Best recap episode in anime!

Lazy_Gamer

Yasss been waiting on this. Gave me time to rewatch the series from last time in dub.

Wyatt Fields

Hohenheim finally deciding to fight.

Leandro Santos Matos

I love this ending. Especially when it shows her talking on the phone. So adorable

Ori Kira

This is such a good episode i can't believe some reactors skip it, One of the few anime recap episodes that are done right. it is so much more then a recap, worth rewatching later on, one of my favorite episodes.

Jeffery Sit

anyone have problem in 13:22 - 13:51 as well? The anime freeze but Flexie and sound are normal

Ben

This episode is one of my favorites but man it's hard to talk about without spoiling upcoming stuff. Once again we see hoenhime hiding his eyes behind his glasses but when his twin arrives they aren't wearing glasses showing this version has no filter and nothing to hide behind. We could take it as his negative inner self talk with Trisha and pinkao being his better angels. But as the negative self pulls the pinkao mask off him I always took that to mean it was a weak argument she was making and he was just hiding behind that justification. Trisha, if we are still using the argument metaphor, starts small wanting his attention but he shooes her away, it's only after the pinkao argument fails does she return but how as a teen and the only one there making him fully have to consider her. Then she becomes her adult self as her argument reaches it's conclusion and we see not only her but everyone he knew standing beside her. Some anime episodes hit different and I adore this episode.

Rannos Twentytwo

When I heard this was a recap episode I was kinda disappointed but MAN that was good. It was like a episode long trailer or AMV or something

IAMONE

Love everytime FMAB reaction on Flexie channel pops up. Ive been watching other channels in dub and I hate to admit but I really do miss the sub.

FlexiejayAnime

Ah! I will fix that later today and reupload the file thank you!

Jeffery Sit

No worries! Take your time! Thank you for reacting my favourite anime😁.

Just some guy

I remember my cousin saying this OP sounded like a Dave Matthews Band song and that’s all I can think whenever I hear it now

Karatsuki

And so we arrive at the Interlude The recap is built so well tying into Hohenheim dream especially the part where Pinako tells him humans will never give up trying and then showing us everytime that has come true in the show The only issue I have with this is the fact that they make it just painfully obvious Hohenheim is not on the side of the homoculus with him saying he "can't do anything to stop their plan" and that "fighting against them is useless" The more I think about this I think this would be so perfect to have AFTER we finally meet the 'Father' in the show

Giulia Beonio

The interesting things about this recap episode is that all the new scenes are anime only, honestly on a rewatch I always find it very enjoyable, we basically rewatch all the best moments with a banger soundtrack and montage, I do however have some qualms about it narratively… but I guess we’ll see in the future, I’m happy you enjoyed it so

Sindri

Not gonna say too much but this show is actually really re-watchable. There are certain things you can only really notice on a rewatch. There are so many little bread crumbs that are settting things up for the future and you usually don't notice them all on your first watch. It's satisfying to watch it while having the answers. That being said. Nothing beats the first time of course.

MK

Another phenomenal episode! The interplay between all the old clips and Hohenheim's dream is so expertly done. One of my favorites is when he's saying humans don't stand a chance against the homonculi. He specifically names Greed and Lust's abilities, but then we're shown that Ed and Mustang have already overcome both through their wits and determination. It really gives credence to Pinako and Tricia's words. We won't stop fighting, and we'll be stronger because of the hardship we've endured.

Karatsuki

It truly is constructed so well with the new scenes

madzhatter12

I couldn't rewatch full metal either. But watching with flexie the dark moments are enjoyable. Minus the daughter dog chimera episode, no thanks ill skip. I refuse to watch that ever again.

Marvin Varnhorn

Can we please get a compilation of all op and ed first reactions at the end of the series😁?

Djoebie

Loved this recap episode, more insight into Van Hohenheim.

FlexiejayAnime

I'll be making a video like that for Youtube but I've already posted my first two reactions in the collection :)

Gustav

Agree! If you do any recap episodes this is definitely the way to do it. Especially for a show like this with so much information thrown at you, its a great refresher with some added context to Hohenheims character

Vincent Huang

This is the most epic recap episode! And as I watched with you this time, I even thought, “Could this be counted as the very first video essay?” (How funny a video essay made by an anime production company itself). Most importantly, I always tear up (even this time) when Trisha conclude this episode with such insights. I really love the messages conveyed. It’s so humane, so precious. Glad that I can rewatch this episode with you.

Sam

Wow I'm actually blown away by how spot on your analysis was for the recap. Sure, it's a recap episode but it is a master class in how to do recaps while sprinkling in a little "new" content. Every little detail of this episode was carefully selected. My favorite is the lyrics of the OST "hold my hand and together we'll make stardust" playing in the background of the scene where Hohenheim and Trisha are literally holding hands. It's just flawless, and I'm so glad you enjoy it and see it for what it is like I do. I can't stand when I see comments telling reactors to skip it.

Gpinko

"I dont know if i could rewatch this show its too much trauma" ....then there's me, restarting the show immediately after i finished it the first time 🤣😅 it is so rewatchable, its very dark and traumatic but I guess i love those parts about it too. I don't know how some people skip this episode, it's really more of Hoehnheim's introspective thoughts and feelings that accumulate in the form of a recap, but it's more than JUST a recap episode. You finally get to see more about his character. Like if you just dissect the dialogue being spoken the entire time, that Pinako was basically Hoehnheim talking to himself, just like the double version also was part of himself. Like an angel and devil on your shoulder. It's very fascinating thinking of all the things he was conflicted with. And the little girl in the start was indeed Trisha too, phases of her growing up more and more into the wife he remembered her as. That last scene always kills me with everyone, and the ED music. It really is a great episode. Makes you think about things as you head into the next one.

Patrick Jocel Sarabia

this recap episode ain't just a recap but it will also suppliment more information as to who is Father in the next episode. it'll give more revelations so just look forward to it and I just can't wait for you to see it. 👍🏼

DGThunderer

I've never known an episode to give so much recap while also advancing the story so well.

NovaVortex

I love how this episode compartmentalizes all of what we know so far, brings scenes about the same topic together to help digest it all, and questions the viewer about what they think they understand. The OST just dropped in the background to accentuate the right moments and hitting the right emotions is just pure PEAK CINEMA.

Pod Rider

It's interesting a lot of people liked this recap episode. I don't like pretty much 99% of recap episodes. Only good recap episode is Avatar Ember Island Players 😁 it would've been nice to have this episode solely dedicated to Hohenheim. Unfortunately there are important details in this episode, just have to go through the slog of recapping as I found it quite disjointed. Just my preference though.

Pod Rider

Is it really a mater class? It just feels like another recap episode to me, but the only important part is Hohenheim. The episode is talking as if he was in all the previous episodes, but he wasn't. It would've been nice to have it solely focused on Hohenheim. It's unfortunate that we have to watch this to get notes on him when it's been filled in with things we've seen already.

Pod Rider

No it isn't. The best recap episodes ever are from some examples : Frieren, Attack on Titan, and definitely the best one is Avatar the Last Air Bender Ember Island Players. This is just another recap episode like any other, wish it was solely focused on Hohenheim

James B

I thought I was a huge Frieren fan but I can't for the life of me recall a Frieren recap episode.

Nate

Not only should you rewatch it, and you'll understand why eventually (I hope), but when you do, please watch it with the openings and in English (I know but this is not just dub stanning). I think you'll get a greater depth and freshness from the variance in translation, the premiere voice acting and watching with the OPs. Should feel nearly completely new except for knowing where the plot is going imo. And though I highly recommend the dub, I must say, I appreciate the VA's in the sub more than I remembered - I think my real issue is with the English subtitles' translation. So much is lost compared to how it's written for the English VA's BUT the sub's VA's are indeed top notch too.

Frieren didn't have a recap episode, and this definitely beats AoT. Ember Island Players is great, but this episode definitely stands out compared to all the rest.

Nate

I agree about Ember Island recap being best but I don't think this one is just average. It sews together a recap with a few more answers AND questions while maintaining the tension, if not increasing it at the perfect time in the story. A generic recap is just a clip show - this had clips to elevate the points that were fighting within Hohenheim. Though it does cheat normal logic by showing clips that Hohenheim wasn't aware of or there for, that just means it's a battle in his psyche that uses dramatic irony to elucidate the points using the audiences knowledge.

Neil Gossell

Agreed… this show and the original Evangelion did the recap episode well

Sakamoto Plays

I really want to you to revisit“Would I rewatch this” in 37 eps 😂

Sakamoto Plays

Agreed about the translations. The Anime does a straight Script translation for the subtitles for Japanese, whereas the English team (with the greater companies blessing) really reinterpolated the scripts for English SO WELL - then on top of that the VAs are iconic. I think the show is about 30% less confusing in english for people who don’t read straight translated Japanese literature.

Buzzard

Great episode, great reaction! 👍

Pcdruid

It is a really good episode. I had actually forgotten how well they did it.

BoyBovine

You really spiraled this episode. It’s interesting to hear what you’re thinking.

BigHeadClan

"She has really shrunk!" Flexie says when Pinako is still doesn't even come up to Hoenhime's shoulders when he is sitting down! XD But I understand that feeling of loving an anime but the Trauma it causes means you could only ever watch it once, I feel the same way with Ano Hana and Clannad who's soul purpose in life seems to be to rip out your heart at the end!

Sam

Bro stop replying to every positive comment on this episode. We get it, you don’t like recap videos.

Neo

This! I've rewatched this series several times and I still catch new things every time through.

Illiterate Mochi

The trauma gets a little easier to handle with each rewatch 😅 Or maybe I’m just desensitized at this point

Pod Rider

I have two jokes for this... First one: Exactly, there wasn't any recap episodes :D Second one: The whole season recaps Frieren's adventure with the Hero's Party :D

Pod Rider

I guess it's a different experience binging it, rather than watching it as a weekly episode.

Pod Rider

Don't be so butt hurt bro, we can both express our preferences without insult like adults :D You didn't even cover my what my points were talking about. I did highlight the important parts which is Hohenheim, and the redundant parts which is the recap itself. I don't know why it's a necessary thing in anime, some animes don't do it. I don't know if the context of this recap episode is because there was a mid season break? Anyway, have a good day to you.

Ríon

Gosh- Such a good reaction. I've seen many other reacter skip and bounce between the "recap bits," and thus, kinda "switch off" for this episode? But not only did you treat it like it's own episode so respectfully, but also complemented the editing and brought such life to rewatching it with you. It felt so much more substantial with your commentary and intrigue. Amazing. Yeah, there's a reason why you're the reactor I keep being long term subscribed to, even when I'm only watching one show with you currently (FMAB). Like: i just know if you ever were NOT covering a show i love, that'd just mean me binging another series in order to watch with you. 😚 I just need my weekly Flexie Jay! So good, thank you as always. 😘

47

My joke is that a recap usually consists of scenes the audience has already seen, so Frieren ends up as just a flashback montage.

Cyber

Rezero's recap in season 4 was interesting too lol

Paweł Kapusta

Decades pass, and this show is still the best... timeless quality. If I never watched FMAB in my teens like 20 years ago, I'd swear to God this anime just came out this year, animation, music, va's, direction, production - everything is so good.

Masterprick1

To me, the issue is that this episode along with the first one spoil too much. The episodes themselves are good, but reveal too much too fast. The most annoying thing about the first one is that they could've skipped it and use the episode slot for Yoko's introduction.
