hello! ✽

my process hasn't evolved much from previous months and it's actually been nice to get better acquainted with a way of doing things without feeling like I need to jump around all the time. both pieces are done in procreate and I used the brushes Pipeline and Swansea for the majority of the artworks.

speedpaint is up top, wallpapers are at the bottom. enjoy~

starting with a reference board is still my go-to way to get things going. it really helps me narrow down all the ideas that are floating around in my head at any given time and make them make sense. like a process of elimination if you will.

next, I braindump ANY ideas I have for artwork based on themes I noticed while building the ref board. I recently read a piece of writing advice that said to "spend it all", meaning to not keep ideas to yourself or save them for a "better" time. just get everything out onto the page before jumping the gun and making judgment calls about whether or not an idea is "good enough". I end up sketching a lot of things that don't work right now, but can easily see myself using for another artwork down the line.

I continue to get mileage out of paintings I did months ago and scanned/took pictures of to use as added texture in my digital art. I explained my process in last month's bts post and have used the same pieces here. this technique is one of my FAVORITE ways to add more organic texture to my digital work due to its versatility! it's so easy and quick and adds so much oomph for so little effort.

like, com'n! it's so good!! I seriously can't get enough, I'm excited to make new paintings soon so I can work with new textures and experiment more. but also it's truly if it ain't broke...for next month's artworks, I really want to keep finding ways to incorporate texture digitally and push my ability to abstract concepts and inject mystery! ooh wee, we'll see how it goes!
