I will say tho that given TrueAnon's history of going onsite for things like Monarch School ep which was incredible btw and the Ghislaine trial, imho it was to a small degree plausible Brace really was onsite which is also what made the whole thing so hilarious but also if only for a brief moment kinda believable...and then of course pretty easy to figure out it clearly wasn't. Great stuff as always!

And there's no way to tell which is the copy. Iirc they're even chipped exactly the same way. Which one is real, and does it matter? Is the original still valuable? Is it all fake? Good book

Possibly my favorite episode you guys have ever done! I was genuinely cracking up at the beginning and i loved the discussion of F for Fake, an amazing movie. For a work activity once we had to do an icebreaker speech on a topic of our choice. I chose to do mine on Elmyr de Hory and found out during my research that his entire oeuvre was donated posthumously to a college in my home state (Gustavus in St Peter, MN). So i actually got to see a bunch of his work in person.

Didn’t the war of the worlds thing get debunked? Barely anybody was listening to it live per the ratings that night. Like 2%. Furthermore I think it was like zero percent of the people surveyed said they ever listened to “the news” or “a news bulletin”. Everybody was busy listening to a ventriloquist (which idfk how that works on radio but I’m not living in the 1930s). Also there’s like no hard evidence about millions of people running into the streets or calling the police at all. It was a story cooked up about the story later on by newspapers eager to make radio listeners seem credulous and stupid. The irony of Brace and Liz falling for the fake story about people falling for a fake story while doing a victory about their fake story should not be lost on any of us, which is why I was compelled to deboonk.

Orson Welles already had a rocky relationship with print media. Citizen Kane would be a more apt movie to talk about as tie into to the World of the Worlds saga.
