I'd prefer unity and not empire of humanity but not mass effect unity. Too much politics and not enough fighting or accepting the threat. Too much "nah the threats not real"

We could always go with my previous suggestion with the batarians enslaving, multiple races and the humans come along and liberate them, and they become vessel or protectorate states to the United Terran Empire but not slaves, though slavery is a horrible thing and there could be some other races as well such as the Twi-leks from Star Wars and maybe the Zoltan’s as well

You should go for the unintended Black Lion Space Monarchy. He could save species due to his own curiosity about them before said species declare him King in gratitude. Do you plan for him to have any children? Hes sleeping with a lot of women and a few children could bring some lighthearted fun or humor to the story.
