Mo za

😭😭

Now that we are in the grand line. This is where the adventures truly begin. I just caught to the anime Sunday. Man what a journey. You’re gunna love it

Gioele Bianco

With your reactions and the manga going crazy lately I'm eating good with One Piece. And with you at the very beginning and me at the end it's a beautiful parallel. Thank you.

Richafa

There really is no better time to be a One Piece fan than it is now

DiegoTO

I dont care that luffy is doing it for a good purpose, this counts as a triple for the animal abuse list, thats 7 in my books

TriplT

Flexie I'm writing this to warn you beforehand. People have some strong opinions about how Alabasta should be spelled. frankly speaking, when translating from the japanese, 'r' and 'l' are the same so both aRabasta and aLabasta are correct translations. One of the reasons why people don't like it being called 'Arabasta' is because 'Arabasta' would suggest a connection to arabia which would go against the arc being based on ancient egypt. whatever, in the end both are correct, it's just that you can't go wrong with Alabasta whereas some people might have something against you calling it Arabasta.

Silvanus2004

As i mentioned elsewhere,Luffy is a dump as they come. But his emotional Intelligence is off the charts. Also regarding the word "mode", Oda the creator loves to use german words in his manga, like "Marine" which is the german word for navy. (added: so it isnt seemingly as clear, see comments)So "mode" translated is just "fashion". (added: so it isnt seemingly as clear as it was at first for me., see comments), Also the not drinking alcohol thing was added to the Anime due to concerns, later this will be less and less in the anime.

Rocinante

Episode 63 is definitely one of my favorite episodes. The world-building in this episode is insaneee.. The whole thing about Laboon's past, the explanation about the log pose, how Crocus smiled when Luffy said that he wants to be the pirate king, and that tease at the end! What a way to start the new saga!

aaron zambonini

It really heavily leans into both cultures tbh but i cant make comparision because of spoilers but it was also translated for the longest time by oda and fans to be "ala"basta and was changed recently to reflect a more overarching naming scheme into "ara"basta.

Rocinante

I personally count this as a spoiler. I remember it was such a nice surprise when I learned about it the first time. Something that might set Flexie's theorising brain into overdrive when she learned about it. It would be fun to see her react to that hahaha

DiegoTO

Yeah, kinda why I put it by the end for her to decide. I get that we on the west are incredibly biased towards that revelation, I was also shocked, but after knowing from Japanese people that it was not a big deal for them because they always knew, I felt kinda of robbed lol. I decided to delated tho better keeping the West experience

Zarathos Daimaoh

Mode is a french word originally. And Marine is just the term in some countries, like again France.

Gioele Bianco

Another comment, sorry. But I know that can create misunderstandings. The name of the city/kingdom of the Island is not the name of the island. So... Weasky peak is the name of the city, HOWEVER the name of the island is Cactus Island. Be careful as you go on with the series, it's not a big deal, but can be misleading.

DiegoTO

That moment of Zoro and Nami is surely when Zoro's GPS got broken

Traf

Interesting fact about Zoro: he only sleeps around people he trusts.

Silvanus2004

Well, learned something again. There goes my bias, I also googled the history now. modus(latin) -> mode (french) -> Mode (german). i just felt it fits well as mentioned in the wiki: In the German language, "mode" has evolved over time and now includes both clothing and the general trend or style. Well, we european languages share some ancestry after all. Oda seemingly likes to use other languages in his manga. One guy in Buggys crew had a shirt with "Hans Wurst" on it which is a german synonym for a brute. Sanji uses french words in his attacks etc. Learning with one piece , lol.

Zarathos Daimaoh

lol to be fair, he started a career being lost, and didn't know his way either in the forest from Usopp's island. Hell i think the only time he was not confused about directions, was in episode 2

Zarathos Daimaoh

When you look at it, around those episodes, it's the confirmation that a lot of people live within the Grand line. So the whole idea that nobody could survive or come back from it, besides Roger's crew (or Arlong's and a runaway Krieg), was just the assumptions and hearsay from East Blue people. Said East Blue which was clearly called the weakest sea, so likely to send out the most casualties out there. And course there were roadblocks like Smoker on Loguetown, and Whiskey Peak

Ziggy Stardust

**Spoiler Warning** That's not true at all... he literally fell asleep on an enemy pirate ship in Saboady 😅

Icenight

And the LA season 2 coming soon 🔥

Alex P

Alabasta is a play on the word "Alabaster" so that's why i use an "L" instead of an "R"

Icenight

Let's go Flexing Pirates ! Set sail for the Grand Line ! Flex on our enemies ! Zoro about to flex on those bounty hunters lol I can’t 😂

Chop Chop Chopper

The arabian connection doesn’t go against ancient egypt at all. Genetically the egypts shared a gene pool with the arabs and north africans. Egypt was ruled by persia, the ottomans, assyrians, byzanthians etc. for centuries probably a full millennium even. The Alabastia arc has a lot of obvious influences from and references to Arabian culture. I don’t care how you spell or pronounce Alabastia but please don’t give falls information about history to content creators that surely won’t know any better nor check what you wrote or will write here.

deranged but not really

Even if I'm rewatching one piece and know exactly what's to come.. It's cruel not watching the next episode and releasing it flexi 😭😂😂 Also, Zoro's my goat 🔥🔥

Kcosta

Great episodes, welcome to the grand line! Great reaction and you’re definitely starting to understand the characters themselves which is why the romance dawn saga is completed perfectly Props to Oda for writing such a chaotic story and still leading us to guess what’s coming up 🤣

Cameron

Keep some of these characters pinned in the back of your mind. Oda likes to introduce unassuming characters that turn out to have history or ties with the larger storylines. Not all, but some definitely circle back around later

charlie

Always love your discussions!

I think the Laboon thing showcases one of things I love most about Luffy, which is that he might not necessarily bethat intelligent in terms of common sense, but he's kind of a genius in terms of creative and emotional intelligence, so he's super good at quickly coming up with crazy slapdash solutions that seem to work and at giving people the emotional support they need.

PG Modehouse

Something rather interesting about Luffy's characterization in the manga is that he rarely, if EVER, has thought bubbles. He's a straight shooter and always says what he's thinking or feeling out loud, even if he's alone. This trait is carried over in the anime, where we never hear reverb thought audio like we do for other characters. Luffy is like a force of nature, something/someone that happens to the other characters.

Kate

we love a Mihawk reference! Any time I think of him and his sassy little boat my day gets better

Tabo51

I mentioned this in an earlier reaction, but Luffy first set sail on his adventure on February 7. According to the One Piece data book, the birthday of the Snowman that Luffy built is February 18 so we know that, canonically, Luffy is only 11 days into his journey. I also love that the Snow Queen that Usopp made resembles Kaya. Speaking of Usopp, did you notice that he was the one that still held out hope that Laboon's nakama might still be out there? It's very reminiscent of him back in Syrup village crying out "The pirates are coming!" for years even after the death of his mother.

Tomas

It says it's uncut, but it's real clear at 17:33 there's a textbook don't let the tears drop expression.

FlexiejayAnime

Bruh you know if i'm gonna cry or scream I'll show it hahah

FlexiejayAnime

GUYS!! I can't believe I did this lol But how episode 64 ended had me so excited and I had so much to say that I FORGOT TO WATCH THE NEW ED LOL I will react to it Thursday with the next episodes.

Ziggy Stardust

It's such a small detail but one of my favorite parts of this series is that the characters start to, with increasing frequency, routinely change outfits as time goes on. It starts mostly with Nami, but now it's legit every character, every arc, even multiple times per arc. One Piece is like a full on fashion show now and people get excited in anticipation of the next new looks. Yet another reason it differs itself and really stands out from the rest.

Christopher Velasquez

This is such a fun journey! To think this is only the beginning! Zoro is my favorite man!

overgroll

Hey Flexie, i was wondering if you are planning to react to the one piece liveaction on Netflix :>

Ben

I don't think Laboon is literally the largest whale, but he's part of the largest whale species also don craig always has me laughing, its pronounced kreeg haha

KevinsLunchbox

my favorite bits of One Piece are moments like Luffy and Usopp playing in the snow. Moments that serve no plot relevance, but are fun on their own. I've come to love those moments for all of the crew as I saw them. Sure, plot and action are always cool, but small friendly bonding moments with crew members are always my favorite, especially moments between 2 characters we haven't yet seen. Theyre the best

KevinsLunchbox

58:56 DUDE. NO WAY. I forgot so much about Whiskey Peak! Oh man! I'm so glad to be rewatching this.

Ace The FireDragon

Flexie, whatever crazy island ideas you have in your head there is a 90% chance that it's probably true

Ace The FireDragon

It's funny when you think Luffy's original plan was to go to the Grand Line with just him and Zoro and his little dingy boat xD

Morgan Hellström

The reason Zoro sleeps most days is because he is trusted to stay watch during the night. And this is a reason for it

Gabriel Ramos

20:20, I call it emotional intelligence. He knows that merely saying it won’t help. Laabon needs to see how strong he is in order to believe he will come back. And you only can arive in luffy answer, if you trully can put yourself in laboon "shoes". We can go back to nami arc, the right thing to do is to help her, but he knows is more important to nami if he waits for when she ask for help. He would stay days waiting if was the case.

Dominik

One Piece liveaction on Netflix is not worth the reaction, better focus on other things.

DietPop

Zoro smiles = bad news.. Luffy stops smiling = even worse news :D

Alex Hencher

He also couldn't tell East from West at sunrise. There's a reason Nami was "technically" the 3rd crew mate they picked up. Neither Luffy or Zoro can sail worth a damn.

UltimateToa

You will come to understand that above all else, Luffy's emotional intelligence is S+ tier

Noah B

Lil clarification, he wasn't saying laboon specifically was the largest whale in the world, but his species. And his species of whale comes from the North Blue. Hope that cleared that up <3

Sascha

Luffy has the most "emotional intelligence" of any shonen protag imo. He just knows what people/animals rly need or want in almost all situations. This is whats makes him rather unique for a shonen protagonist considering they are often stupid as a brick (same for this one) :P

Sascha

"Gravity Island,...I dont know if thats a too insane theory but i just should keep rolling" ... yeah 20x the insanity part and try again

Abdullah Ragnama

Don’s ship crew was actually attacked by Mihawk, that’s why he followed them to Sanji’s restaurant. They hint at it indirectly in the anime

Ilsuk Yang

Luffy's emotional intelligence on display with Laboon here. Zoro vs 100 bounty hunters begins :)

Nagi

late to the party, but wtf this is a real good comment. I thought i am a one piece freak, but god damn. thanks for the side facts!

Tabo51

Thanks. I try to comment on the things less noticed, but I can't take full credit as I follow a lot of One Piece super fans that enlighten me with this stuff. I'd say maybe a third of the stuff I write is genuinely from my own observation. I appreciate the recognition!
