got my stinky mitts on some new supplies recently that have already proven to be major QOL upgrades. naturally, I wanted to paint after setting up my new palette so here are paintings I made from that session. I used watercolor paper this time, which felt like such a treat since I usually use my Talens Art Creation sketchbooks. they're great and can hold some water, but will always warp and pill past a certain point since the paper is thinner. I got to go all out with wet-on-wet techniques, like saturating the entire page with water before painting to get these gorgeous blooms and fuzzy colors (pic 3). so fun and unwieldy, definitely something I want to experiment with more!

as for the supplies, behold, the palette:

as you can see it's nothing fancy, but boy has this change been a long time coming. turns out that palette pans exist for a reason, to keep the paints separate from one another. as do separate mixing areas, so you can actually mix the color you want without it immediately bleeding into another. I know, radical concept for as you can also see, this is the old palette I was using: (and yes, before you ask, it was both highly impractical and utterly chaotic <3)

just colors running together constantly every which way, entirely the wrong tool for the job. how I ever mixed a non-muddy shade is beyond me. also, I'm one step closer to painting on the go now that I have this palette! very exciting, gonna see if I can take it for a spin sometime this week!
