I feel like the Knox moment wasn't really earned.

Bartender

I watched this for the first time when like 11 years ago when I was 13. Now I get to rewatch it with you and realize once again how great this show is.

Ben

Dr. Knox said when we first met him that Roy burnt the corpses and he would do the autopsies on them. Medical examiners in wars often would dissect bodies to study the effects of chemical agents and other weapons used in warfare but in this worlds case they study the effect that alchemy had on the bodies (this is my own interpretation) so its no wonder he retreated from everyone including his family. The scene with them showing up always makes me cry cause the show keeps going out of its way to show that bonds with others can keep us going.

The anime doesn't go into it, but Knox suffered from heavy shell shock after the war. It got to the point where he tried to kill his wife when she tried to wake him up from a nightmare because he mistook her for an enemy soldier. So vital context is left out on how bad the trauma really goes for those who took part in the war. Because of that, Knox and his wife divorced and he moved away from them for their own safety.

Illiterate Mochi

He called Riza his queen, I can’t. 🥹 Also I love Roy and Ed’s relationship. It’s very understated and brother like, but it’s obvious how much they care about each other, despite not saying it out loud.

Russ Tan

It would have been shocking to see, but I kind of do wish they left that in the show. I know there's already plenty of exploration of trauma of the war via other characters, but this one would have been especially visceral because they don't touch upon the effects on civilians as much.

James B

The chess piece scene is one of my favorite moments in the entire show.

DGThunderer

I love this ending. It's not my favorite song, but the animation is so cute. I always love ed or op animations that just show the characters about their everyday lives.

Mohit Kukreja

I absolutely love how Ed looks like he's been growing through every episode! He does not look like a kid anymore; he's maturing, and that's such a nice trope from the mangaka/animation team, showing that time has been passing. Looking forward to watching the series with you. I'm absolutely loving it!

Buzzard

There's another way for Kimblee to retrieve the stone after swallowing it, but it would take a few days. And with those sharp points it could be a real pain in the a**!🤭

Ori Kira

The town Envy mentioned and wanted it destroyed was the one doctor Marco was living in it and helping the people , Envy wants to punish Marco. He is a well written character. All the characters in FMAB are well written , and it will get better and better from here.

That scene with the doctor and his family was more potent and better comunicated in english. The dub translation does jot do the scene justice.

King Shadow

This is just a random idea but I wonder if you plan on watching the original as well? I think it would be interesting to see not to mention I don’t think there has ever been a reaction channel that’s watched both versions

Sakamoto Plays

The art in this episode is really detailed and subtle. Something I’m appreciating more on this rewatch is how much care the team put into backgrounds/extra animations in quieter episodes. Gorgeous work!

Vitor Takaki

Scar really could've given a heads up before destroying Marcoh's face 😅

Gray Matters

Kinda offended you commented on Kimblee in a suit but not Grandpa Ninja in his!

High key agree with you about the phenomenal score! I have honestly heard criticisms of it being too repetitive and I’m just, like, you…you mean the recurring themes?? It’s no different than any other medium reusing visual or linguistic motifs to emphasize significance or tone. I adore this turning point for Ed and Roy’s relationship; they really are both starting to genuinely respect each other as peers and not just an irritating commanding officer and his bratty ward. I think that’s why we get that adorably sheepish face when Ed accuses Roy of acting miserly; he’s actually a little embarrassed because he values Ed’s opinion. This leading into that conversation where Ed basically tells Roy he’s not allowed to go through with the suicide pact and that there’s always gonna be more work to be done to atone for his past actions. We’ve already seen Ed consider death (and be subsequently called back by Al), so it is something he can understand Roy’s feelings on to some degree. It’s such a heavy topic that this series handles with such grace and nuance. Gods, all in all, this ep does an amazing job of reminding me how masterful Arakawa is at carving space to allow the story to breathe while still moving the plot forward. Irt Kimblee and how he hides the stone, you are 100% correct about him regurgitating it; Harry Houdini was reputed to do the same trick with handcuff keys. It not in the lines, but I do believe Envy means one specific town, the one Marcoh was living in and complying to protect. The levity with which he says it is wild tho Adoring this reaction series as always! Yours might honestly be my favorite I’ve seen for FMAB!

The past 2 episodes are great for development of the story and it seems like it is definitely building up to something.

The whole scene in Dr Knox’s house was amazing in the dub, brings me to tears 🥺

FlexiejayAnime

I mean - I perfectly understood it. It isn't difficult to understand that scene no matter the language. It was beautiful, and tragic. And communicated brilliantly in my opinion.
