been playing around with oil pastels again recently and I'm loooving it so much! I've learned more about the medium since I first tried it out two years ago and it's been exciting to see how my familiarity and confidence has grown in that time. I've been encouraging myself to try out all sorts of different traditional mediums ever since and have felt repeatedly humbled and excited in the process. I'm often faced with the limitations of my knowledge and ability, which tempers my ego and also get to experience the joy of learning something new and gradually improving at a skill. the discomfort is something I've come to seek as I revel in the making of "ugly" art that betrays my awkwardness with a new tool. my hands dirtied with the detritus of flaking and smeared oils pair naturally with the amused smile that creeps across my face as I feel my capacity to be surprised come alive.
