i'm making combinations of things in ways you wouldn't even IMAGINE
or maybe you are able to imagine it, in which case, my bad <3
from the same piece of paper that brought you the little paper garden, march's postcard, and the backdrop for mail photos comes this new border of ocean waves and two abstract art pieces! me and this painted piece of paper? we got history. I talked about getting more mileage out of the same thing and it's been really cool to see how that has manifested down the line. when I painted the paper several months ago, I was just experimenting with gouache and mixing colors. I had no idea it would turn into a texture I use repeatedly, a way to create decorative objects, and handfuls of artworks that would push me to try new techniques!
the last two pictures are collage artworks I made from the cutting scraps of the ocean wave piece. it was really fun challenging myself to create compositions out of existing pieces and think about arranging things in new ways. it felt more like fitting a puzzle together rather than creating fully from the ground up. it also made me think a lot more about the importance of negative space in art, reflecting on the fact that not every space needs to be filled up and that there's a great visual power in emptiness and the way it emphasizes what is there.
