sketches from a trip to the mountains πποΈβοΈ (Patreon)

recently, I had the great joy of going on a trip to the mountains with old friends, some of whom I've known since 6th grade. we did a ton of hiking and saw so much gorgeous nature, which left me completely speechless. we even got to see snow, which was really fun (said by a southern californian who mainly sees sun year round)! I spent a lot of time standing around and staring into the distance, taking in the sound of nature (surprisingly quiet), letting my mind wander. it was really special to be with people who have known me since I was a teen and to witness the ways we've all grown into adults as life has taken us in varied directions.
I love sketching while out and about, because I get to observe new/different spaces and draw things I wouldn't normally. I had a lot of fun gathering various bits of fallen nature and studying them through the act of sketching. in all truth I spent most of my time observing rather than drawing, just finding myself entirely fascinated by all the shapes, colors, and textures the natural world has on display. the older I get, the more important nature and preserving nature becomes to me. it's something I try to pay attention to whenever I get the chance, just existing alongside it and watching its rhythms and patterns. the ecosystems of this planet are filled with so many other worlds and recognizing my part in it helps me feel more grounded and connected to my surroundings, to others, to myself.
