new year, new opportunities for me to just make stuff and see what happens~ really over feeling too scared to try things (old hat!!!), life goes on and so must I! I recently acquired a new brush type (long round) that has been a real gamechanger and super fun to use. :D I've only had rounds in my arsenal til now and while I like their shape, it's hard to get any sort of taper with them. long round brushes have all the qualities of rounds with the added versatility of a thin taper, so you can do more precise work like lettering or details. here's a page I did just testing out my new brushes in sizes 2 and 4:

I've also really enjoyed picking one color and painting with it. it's a nice way for me to learn more about a medium without having to think about too much. of course blue was my first choice, who do you think you are I am...!

it's always satisfying to find a new tool that positively adds to how you do things. it's rare, most experiments with new supplies are lukewarm or inconsequential, but when you find something that works it's a great feeling. I'm excited to do more gouache painting with the long rounds to see what kind of effects I can achieve!
