Rufus was seated at an outdoor tea house with Clive, Lorelei and a handsome Pakistani man. He looked at the person who had just stopped at their table and let out a sigh.

“Oh,” Jason said, surprise on his face. “Fancy bumping into all of you here.”

“Yes,” Rufus agreed. “It is funny. What brings you here, Jason?”

“Oh, I was just out on a stroll.”

“In Islamabad.”

“You know me: man of the world. G’day Lorelei. Clive.”

“Hello Jason,” Lorelei said while Clive just shook his head.

Jason held his hand out to the fourth person at the table.

“I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure. I’m Jason Asano.”

“I’ve heard a lot about you,” the man said as he shook Jason’s hand.

“Don’t believe what Rufus tells you about me,” Jason said. “Even if I could get the chicken, the goat and the snake to be friends, I’m not going to waste that much sesame oil.”

The man wrinkled his face in confusion.

“What?”

“I vaguely recall hearing that Rufus was seeing someone. I think they said you were a doctor?”

“That’s right,” the man said. “I’m—”

“Jason, who told you?” Rufus interrupted.

“Oh,” Farrah said as she wandered along the street. “Fancy meeting all of you here.”

“Why did I even ask?” Rufus muttered to himself.

“G’day Farrah,” Jason said. “I was just meeting Rufus’ new friend. Turns out he’s a doctor, but I didn’t catch his name yet.”

Rufus buried his face in his hands.

“My name is Hassan Dukhtar,” the man said.

“Hold on,” Jason said. “Your name is Handsome Doctor?”

“Hassan Dukhtar,” Hassan corrected.

“Which, more formally, would make you Doctor Handsome Doctor.”

“It’s Hassan Dukhtar.”

“That’s what I said. Doctor Handsome Doctor.”

“No, it’s—”

“Don’t,” Rufus said. “Just don’t. Jason, please go away before I tell the Americans about your little trips to Sandwich, Massachusetts.”

“How did you…? Fine. But it’s genuinely nice to meet you, Doctor Dukhtar. That was some courageous medic work you did last week. Not many would risk walking into a vampire war zone like that. You saved a lot of lives.”

“Uh, thank you. And, I guess, thank you for turning into a bird and doing… something. It wasn’t really clear what was going on in the video, but I’m told it was very important.”

“Come on,” Farrah said, giving Jason a push. “Let’s leave them to their double date.”

“Thank you so much for this,” Rufus told her with the opposite of sincerity.

“Look at it this way,” Farrah told him. “At least you can bring him home now, instead of avoiding clan territory to hide him from Jason.”

Farrah dragged Jason off while Rufus hung his head.

“Well,” Hassan said. “That wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting, after the big deal you made about it.”

“Oh, fancy meeting you here,” Arabelle Remore said as she strolled along the street with her husband.

“Hello, son,” Gabriel said. “Who’s your new friend?”

Further along the street, Farrah glanced back and chuckled.

“It’s a shame,” she said, “Gary would have loved that.”

***

Jason let out a sigh.

“I’m sorry, Travis.”

Ahead of the presentation Jason was going to give, he and Farrah had sat down Travis Noble and told him everything. They were in the steampunk city in the Saint-Étienne astral space, at a rooftop café.

“I trust my wife, Jason.”

“I’m glad,” Jason said. “I’ve seen nothing to make you think you should do otherwise.”

“I’ve known her for a long time,” Farrah said. “The years we worked together, building the Sky Link Network. Gabrielle is a friend, but this has to happen. She knows that Jason sees everything in his domains. She knows what Shade can do. If she did do anything, she would be extremely careful. We have to know what side she’s on, Travis.”

Travis sat in silence for a long time, his head bowed. Jason and Farrah shared a glance, but didn’t interrupt his thoughts. When Travis placed his hands on the table and looked up, they turned their attention to him again. When he spoke, his tone was low and soft, his anger pressed iron flat.

“I understand what you’re telling me. It makes sense. If you’re telling me the truth, and I have every faith that you are, then you can’t not do this. But I can’t help but hate you a little for it.”

Jason nodded.

“That’s fair.”

“I won’t help you. I won’t be a part of it. I’d warn her if I could, but I know you can stop me.”

Jason stared at his friend, searching his expression. Travis met his gaze with eyes full of challenge.

“Go, Travis. Tell her we’re coming. Warn her.”

“Jason…” Farrah said.

“No,” Jason said. “Travis, go find your wife.”

Travis stared at them for a moment before getting to his feet and hurrying off, without further words. Jason and Farrah were left on the rooftop, looking at each other.

“If she’s been playing us,” Farrah said, “she’s going to warn the others.”

“If she hasn’t, she’s going to warn them anyway.”

“Then what are you doing? We brought Travis here specifically so he’d realise that he has no chance to intervene. Why would you then go and give him one?”

“He’s earned the courtesy, and so has she. Also, I wanted you to be authentically unhappy when I changed the plan. Helps sell it.”

“Jason, what did you do?”

“I think most of the Knowledge clergy we brought with us have no idea what their goddess is up to. Her true agents might not even be amongst them. It’s how I’d do it. They know about Shade and have certainly taken countermeasures. But if Gabrielle sets the cat amongst the pigeons, they might slip up in the chaos. Give Shade a chance to find something they’ve managed to hide from him so far.”

“Jason, you’re bit of a manipulative prick.”

“Come on, Farrah. We both know I’m worse things than that.”

***

Gabrielle Pellin woke up to find her husband’s side of the bed empty. She extended her aura senses to find him walking up the stairs. A moment later, he entered their bedroom with a luxurious tray of food.

“I’m sorry I fell asleep before you got home,” he told her.

“I didn’t want you to wait up. I got in late.”

She glanced at the clock.

“Very late. Barely a few hours ago.”

“Then you definitely need this,” he sat, setting the tray down over her lap.

Travis happily watched his wife dig into the food. She looked at his goofy grin and shoved some crispy bacon in his mouth. He munched on it happily, but his smile soon faded to worry.

“Did you warn your people?”

“I did. I doubt any of Knowledge’s clergy are still in clan territory by now.”

“Except for you.”

“I can’t run. This city is his eyes, ears and hands. All I can hope is that he doesn’t stop the others.”

“I don’t think he will. If he was going to jump on them, why would he have brought me into his astral space and give me a chance to warn you? I mean, he explicitly told me to.”

She sat up straight from where she was lounging against a stack of pillows.

“He told you to?”

“Yeah, and Farrah wasn’t happy about it.”

She closed her eyes and winced.

“Damn it.”

“What?” Travis asked.

“Jason was never after me. He was trying to flush out a real spy.”

“There’s a real spy?”

“Not that I’m aware of, but he doesn’t know that. He’s always been so fast to distrust her, even with all she’s done for him.”

“Should you warn your people again?”

“No, the damage is done.”

An hour later, Travis and Gabrielle were downstairs in the kitchen when a knock came at the door. Moments later, an unhappy Travis was letting Jason inside. When they reached the kitchen, Gabrielle was making tea. She looked up and met eyes with Jason.

“I’d rather not drag this out,” he said.

“It’s not like I can stop you,” she told him.

“It might be best if you’re sitting down.”

She sat at the table and nodded at him. He nodded back and his aura came crashing down, not from his avatar but the city itself. It was silent, yet somehow blocked out the sound.

Did you know?

Jason’s question came from the aura itself, somehow. Gabrielle shook her head and managed to voice a denial she didn’t hear. Then it was over. The moment passed and she slumped into her chair.”

“Satisfied?” she asked, sweating as if she’s just run a marathon.

“I am. And I’m sorry.”

“I don’t betray, Jason. Not my goddess, not my husband and not even your hospitality.”

“I believe you. But you know what she’s doing now, right?”

“According to you. I don’t share my husband’s confidence in your judgement, but that doesn’t mean I think you’re lying. I just think you’re wrong.”

“You’ve never seen something that made you question? Never had doubts?”

“Everyone has doubts, Jason, but they don’t matter. That’s why they call it faith.”

Asano Academy was the premier educational institution for magic on planet Earth. Granting access to international students had been one of the strongest cards the clan had to play while building their influence. The full-time staff included Emi, Clive, Belinda and Lorelei, although many in Jason’s circle gave guest lectures or held special events. People would fly across the world to hear Jason lecture on auras, or to attend a Rufus workshop on the integration of physicality and magic.

Jason and his close circle were no strangers to the Academy, but having so many on campus at the same time caused a stir. No event had been announced, but many prominent figures had gathered. There were otherworldly adventurers and key figures from the clan. There were messengers and Cabal members, and even a couple of interdimensional former pirates.

Jota Withers and his second in command, Natala Spiro, had surrendered themselves and their dimension ship to Jason on his return to Earth. That vessel had been heavily reverse engineered, providing much of the magitech in Earth’s new airship fleet. Jota had been given back command of the ship for the battle with the vampires, acquitting himself well.

The attendees arrived on campus in small groups, lingering in the main quad. Students and staff alike came to observe, some of the bolder ones making an approach. Soon the more famous people were surrounded, from an uncomfortable-looking Humphrey to a shamelessly attention-hogging Nik.

There was a three-person contingent from the Cabal, led by Boris Ket Lundi himself. With him was the were-crocodile troll, Darryl, and an essence user from New Zealand named Koa. One of the people pulled from Earth to Pallimustus, he’d followed his new friend Darryl into the Cabal on their return. With his natural talent and friendly relations with Jason, he’d become a key figure in the Cabal’s small contingent of essence users.

Jason greeted Darryl and Koa warmly.

“Gentlemen, it’s been a while. How have you been?”

“It’s been an interesting week,” Darryl said. “They had us in Egypt. Turns out those vine things had crawled right under the Mediterranean.”

“It was a nasty business,” Jason said.

“Not as nasty as your familiar,” Koa said. “We were happily fighting some vampires that were going weird or exploding when your familiar starts bursting out of the ground like we struck oil that wants to eat people.”

“There’s nothing wrong with Colin. He’s a good boy.”

“He’s a sanguine horror,” Boris said. “Messengers completely abandoned planets that had just one of them. And they use apocalypse beasts as weapons of mass destruction.”

“He’s still a good boy.”

Tera Jun Casta and Jali Corrik Fen also joined the gathering, the two messengers visibly wary of Boris. They had both left behind the messenger civil war, and even if Boris was on the side they nominally supported, he was ultimately still a soldier in the Orthodoxy war. While they had come at it from different directions, and neither shirked from a fight, both women wanted lives that had nothing to do with that war.

The Network factions, global governments and the EDJI had only a single representative. With the arrival of Michael Mills, Jason headed for one of the smaller lecture halls and the rest of the group followed. A few of the observers tried to follow, only to be politely but firmly rebuffed by Shade at the main doors.

Inside the lecture hall, people were claiming seats. Jason approached Michael and shook his hand.

“I’m glad you could come, General. I know the last week has been a lot busier for you than for me.”

“You’re not as glad as the brass back home,” Michael said. “Having one of their own on this sneak preview of your presentation next week has made my government very happy.”

“Don’t let them get too happy. The rest of the world will be getting discreet leaks before the main event, so no one is distractingly surprised on the day. While it’s always amused me to drop info bombs and watch people react, I’ve been told that it’s not the best way to get what I want. Also, that it’s immature. To be honest, Michael, I want you to know what you’re up against, as soon as you can. You did a fine job against the vampires, and you know the reward for a job well done.”

Michael snorted a laugh.

“Yeah, another damn job.”

Jason grinned and slapped him on the arm. Seeing that most people had found a seat, he made his way to the front of the room. Once everyone was seated, all eyes turned to him and the room went quiet.

“I have a lot to talk about today,” he told them. “I’m going to ask you to keep questions to a minimum while I go through it all, and then I’ll answer them at the end. I’m also going to cover everything. Some of you will have already heard parts of what I’m going to tell you, but almost no one here knows it all.”

He glanced at Farrah.

“Almost all of you will learn some new things today, and most of you will learn a lot. I don’t think any of you are going to like it.

He panned his eyes across his audience, his expression grim.

“Alright, let’s begin.”

So yes. Chapter end here. Makes sense. But also-WHY DOES IT END HERE?!?!?!?

Robhnar

“Alright, let’s begin.” You have a problem The big one

Rick

Why am I not surprised. A prelude to the lead up to the big cliffhanger on Friday. LOVED IT.🥪

Daniel Wills

Lmao. Most of us are like TELL US ABOUT THE KNOWLEDGE WAR THING WTF Meanwhile what we really want is Jason trolling Rufus’ new boyfriend with Rufus’ parents. We can’t deny it.

Unwillingmainer

I suppose he handled that with Travis about as well as possible given the circumstances, and much better then his historic average. Just how bad is this war going to be? How do you fight a goddess who knows what you are thinking? How will the divine rules work when she's the only one on Earth? Or will other divines follow her through and have thoughts about it? I can see Dominion very eager to see what his favorite tyrant to be has been up to.

Thomas Foster

I don’t know if I’ve ever been so excited for a chapter in my life, even if it’s not covered in the next chapter, I’m really looking forward to everything being laid out bare for everyone.

ReXoan

I want to know… way to tease with just the “tip” of the iceberg

Richard Bonds

Ooof. That scene with Travis was rough on the feels. Great chapter, Shirt!

Wicked Monkey Software

This is when we find out that knowledge knows how to clone herself and live forever. Or become a real girl. Or some crazy reason for all of this. Right? That’s happening? Probably not. The only thing I’m missing is a motive. I can’t piece it together.

Mason

Tyftc!!

Andrea W

Thanks again. Wrapping this book up nicely.....

Catfan

Typo: "why would he have brought me into his astral space and give me a chance to warn you?" - I'm pretty sure this should be 'given' instead of 'give', since 'brought' is past tense.

Adrian

I blame it on Heintz Ketchup commercials from the 70s

mockery jones

Tftc. I look forward to the two weeks ago in xxxxxx that inevitably follows.

Ligeia

You and me both. Her motive completely eludes me. Also, poor Rufus and Handsome Doctor!

TennTitan

Thanks for the Chapter!! I love reading every one and this is one of the only stories posted this way that I constantly follow. Jason and Gangs antics are always a joy to read!

Worros

I've just made the leap that Knowledge fills all the major faiths with a single omnipotent god. Tinfoil hat time. Could it actually be multiple gods wanting to remake themselves like Hero? Purity, Deceit and Knowledge all working with the original builder. Step 1, raise earth mana levels so it can support gods...

Pål Hvatum

Thanks for the chapter shirt.

Tyler S.

As a god embodiment of Knowledge is there a line in wich they no longer recognize the groath of greed to need to know everything. So if they are attempting to become more than just a God, whos to say they wouldn't take a world all for themselves, best part is having already co-oppted the planets original growing diety

Corvid

Both of them are grammatically correct enough to get the point across.

Marcus

If the next chapter starts with the meeting being complete, I'm probably going to cry.

John Philemon

NOW PLEASE give us a chapter that is just jason explaining EVERYTHING that's happedned up to this point, like full (or as good as he can make it) time line of events

Timothy

Is this the pre-cliffhanger for the cliffhanger?

Wicked Monkey Software

That would be a first. Usually when chapters end like this, it just skips to him wrapping up on the next chapter. Then you have to read another six chapters to find out. Shirt doesn’t like spelling it out. If we do get a chapter with all the details… then you should probably consider them suspect.

Jeff

He really is a good boy

Agent P.

Walked right off that cliff

Logrus

...That makes a good amount of sense. Knowledge setting herself up to be Yhwh, more or less.

Gotrek65

Oh god I've seen him do that but please for all that is holy no😭

Sean

Yeah if Knowledge’s purpose is a thirst for knowledge, she will take an opportunity to invade a planet with entirely new knowledge. I suspect it won’t be bloody or violent, and that’s likely why Jason did what he did. Imagine a fractured power structure with advanced magitech trying to fight Knowledge’s army piecemeal. That would be a slaughter of earth’s forces. Instead knowledge gets to bring in thousands of gold rankers and interview them under duress to get all of their knowledge or take them to the other world so Knowledge can absorb their information for herself. He’s probably seeing this as the way to keep the most people safe. They will get abducted and forced to share knowledge but they will survive.

Gotrek65

Also did we just find out that Rufus is gay and has a crush on a Handsome Doctor? 🤣 Even the wiki shows his ex-boyfriend I've listened to all the books at least 10 times and never made the connection! I'm inspired awed and shocked.😲

Michael Cain

Hmmm, I believe he has an arrangement with the World Pheonix, only Gold Ranks and below can come through... so it is possible for the Earthers to put up a fight. But, Jason demonstrating to the entire world how weak/futile it is to fight him, and he is just a Gold rank+, they have their worl cut out for them. I don't think Knowledge herself is the threat to earth.. just her worshippers. What it is they are coming for I dunno? Enslavement? Dibs on recruitment? Is the key to removing monster core junk off the soul thing found on Earth? Through that one lightning user? Or others that haven't been found?

WallacetheNPC

*Shakes Fists At Shirt* I bet my last galleon that we won't know until next book.

Nicolas Hebert

Listen, what if : -Knowledge isn t actually preparing to invade earth. - The cult of the Reaper is actually aiming to invade earth for some reason (we know something is happening from Roland's discussion with the mirror king) -Knowledge has been building up an army to counter them, to protect a whole world and its knowledge, which would make sense (Knowledge protecting knowledge, even if from another world). We know for sure that Knowledge was building up an army, and we know something is going to happen, but was it actually clearly said somewhere, by someone that actually know for sure, that Knowledge was invading, or are we just assuming that is the case because of the available information so far ? Is Jason saying this because he knows, or is it because this is what actual Jason told Avatar Jason ?

Parker Bond

Jason spelling it out would be an amazing recap before a new book

Brad Gammey

What a cliff! We have the pieces, they've been there since book 1, but to hear the scope and phrasing... it's gonna be so huge.

Arieh Sochaczevski

No. We’ve known Rufus was gay for a very long time. Remember the dude in the Adventurer Society with the awesome mustache?

John Durrett

He should have been taking notes. ;p

Chiqui Joy

We’ve known he was gay from Greenstone. But I also missed it the first time I listened to the books and caught it on my first re-read Rufus’ first bf that we knew about was the guy with the mustache in Greenstone, who became Stash’s inspiration to mustaches on everyone

Pierce

This right here is peak Shirt Fun, puns, heart, hard decisions, and teeing up an interplanetary war

Gotrek65

I remember all the waxing his head jokes but it's never hit me until now. I mean it makes sense with the church of fertility in his world. I feel like one of those people who doesn't realize 2 people are a thing until someone blurted it out 😅

John Durrett

By creating avatars with limited, broken or incorrect storylines to trip her up. Jason learned how to do that trick when he fought for the throne.

Chiqui Joy

I deffy need an explanation of why it would be bad for Knowledge to come to Earth. We’ve never heard/seen evidence of her deliberately harming anyone. Her lack of respect for privacy causes some harm, but not even close to the level of justifying the “let’s fight an interplanetary war” position that Jason is taking. I guess I share Gabrielle’s suspicion of Jason’s judgment

John Durrett

I feel as bad for Rufus as I did for Travis.

Donald A

Yes but any good author can appreciate a spell check that pays you for the subscription.

Kristy Riedel

Shirt is a closet Dom, edging us along with these miniature rewards. Sign me up as a closet sub.

David Harshman

Sounds like someone glossed over the chapters discussing the Holy Wars at the beginning of Pallimustus history. All the gods of Pallimustus have done very bad things in search of imposing their Will on the world. Nothing suggests Knowledge was any different. And, without the restrictions of the other gods balancing her, she would have nothing stopping her from being a tyrant.

MrCynical

I find it very hard to believe Boris, Dawn, and Raythe are all wrong about Knowledge's intentions.

David Harshman

I don't think Diamond rankers crossing the Bridge from Pallimustus to Earth would count as violating the World Phoenix's prohibition...though, I could be wrong.

David Harshman

Pretty sure the nefarious goal is forced worship...

Josh

We have seen Knowledge being incredibly manipulative, to the point of causing direct strife to get her way. The particular scene that makes Knowledge look like a villain to me is in Chapter 15 of Book 2. I remember it very clearly because it was a particularly moving exchange. Knowledge has asked Jason to worship her in exchange for support against the Builder's cultists. Jason refuses. A priest of knowledge goes to Rufus to try to convince him to tell Jason to give in. Rufus backhands the Priest, responding: "If your goddess is willing to hand over such information, then by what moral stricture does she not? Instead, she looks to ransom a man's principles. You just tried to turn me on my fried, a man who saved my life, and you have the gall to lay there looking surprised? If you want to help me, then help me. Bring your self-serving ways to me again and you'll get worse than you got today." There are a bunch of other little hints throughout the books that Knowledge is definitely not wholly benevolent, and is playing her own game, but that is the one that sticks out to me.

David Harshman

Gotta admit...I did feel actually bad for Travis for this one. And, I am even a bit sad for Gabrielle, though that feels tinted by pity and a bit of fear that she'll choose Knowledge over Travis if/when they come into conflict.

Nicolas Hebert

But did they actually told Jason Knowledge was invading ? I re read Raythe chapter, and unless I missed it, we only know she talked about Knowledge because she mentionned Gabrielle, but it was not said that Knowledge was invading. Dawn didn t say anything either, and I do not recall what Boris said, but I m not sure he said Knowledge was invading. If you have the chapter where he said it, please tell me which one it is so that I can look it up

Steve Parks

Are you Clive’s wife?!?!?

Steve Parks

I miss Gary, he would have loved this. RIP you big furry sob.

William

I don’t think Earth has enough magic to support a Diamond ranker yet or maybe it does now I guess we will find out eventually

Ian Burkhill

Okay this may sound weird but Jason has always been OP he fought Great Astral Beings to a stand still. Hell the council of kings is far more powerful than the palli gods as they're tied to the planet(s) plus earth would not worship her. She maybe knowledge but healers have knowledge but worship healer she doesn't get their faith. It goes against what's been set up in 12 books and leaves potholes what did that yaresth faction have to do with anything or Rufus's grandfather's guild? Knowledge just seems to be a weak big bad when other gods pop in for tea

Nayee

I dont think knowledge herself would come down. But imagine 10 diamond rankers coming to earth for a holy war.

Soulessone

Okay.... so I had had a hard time seeing knowledge as a villain. I'm not saying she is perfect or always does the moral thing. But she hasn't given me a villain vibe. A selfish god sometimes sure, but not villain. That leads me to two theories. And I would love your though. 1. Knowledge is trying to "conquer" the world because a larger threat is coming and earth is ready for it. So she is attempting to help in order to stop something worse. 2. She doesn't want to be a God any more but an astral being. Something not tied to a planet but a concept that is universal. So if she can spread her influence to a different planet would she begin to qualify to be a great astral being. Thus no longer being tied to Palli's demise

Darth Bob

So it begins………………………again 😉

Kalanaere

Boo! I don't like this chapter ending I want more !! Oh and the entire Travis and Gabby bedroom/eating scene doesn't sound right: “I’m sorry I fell asleep before you got home,” he told her. (Shouldn't this be She told him? Travis is awake and bringing food) She looked at his goofy grin and shoved some crispy bacon in his mouth. He munched on it happily, but his smile soon faded to worry. (Just to clarify this is her feeding him right? It isn't meant to be her feeding herself?) Now just to toss this out there; Jason is absolutely convinced that Knowledge is the bad guy. Not to say that's wrong but is there any possibility that somebody else is pulling the strings that he doesn't know about and manipulating events and the story to make it appear as though Knowledge is the problem? It wouldn't be the first time something like this occured

Josh A

If knowledge is tied into the astral bridge somehow, maybe she could cross over if enough of her worshippers crossed over. Also, despite her evincing a somewhat matronly, caring vibe, we say "knowledge is power" for a reason. What does power want? More power! Maybe if she can beat the rush, she can be the only game in town for awhile, before the other gods like death and healing form naturally.

Idan tal

The fact that the emergent of the gods on Pali was very violent and destructive, and that unbelievers are more likely than not to be struck down by the gods shows that even the “good guys” aren’t without interest in forcing the people to worship them, by force if necessary. What is the exact factor that they need from their believers is what we are missing, but if it’s needed enough to go to war over it than been the first and only god in Earth instead of needing to competing with a bunch of other gods later on is also worth lunching a war for.

Kalanaere

Her trying to get Jason to relinquish all his Essences for her divine choices is another good example

Kalanaere

That agreement only stands as long as Jason himself is not Diamond Rank. Do we know for certain just how far into Gold he is?

Marcus

There were multiple off screen implied conversations over those various chapters

BloodStorm

The Phoenix blocked all diamond rankers from earth until Jason reaches diamond rank. So even when Jason is ready to rank up i seriously doubt he will because of that

BloodStorm

Yeah the World Phoenix is blocking all diamond rankers from earth until Jason hits diamond. That’s why the space pirates could only send gold rankers. I think the problem is that Palli has way more gold rankers than earth.

BloodStorm

At least he didn’t give us this cliff on a Friday

Michael Cain

And Palis gold rankers are worth 20+ of Earthers... cause they won't be at Jason's level, but they won't be scrubs either...

Dennis Burk

My thoughts on Knowledge is that I don't think she sees this as being bad. I think with knowing that the bridge will have a permanent crossing that basically anybody can take to and from Pallimatus, and the the fact she knows all the knowledge from the Earth outworlder. I think she see this as just searching for knowledge. I don't think this will end in an actual war. I think she will just be sending over all of her people. I think Jason sees this as bad because this would make her a "super" God on Pallimatus. Earth magitech is more advance but since the 10 years with Travis and the others on Pallimatus it's not that much more advanced. But Earth compared to Pallimatus is super weak in comparison. I do think she is trying to become an astral being, but I'm thinking that will create a huge problem with the Celestial Book (he is basically the astral being of knowledge and disseminating knowledge). I think the worst thing that will happen is she over steps her authority and brings down higher powers. And when those higher power fight worlds and universes get destroyed. I think that's ultimately Jason's biggest fear.

2026-09-06 06:00 We don’t know what the problem is yet but I’m enjoying the speculation even if some of you are approaching it like children- it’s super exhausting- like, just wait for the explanation and stop griping about plot holes and stuff. A good story teller, like shirt, leaves crumbs as evidence and misdirection. And for those defending (or anything adjacent to it) Knowledge, just stop. The theme of these books has been consistent: Powerful people/entities thinking people’s lives are tools to be used and thrown away. They are monsters. And Jason is he who fights with monsters. And as they say: roll around with dogs and get fleas. So let’s just wait for the drop and stop all the whining and entitlement. We’re adults here.

GentlemanG33k

I wonder if Gabrielle ever realized Knowledge wanted to use her as a honey pot on Jason?

Stephanie Washburn

Honestly, as moving as Rufus standing up for Jason and being a loyal friend is, I find it bad proof for "Knowledge has always been evil." Knowledge is a goddess. As important as regional conflicts or an early start to an invasion is to the people involved, I don't think she was wrong to not give the info over as a favor. It was a significant enough moment that there definitely was divine or GAB attention limiting how Knowledge could act. I don't think it was worth even minorly sanctioning herself to share the information. She has more freedom to talk to her followers, however hurt people get that she isn't acting like a mortal friend. Goddesses have different restrictions than humans and Jason never seems to take that seriously, however often he repeats it. Plus, say Knowledge actually is a friend. I don't care how Jason does friendship with not counting favors or whatever - she has a right to expect that she shouldn't be the only one giving something to the friendship. All that had happened before that had been her trying to help and Jason being awful about it. I don't really blame her for wanting him to commit to the kind of relationship she was open to (She's a Goddess. Goddesses want followers). And I don't blame him for not being into that style of relationship.

Stephanie Washburn

I'd find that more entertaining than an abrupt heel-turn for Knowledge. Also the audience never heard Raythe's full explanation, at least not beyond why Jason can't mess with time.

Stephanie Washburn

He's been at least bi forever, but I remember him dating Vincent Trenslow of the magnificent mustache all the way back in... Either book one or two. Edit: I apologize for not being the third person to excitedly tell you about this.

Stephanie Washburn

Yeah, I really need it explained because I'm still not on board with the whole idea. He needs to say why they think Knowledge is up to no good.

Stephanie Washburn

Knowledge doesn't have to interview people - she just knows everything anyone knows.

Marcus

Difficult to object when it comes from boris, raythe, and dawn.. We have most of the why with all the transcendent beings taking advantage of the throne being sundered. Wouldn't have been possible if palli and earth weren't created in the way that they were. I'm more curious about the consequences of these actions. Apparently they will be cosmic.

Russell Ventimeglia

I find the timing of Hero sanctioning himself kind of interesting. I know it’s been years and hinted that Gary had something to do with his reasons. But, what if it were more? What if he knew what was coming and wanted no part of it? Hmm.

Marter

I like this

Madeline Mckean

Ok but more importantly is Clive on a date

Ligeia

We met him in the mountain city where Jason was collecting people from Earth to take them.back home. He helped fight the aerial monsters.

AJ Briones

A date with his wife.

Off-screen implied conversations are worthless for me. How often have we seen Shirt make a big implied hint that turns out to be diametrically opposed to what actually happens? Often enough that I just don't get Into the game of trying to predict where he's going. He's kept us reading for 12 books while hiding the great big final conflict so thoroughly that everyone is reading different answers from the same words. I'm just hoping he starts actually *telling* us on Friday, but he'll probably talk around it again like he does so well! He still has at least one more book to write and multiple incomplete sub-plots to wrap up, after alll!

Kristy Riedel

Maybe I am, he is totally my type. I'm not as loose with my affections as she is alleged to be though.

Dax

Is Clive cheating on Clive's Wife with his wife?! Scandalous behavior!

Kristy Riedel

What's the point of a discussion board if not to discuss? We don't all have to agree with each other, or even understand half of what people say. The point is to participate in a community of people who share a common interest. Adults don't need to whine about others participating differently than they do.

Kristy Riedel

Yes, Shirt loves to make us think we finally know something for sure before he finally reveals the unexpected truth that makes total sense. There are many threads out there that could tie in to the final resolution of the series. From the top down I could include the cosmic throne, the original builder (and/or his replacement), the originals, the astral kings, the various gods of Pali, the order of the reaper, the purity relic, and Thadwick. Knowledge as the big bad may be a red herring, we just won't know until it's over. But isn't it fun to debate and speculate?

Kristy Riedel

I do think we are being led down this path towards a big twist. That's why we were not in on the big reveal from Rayth. All of this is Jason's plan to catch the real bad guy.

David Cooper

Way back in book 6, North was in the group visiting Jason's new magical city. He looked around and said softly, "Oh, dear. She is not going to like this." I'm thinking now that he was talking about Knowledge. He and his companion were on a mission from her. Which means, wowzers, what a hint of the endgame from that far back.

ThoMiCroN

Do sanguine horrors devour their own kind ?

JW Saxby

A religious war is the worst and most brutally violent type of war. This is about to get dark real quick. I wonder if the OG Purity and the Hero God will some how make an appearance in this war on Jason’s side. Maybe because they’re heroically fighting against the otherworldly gods to keep Earth “pure” from outside divine forces from giving its own worlds gods a proper chance to be created. OR I wonder if an Earth God will be created from this conflict!? OR OR, I wonder if Jason somehow actually becomes Earths “God” (kinda sorta temporarily unwilling) and he his a collection of multiple Palli Gods in one as he does embody multiple aspects of many of the Palli gods and is kinda like a Demi-God and already receiving prays from the Earthlings. Ooooo! 🤩🙏🏼 so many juicy possibilities 🙌🏼😁👍🏼 Tftc 🍻

Great recall, I remember thinking about it at the time, who North could’ve been referring to. What a hint If this turns out to be true.

AC Lee

My first patreon comment and I haven’t read all the comments on all the chapters so apologies if this has already been discussed. Back in book 10(I think?) after the battle of Yaresh when Jason meets w Liberty to discuss he messengers he has and she (basically out of left field) tells him she’ll block what he’s doing with them from Knowledge. Is that still A Thing? That jumped out at me when I read it and makes me wonder how much is hidden from her.

Catfan

I doubt Colin'd be fussed about it.

Jacob Edwards

I thought they were just good friends

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter!

Liy

Knowledge is just information, not Truth or Understanding or Wisdom. She's basically a sentient AI with psychic powers. If knowledge came to earth, she would know everyone's dirty secrets and have the power to share that information to everyone. She wouldn't have the same limitations she has now with other god domains on palli. She has also proven to be a manipulative bitch willing to sacrifice people to get what she wants. She may even have ultimately benevolent intentions like saving the world, but she would have way to much power without the other gods to keep her in check. I don't think she's an evil god, but I think the line between good and evil gods is not so black and white. I do think it's interesting that Jason's domains are a direct counter to her power on earth. I think Jason taking over the world would be a solution, but not a good one. Maybe he will try to raise up an earth pantheon of gods before she arrives to limit the power she has.

Addie

My favourite part was when Jason walked to the presentation, delivering on the promise made last chapter. It was reassuring to hear that there were no dramatic twists for the side character most central to the next conflict.

Liy

Wait... Isn't the System just access to knowledge? What power does she have over a world that is already well informed? Maybe the goddess will end up working for the System administrator lol.

Tony

Prepare for DUNE - Jason Kwisatz Haderach

Michael Romo

1 we got koa and we're croc again i was wondering what happened to em. 2 so glad we got it last chapter. Shirt trying to give the bluest off balls. Lol 3 I wanna know how nik is attention grabbing. Cuz it's been a decade, they should be used to rabbit man?

3rdImpact

I actually expected a reference there. Like : They do not know, that we know, that they know, that we know. But maybe shirt is not a friend's fan.

Ashley Duncan

I’ve always thought that Jason was being set up to take the place of a god - possibly Purity given all the talk about needing another god to replace Deception and Dominion clearly liking him a lot and speaking to him as an equal - so I’m very excited and also horrified to see where all this goes…. Gah, the suspense. I can’t even… *dramatic faint*

Soli116

Colin is a good boy.

WathelBroaggie

He already made this joke actually, Belinda says it when they're walking into the spring-claw gorilla nest in book... 11? I think

3rdImpact

Damn I remebe now! There was an earlier reference about that... Thanks for the reminder! I stand corrected!

BloodStorm

Wait are we on a new release schedule?

Azayrian105

Yeah I was wondering where today's chapter was.

Kallem

Hassan Dukhtar = Hasan Piker 😂

Joshua Batts

Nah, daylight savings happened, so it's an hour later.

RonGAR

TWO THINGS I WANT EVERYONE TO NOTE: Jason did have to let his behavior with Colin be broadcast. I have a feeling that was a ploy. He is up against the goddess of 'knowledge', when she gets to earth, she will know everything everyone knows. So Jason is making everything they 'know' false. Or not the full truth. Here is what I think... I Bet Colin did get a whole LOT of power from eating the roots and was able to store it. Jason should now be able to make a bunch of new avatars/replacements from that power. But they told the world Colin couldn't hold that power in order to keep knowledge unaware that Jason has other Avatars, so she only targets the one 'everyone' knows about. Jason could keep this a secret because he could wipe the memories of this one avatar. And if he doesn't know it, neither will knowledge. Also Jason Deal with Jamis: Jamis is going to weaponize vampires and that relic that was used to stab Jason in the back. I bet he's learning everything he can about that item, and how it allowed the user to 'sneak up on' Jason . A weapon that can mask the user from god like senses and destroy an avatar or likely, Kill a God, is a must have item, don't you think? I have a feeling Jamis will be the Darkhorse that kinda sorta, 'saves the day' and does in Knowledge or her plans for great power/authority. These are my two things to note. Who wants to make a bet w/ me. I accept Cashapp, Paypal, Venmo... LOLOLOLOLOL

Esther Prenosil

I don't like betting, but I do think Jason has some kind of trick he's hidden from his avatar.

Esther Prenosil

The book does seem to be leading up to accepting that he's "a bit goddy" as part of his emotional character arc.

RonGAR

@Esther I was Joking about the 'actual' bet. LOL

Landon Casey

“..Gary would have loved that.” My HEART, Travis. My HEART 😭😭😭

Frank Morgana

Fancy meeting you here. hahaha love that!
