inspired by yet another Sandi Hester video (when am I not), I made a mini series of portraits using some new oil pastels I recently bought. per Sandi's technique, I approximated the placement of general facial features and as a result had a lot of fun focusing on shapes and colors instead of accuracy. these days I am beating accuracy down with a piece of driftwood, it's just where our relationship is at. oil pastels are one of my favorite mediums, because you can really just go for it and embrace the messiness and texture. if anything, it's where the medium really shines. I like anything with art that makes me feel less precious about what I'm creating, words no doubt uttered by many a recovered (? only time will tell) perfectionist (or what I prefer to call expert worrier <3).
