recently, I've been inspired by the free-sketch approach of artists Acky Bright and Katsuya Terada. I find both the lowkey loadout (paper, pen, and an active imagination) and approach quite attractive and wanted to give it a go. over the years I've gotten into the habit of overthinking/planning what I make and liked the change up of just sketching whatever comes to me without much preamble. it reminds me a lot of how I used to sketch in the margins of my notes in school, my mind wandering as the teacher droned on about some subject I had no interest in. I've generally been feeling less pinned to any one technique or style and am enjoying trying things out without any expectation about the outcome. whether I learn something useful or not is besides the point, I think the experience and trying itself is plenty interesting!
