We sit down with Dr. Norman Finkelstein to hear his thoughts on Hamas’s attack on Israel and the devastation of Gaza. We listen as he takes a look back at his life’s work, tries to make sense of the world’s cowardice in the face of unspeakable violence, and offers some thoughts on what might come next.

More like Stinkelstein. Brace you appeared in my dream last night. You were being too charismatic in a restaurant and you made my mom laugh too hard so I told you to back off. Leave her alone.

Tim O'

It's 136 minutes long 😳 king decided to go off, huh

the empty suit

So stoked to hear an interview with Norm again!

Kati Ketz

🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

Francis Mahlie

Without a listen, this is a great gift this morning. Thanks!

McMiller

Damn they redid this shit into an app to stop me from downloading the mp3 huh

SoldierBlue

Two hours on Katie Halper, another two hours here, let’s go!

SWIM

Get 'em Norm. Down with the Israeli death machine. Palestine libre!

Ian H

Paul Robeson also got his law degree *while playing in the NFL*, then quit law and football and promptly became one of the biggest acting and singing stars in the country, as a Black man in the thirties whose father was born in slavery. Absolutely astonishing guy.

sandragl

It is so sad that Norm believes nobody knows who Paul Robeson is anymore. At Camp Kinderland, our dining hall is named for Pete Seeger and our theater is named for Paul Robeson. Every year 100s of children learn who these two are. Kinderland was at the Bay Ridge Palestine protest on Saturday. We see the connections where Norm does. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Matt Pierce

Truly one of the greatest to ever do it

danica pantic

I hope y’all talk to him about his kooked out anti-trans book he’s written at some point 🙃

Demented Avenger

Yesterday, I was briefly at the Gaza protest at Loring Park in Minneapolis and was astonished at how much hope everyone there had. And how much of a tongue-twister the chants were.

Julie D

Which part am I supposed to disagree with because this interview is 10/10 as usual

Ian H

The description of the mindset that the Qassam fighters must have had around the 1:18 mark is quite moving and plausible, but while it's certainly true that they committed some killings of civilians on the 7th, there's also emerging evidence that the IDF was responsible for a significant number of Israeli civilian deaths. Mondoweiss has a good piece from yesterday summarizing various reports of both "friendly fire" incidents and possibly intentional Hannibal Doctrine killings of Israelis by their own security forces. https://mondoweiss.net/2023/10/a-growing-number-of-reports-indicate-israeli-forces-responsible-for-israeli-civilian-and-military-deaths-following-october-7-attack/

Tryg

Thanks to you, Jimmy Dore and Katie Halper for talking with Professor Finklestein regarding this recent series of events. You continue to produce really interesting interviews and insight. Happy to be a subscriber.

M S

Which abolitionist is Norm talking about around the 58 minute mark? I don’t think he ever actually names him.

Mx_EddyNikko

How can one not condemn hamas and also the Israeli response!? This is part of the reason why he is not invited to speak more. Duh

Mx_EddyNikko

Dore is a sell out right wing shit grifter just saying, he's the bottom of the barrel imo

K H

We absolutely need to online bully Israeli pilots and drone operators.

nadia

And this whole time I’d been thinking about how much I love his voice

Jack Ross

Damn I felt this one

Mx_EddyNikko

Sweet summer children enjoy your youth and keep educating yourselves. I'm leaving this thread. Great episode!

olly

this is so wonderful

The Children of Jack Acid

His Pete Seeger timeline doesn't exactly make sense: the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and Johnny Cash show weren't until 1967 until 1969 respectively, so Pete Seeger couldn't have been banned from TV until they came along, if his Rainbow Quest show was in 1965. In fact it was Pete Seeger who hosted Johnny Cash on that show FIRST. But hey, at least Norm's into good music! Most activists I know listen to Rage Against the Machine and Phish.

ploob!

I'm not in the socials but big up to the good doctor for being the first I've seen to explicitly state Palestinians are being exterminated by the state of Israel. 🙌

NewTooshFatoosh

Any way you can make this one free on iTunes? I wanna send it to my boomer parents who are propagandized to oblivion. Finklestein may be able to break the spell, if only just a tiny bit.

Phenomenal

Sam

You guys should have him back on in a few months to discuss identity politics and cancel culture ;-)

K H

Norman said something I have realized is common among leftists and left "learners" especially. He said he was often unsure of the appropriate moral position, but he felt strong in his logical arguments. He has spent his life collecting all this information meticulously. His lifes work echos the greatest flaw of the left and would be leftists. The information is often collected as though it can be presented to those perpetuating atrocity so they repent, but the reality is it is collected to convince ourselves and those around us we are right to act, which is the real challenge or every avenue becomes unwarranted and nothing is done so it gets worse. This is testament that the cost of submission is oblivion. Police train with Israel for a reason.

Luke Tervola

I’ve listened to almost all of Norman’s interviews and appearances that have been available on the web over the last 20 years, and your conversations with him are the best I’ve ever heard. He moves me every time. Thank you so much.

Anon Ibid

I love listening to his voice. So soothing.

Seth Morton

I’m so struck by his care and attention to detail. The stakes are so sharply drawn for him. This was the best interview I’ve heard of his. Great job.

CJ

I learned who Paul Robeson was from that one World Inferno Friendship Society song. Weird phase of my life. Anyway, great interview. Rough, very rough but I think it needs to be rough.

BB

Gah, this is so so good. Thanks guys. And YC, you really outdid yourself this time.

caleb haynes

His book Holocaust Industry is also such an instrumental read. Love hearing him talk (and Liz reading :)

this was incredible, a most sincere thank you

triplevalaska

2 hrs of an old man rambling on about being an expert calling Bernie out. I just can't conjure enough sympathy for this to be a divining issue on people. Maybe it's east coast thing?

xannie mae

I'm happy you guys could bring Finklestein's life's work back into the spotlight. I understand why a lot of people, skewing younger, don't feel the need to engage with a cantankerous old Jew whose most recent headline grabs are for being "anti-woke" and doing outreach work to young podcasters in the Jewish community: the self-evidence of the inhumanity of the so-called state of Israel, and the moral bankruptcy and two-facedness of "progressive" leaders in the west is so naked, why read a book about it from someone who carries so much baggage? But just as even Norman would admit there are some positions that should be academically disqualifying (like those held by his long time nemesis Dershowitz), I would ask my fellow 20-somethings to analyze works based on their argumentive rigor and scholarship, their resonance with your own internal logic and not their degree of alignment to what you presuppose a reliable source's politics should be.

John Halle

Great discussion. Pretty ovw

blazed uncle

It’s funny what Norman Finkelstein says about getting rid of books. Recently in Brooklyn the estate of a guy from the band Television who died was selling off his book collection. I went and there was a massive line and my gf and I noted at least two guys who looked like Brace.

Simon Cook

Amazing interview. Thank you so much for doing this. It brought me to tears.

Smalls

May Palestine one day be free and may Dr. Finkelstein one day have peace

Thomas Ceparano

I will take any books people are trying to get rid of !!

Olivia Chalkley

I cried like 10 separate times while listening to this

CleverName

From the river to the sea :)

Bryan Coffelt

really hope you guys make this one public. there are so many people who need to hear this.

Danny

This had me in tears multiple times. Thank you guys so much. I hope this is released in the regular feed soon, people need this longer historical perspective and to hear his unwavering moral clarity, if not to convince the unconvinced than to remind the people who care that they are neither crazy nor alone.

Nic Bodiford

I totally understand why this one is paywalled but if you all are willing to release for free, I’ll share it with everyone that I can. People need to hear this. I really appreciate the way you all handled this interview. It’s perfect.

Robert

There’s a lot I want to say, but since I’ve been permanently banned from everything but YouTube and Patreon, I’ll just keep it to myself. USA USA USA!

Kelson

Thank you guys. Am I a jackass for finishing the episode in tears? Honestly I have been crying by myself more than I should probably admit about what is occurring. I am so appreciative of this podcast.

Yuriko Xolotl

From the river to the sea, Palestine WILL be free 🇵🇸

cori

really good episode. definitely not crying

Zach Young

Y’all are the only one’s allowed to interview Dr Finkelstein from here on out

krumping4

I was taught Nat Turner's rebels killed white men, women, and children *of the planter class* and spared poor whites. it's a whole different story depending on whether it was an attempted class war or race war.

Sean Curtis

On the note of the Al-Ahli hospital bombing, there has obviously been a lack of interest on the most part, and one aspect of the strike I haven't seen reported/investigated is the extent to which the site of the explosion corresponded with the publicly-available coordinates of the hospital itself. Setting aside how a malfunctioning rocket could land dead-centre, cleanly in the courtyard of the hospital itself, if that courtyard was the publicly-listed pin location for maps, then it would be another very compelling piece of evidence pointing towards a targeted attack. Precision munitions seem to be as good as +/- 5m variance, and military targeting can often just default to Google Maps for their coords. Have I completely missed discussions of this? I tried to verify this myself, but my tin foil hat wasn't enough to get me over the line.

James H

Norman Finkelstein is a national treasure and should be protected at all costs!!

Andrew Irwin

Third cum town reference, thank you brace

Alexander Johnson

Delightful insights from Dr. Finkelstein as always. His absolute sentimentality and empathy for the people of Palestine is unmatched. On a lower-brow note, I strongly hope that during the production of The Adam Friedland Show he was able to see Nick's amazing impression of him.

Methew

This is a congressional archive level episode

Felix

I could listen to Norm talk for hours, would have loved to have him as a professor. So grateful TA interviewed him during a time when his expertise and sympathy for the Palestinian cause are desperately needed. From the river to the sea.

dominic

Please please consider making this episode public soon. There are too many people I want to send this to for me to send my Patreon login to all of them. Not sure if my parents could figure out how to get into Patreon anyways

Lilly Merrill

Please make this public! Liz’s intro made me expect something controversial, but the Dr. is reasonable and careful, people should hear it.

aarinsanity

Chills over the Nat Turner slave rebellion analogy.

The Fine Art Revolution

Liz, can I ask, what part were you worried listeners wouldn't agree with? I thought he was very fair and accurate imo

Marcus

Being invited into Dr. Finkelstein's home to hang out is the most impressive thing this or any other podcast has accomplished.

Chris

my two heroes were mentioned! Rosa Luxemburg and Adam Friedland

Christian Martinez

This definitely was a beautiful and somber discussion with Norman. That ending about the hospital named after his parents, got me crying a bit...

Norbur

I grow Paul Robeson tomatoes every year because he's my hero.

Spencer McKee

beautiful, moving, horribly sad. Thank you

j

Incredible, thank you.

A.S.

What else can you say other than how truly amazing and inspiring Norman is with his life’s work and humanistic approach. Also, shout out to Liz — in Norman’s words, she’s “asking the right questions and saying the right comments” 💯

Nicholas Stropko

long time listener, first time commenter. please consider making this public! the incredible degree of misinformation in mainstream news sources has even made me doubt myself regarding the conflict. dr. finkelstein speaks so cogently and persuasively about the morality and history of the gazan struggle. even in a condensed form, i think this episode could really prove an invaluable resource for people without the means to get past the rampant misinformation presented by most news outlets. whatever you decide to do, incredible episode, thank you so much for making it <3

❤️💔❤️

eli pine

cried like a baby at the end of this episode. such a deeply moving conversation - thank you all.

Dylan Hensley

Please unlock this episode. It was very moving.

Joedie Sawyer

Please unlock this, Norman asked Katie Halper to make his interview with her free, so that one has no paywall. Everyone needs to hear these interviews.

Scott Laugenour

I started my subscription to TrueAnon after hearing your first interview series with Norman Finkelstein. Kudos continue. Thank you.

Kryn Benski

Paywalling one of the more censored activists is a good bit

Shiv

it’s already been said: moving, hard, beautiful—great work from you 3. but hearing Norman say, ”…let’s be for real” was also such a TA Classico moment

Alma

God, his moral and intellectual courage is so rare and precious. It was honestly deeply moving to hear Norman talk about the revolutionaries he looks up to and devastating to hear the total hopelessness with regards to Palestine. Hope you unlock this episode soon because in the mean time I'm just gonna be downloading it and sending it to my broke ass friends.

Martin

Clarifying and sobering episode yall. Fine work, needs to be heard widely.

Preetholt

This episode is fantastic. Please make it public so I can share it with people. It's too important to be behind a paywall.

Whiskeyjack

You guys deserve to be paid for your good work, but would you consider unlocking this sooner rather than later? This interview is important. It has influenced me in a way that is immediately apparent. People need to hear this.

Antipaganda

This isn't long enough. What a mind. And yes, I second the calls for this to be public sooner rather than later, if you can financially withstand it.

Fitz Weiss

His jimmy dore appearance was very good as well.

Fitz Weiss

It's funny he's worried about his moral weight - he couldn't weigh more if he was made out of neutron star.

danny

norm’s creme de la creme is obviously his stuff on palestine. cant say how refreshing this interview was. back to form

Graham Sparrow

So well done. Thank you. And thank you Norman for a life’s work of exposing the truth behind Apartheid Isreal.

syd

Here's my comment also asking for this to be unlocked

Henry

Yes please unlock 💕

Ingo

Cried like a little bitch a the end , thank you very much.

The Dee's Knees

Thank yooou, I listen to a lot of things for politics but I come back to TrueAnon for the human element & this is exactly why ❤ I've been YouTube binging talks by Ilan Pappé the past week too, he's so good on the history of Israel I highly recommend it for everyone

Antipaganda

YC, amazing editing and music/curation, even better than usual.

Monetcache

Truly a beautiful episode such a human and normal way of looking at the situation abroad. Really appreciate u guys going out and talking to Dr Finklestein. You should unlock this eppi for everyone. Much love

Marco von Ballmoos

Amazing episode. Just incredible. It should be spread far and wide, preserved for posterity. This is by far my favorite podcast, but this one just clicked on all levels. Excellent production, wonderful tone. That you went to his apartment, amongst his stuff, that he started with far-reaching social context, talking about Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash, Paul Robeson, all of it lifted this show above all of the other interviews I've heard with him (Hedges, Dore, Halper/Maté). Thanks so much.

Kai

This was incredible. Truly the nuance and care I've been looking for in the discussions of this issue.

A.S.

“If Israel has a right to defend itself, shouldn’t Palestinians have the right to live?”

Jan Michalik

"Ah. So there goes that. I figured that was gonna happen." :(

Matelda

I listened to this three times

Thank you for allowing him, and you all for how powerfully you navigated and delivered the context of his message. The entire episode still couldn’t prepare me for the end. I cried like no piece of media has made me before.

It's hard to put into words what this episode did to me emotionally but I would like to try. Overshadowing everything of course is the slaughter of people which by default are considered less than human. However something that affected me very personally was what seemed to be a deep sadness in Norms words. Maybe Im projecting here, but it reminds me of my father. He's 75 and has been politically active in germany with socialist, anti imperialist, environmentalist etc. views for almost 60 years now. Witnessing everything from the war on vietnam, the lies about WMDs to the insane warmongering against russia and the mainstream media seemingly always forgetting everything that was said and done yesterday and starting the next news cycle as if it were day one. I fear he will die knowing it hasn't gotten better in all these years. I fear he will never see justice brought to those he stood up against all his life. Thinking about this brings me to tears in the same way that listening to Norm talk does. I can't express the gratitude to you for making this podcast. I started listening from the first episode only a few months ago and after I got to the interview with Maria Palmer and then listening to the "the game" series I instantly subscribed. 5$ a month plus my sanity is definitely worth it. Tip for other new listeners: several episodes a day over a longer period of time is a great exercise for psychological resilience!

fly jabroni

amazing conversation. everyone should hear this. please unlock it.

Brian

I think this is the greatest interview I’ve heard in my entire fucking life. I truly can’t think of a better one. This is final-form Norm; the rage, passion, conviction, the unassailable integrity of this man has brought me to tears. His work is in a class of its own, and will continue to provide us with the moral clarity and intellectual fortitude to combat this barbarous occupation for as long as it continues.

Reece Coren

love norm. great interview

Jakupe

What an amazing and powerful interview. Thank you.

james

“Yung” Chomsky is 38!!!

Karamanapath

Amazing episode. Dr. Finklestein's moral clarity is exhilarating as always.

One of the best episodes ever. Thanks TA.

Joshua Davidson

You have to make this one free. Everyone needs to hear this. Great job!

Peter Annee

Y’all bring the best out of Norm of any podcast that interviews him. This interview is so full of warmth that it makes learning about these horrors bearable.

I took notes. I cried. I laughed. I learned about indexing books. So much gold here. Great work, thanks a million. This is big

The last 10 minutes had me in tears. Please unlock this episode for the broader community it is SO important for people to hear

Norman is voicing the things that Im afraid to even think for fear of committing thought crimes

Pikachu

This is maybe the best TA episode to date. Only this crew could have created something like this.

Charles Frum

🔓 this as a public service!

Liam Farley

Was it Liz or YC norm thought was 23

sophie aanerud

You got to make this available for everyone. It's too important

Joshua

Very moving interview. Thank you

Char Kelly

Thank you for continuing to bring Dr. Finkelstein onto TA! Really appreciate making this episode public, I shared it with anti-Zionist friends who have talked about feeling of isolated and alienation in this moment. He’s definitely not on patreon but thank you for all of your work Norman! 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

Arielle Curtin

Take the D Train to Coney Island/Brighton Beach. Go to the Aquarium. Eat a Knish. Think about being Jewish in Norm’s NYC.

A.S.

Norman has a gift being that he has the type of voice that has me listening to this episode 3 times

PatchIsRed

I was not emotionally prepared for that ending.

Lea Jaffe

brought me to tears imagining the world we’d have if everyone had half his humanity. thank you for everything norman

Luke F

I like when he compared Vladimir Putin to Nat Turner

Michael Kuhn

This is excellent. Thank you.

Cool Body 420

Thank you for dedicating your episodes to this unthinkable tragedy - and for unlocking them for non subscribers. The voices of Jewish comrades are some of the few moments of hope in this nightmare of sorrows. Love and solidarity

HR Meadors

This one finally made me a subscriber.

Matt Pierce

Thank y'all so much for unlocking this. So, so vital a corrective to the bloodthirsty frenzy in the imperial court press. Was in tears again today at dinner w my fiancee just trying to even explain to her how moving it was lol. Will be sharing as far and wide as I can.

Nick

I hope Norm can feel deeply that his life work has not been in vain

Maya G

Love Norm & love you guys.

Anthony Reiner

Great episode. Admire Norman's moral courage and unstinting desire to know the truth.

David

"Zoomers are people born during Zoom?" 😆 love Norm

Joshua P. Kelly

thank you for letting norm really have the floor. the episode was heartbreaking but I found a lot of solace in it. as someone else above said, i hope norm knows his life’s work hasn’t been in vain. he’s helped so many contextualizs what is truly happening in Palestine and to the Palestinian people. ❤️ appreciate it being unlocked - it’s too important. one of my best friends who is Palestinian is going to listen to it with her mom, who isn’t, to help contextualize - her mom is a professor and my friend is hopeful this might break thru or at least help start the process ❤️

Cait Reynolds

I’d love to know the piano piece that is played throughout the episode

Claire Simon

Love you guys, love Norm, love fifth member of Led Zeppelin Sandy Denny

janedoe8265

What episode of rainbow quest is the last song from?

Casualmort

My favorite and most emotionally captivating episode thus far.

anna

really the most profound trueanon episode. i’ve listened to it 3 times over

Tom Clarke

This is one of the best TrueAnon episodes ever. It's profound and emotional and very funny and so, so sad. Thank you.

EaZy E

I could listen to Norm talk all day. Luckily, my man's always up to the task. Lol

Nick

I would love a source for that DuBois / Nat Turner point so that I can discuss it with others

Kevin

I know it's against the "rules of podcasting" but the ambient sounds of the rain, the street and the phone magnified the intimacy and gravity of the discussion.

Baron

Thank y’all for putting in the effort to put this together, Norman will never know how immense his impact on American anti-Zionism truly is.

mrez

Great episode! What was the book being referenced throughout?

linda jean

i love him so much ❤️ thank you for having him again

bator

I don’t know why but this conversation just brought me to tears. I was so tired and avoided the news; Muslim though i may be i didnt feel the despair with Iraq or Libya or Afghanistan. this just broke me at a more fundamental level

Luma

Norms somber rage and reflection in this episode truly brought tears. Finally commenting after a few listens. Think it’s rare to see an interview with Dr. Finkelstein where he does not have to spend the first 35 minutes refuting and laying ground work so he may actually be listened to - darkly chuckled at his comments about re reading his work and “getting the facts completely right” for this reason. Courageous & honest, as usual. The level of person-ability in the interview really makes this ep one for the ages guys - thanks. 🇵🇸

Rufina

slightly related/unrelated but can someone explain to me why norm was/is against BDS? not sure where to find info about this

Mexican Stalin

You can hear his voice reignite with rage throughout the episode amazing

B R

had to take a few breaks between listening to get through this due to the subject matter but i can tell i’ll listen to it again. the judy collins (i assume?) cover at the end really made me choke up. ❤️

2026-09-09 19:00 Hi! Thank you this is amazing! I have a question - does anyone have a leads on which abolitionists/what texts he's talking about when describing them not condemning Nat Turner - saying what happened was horrible but not condemning them..?

Every now and then you guys drop an episode and I’m reminded that while you’re funny, and entertaining; you’re doing really important work. George Gallowgay

This episode is so good, I hope whoever wrote the episode about how Noam Chomsky is a pedophile listened.

Zachary Manenti

don’t watch the hill bc its still corporate tho tolerates some alt opinions, rather watch ‘breaking points’ with Krystal Ball ( and Saagar)… still Krystal, who is the only intelligent and ethical lefty on social media IMO, HAS to say Hamas unspeakable acts and so on to stay on air, BUT that show is the only one that comes close to saying/ reporting what israel is actual up to and doing. Still the amerikan independent media ‘existentially’ dependent as it remains on likes and dislikes is limited in its real analysis.

Ben

Bit teary eyed listening to this one again. Norm is such a treasure.

Natalie

loved the moment of norm being impressed with Liz

sky

Holy shit this is so good, thank you so much!!!! ♥️♥️♥️

😬

Wow. Thank you. This was an important interview. So glad I began supporting.

Lochlyn

If I could give norm a big hug I would. His work means so unbelievably much to me.

BurlyBob

Oh hell yeah let's go. Norm is the fucking man! Love you dude

Rachel

Oh my god listening to this in August ‘24 and it is still going on. Fucking heart breaking. What a noble person Finkelstein is.. Such dignity & passion. The hospital with a plaque to his parents bombed. Devastating episode . 💔💔💔

.

Y’all’s greatest interview. I come back to this in moments of despair. As somber as it is it’s also incredibly inspiring. Thank you for this.

Ruth Gemison

Such a thoughtful and important episode. Heartbreaking that the injustice has been going on so long.

The first 30 minutes of this feels like art

Two years and one day

Clare

I’ve listened/read to countless hours of information on this genocide since October 7th. Norms words have filled quite a bit of those hours, but this interview feels so uniquely intimate and real and powerful. It’s like I’m listening to my grandpa. I wish I would have listened to this one early on so I could have suggested it to others that were dealing with the conflicting emotions they had about the crimes of October 7th and why it happened.

August Gardener

Coming back to this episode nearly three years later, I can’t help feeling more grief, and fury on behalf of the Palestinians. But also more introspective on the subjects of responsibility and purpose. Thanks to Norm and the TA crew ❤️
