I wrote this on Death is Just Around the Corner ep- lots of the financings apparently had covenants requiring the startups to park their cash in SVB, which is why so much of it was over FDIC limits

Here being the guys that fund start up companies in exchange for part ownership(equity) which they later cash out after the IPO(initial public offering, the point at which a private company becomes publicly traded on the stock market and frequently increases wildly but briefly in value and the point at which VCs sell off for profit). They also fuck up poor countries or devastated regions like Puerto Rico, but that's another discussion.
