Just Another Josh

So this is definitely one of the weirdest things a studio has ever done with a successful anime. These episodes basically adapted parts of a few different chapters from later on, mostly ones that help progress Kaguya and Shirogane's relationship. Almost everything here happened in the manga, but WAY later and with tons of stuff in between them. The movie that's coming later will likely cover either a redo of the final chapters (hopefully fixing the disappointing ending) or will cover their life in university. If it focuses more on the university stuff it may well be 100% original content. I actually approve of them changing the ending, but the cut content sucks so much. ESPECIALLY because there is a pretty solid Ishigami arc that's going to be left out of all this. Season 4 would have covered his own bit of romantic drama, which was pretty clearly being setup last season. I actually really liked that arc, so the fact that we're losing it really hurts. I can't imagine the movie will have time to squeeze in any of that, but maybe they'll surprise me. Either way, there are over 100 chapters of content cut out and will never be adapted.

That’s actually an insane choice lol wtf?

You can actually tell how chopped up these two episodes were if you're paying attention. Like Iino's broken arm at the start, that's a key part of Ishigami's romance arc we would have gotten in season 4. Now it's there and gone with no explanation. There's a line about Hayasaka no longer being with Kaguya before they go to Shirogane's new home, also part of a different arc cut out. They just skipped through dozens of chapters to adapt the ones they liked or felt pushed the main relationship forward, adapted just those, and are going to skip the rest for the movie. It's ridiculous. It's kinda worse that they're still including these little bits in my mind. ESPECIALLY Iino in a sling. That's the most unforgivable part to me. It is crucial to their entire relationship and it's just glossed over. Her reaction to Chika claiming to be dating Ishigami is so harsh BECAUSE of what happens with them at a Christmas party and her injury, yet anime only viewers will never see that. The entire arc is just gone now and everything about Ishigami's possible romance with Iino or Tsubame just suddenly vanishes. Which sucks because it's such a good arc for all three characters.

As a manga reader the adaptation has been excellent so far. People have gripes with missing content but I'm confident the movie will tie up loose ends since it is really 3 or 4 big moments that need adapting with the rest being fluff that can be removed or turned into other ovas (similar to Horimiya which adpated the more SOL chapters after finishing the main storyline. ) I'm also confident a spinoff with Miko, Ishigami and the other side characters will get adapted since this special and the movie will likely focus on the 2 leads. Overall had an amazing time and they hit the major highlights so far, can't wait to see what happens next.

To answer your uncertainty about flights to Japan, I believe there are 5 places from the US you can fly out of depending on the airline - California, Washington, Texas, Illinois, and New York. I believe all the flights range from 11-15 hours going, but can be 8-14 hours coming back. All 5 fly up to and under Alaska and back down; I think the west coast flights are usually straight across the ocean (or at least a less arched pattern), and the others return on roughly the same flight pattern as going.

I mean, the difference is that the Horimiya cut chapters genuinely were just slice of life side stories. We skipped CORE arcs here, you can't just go back without absolutely confusing anyone who hasn't read the manga. I'd have no problem with them skipping most of the chapters they did, but the entire Christmas party arc not even getting some sort of OVA before this is crazy to me. Especially because it's referenced in the very first scene here. It's the biggest arc for Ishigami, the payoff for all the setup of his romance plots, and we may never see it animated and even if it is animated it will be displayed WAY out of context. That's really dumb. It also doesn't help that we already seem to have confirmation that the movie itself is set after graduation, going by the later university character designs. So the movie is skipping straight to the end of the story, which means waiting even longer if they ever do come back to adapt the Ishigami arc (which is not guaranteed). It's just a baffling choice to start his arc in the last full season, but then cut out all the payoff entirely to skip straight to the end of the story. While also showing the aftermath of it out of context anyways.

This is the synopsis 4 the show-As preparations begin for Seisho Music Academy's yearly Seisho Festival, the girls of the 99th class are gearing up to perform their very own rendition of "Starlight," the tragic tale of two goddesses drawn together by the glow of the heavens but destined to be pulled apart, never to meet again. Created to foster the next generation of theatrical talent, this girls’ only school works to improve the singing, acting, and dancing skills of its students. One student is 16-year-old Karen Aijou, an easygoing girl who has dreamed of performing on stage since she was a child. Her love for theater is further invigorated when her childhood friend Hikari Kagura transfers to Seisho Academy. Through her old friend, Karen stumbles upon a secret elevator leading to a massive theater underneath the school. Hosted by a talking giraffe, this arena serves as a battleground where her classmates participate in duels to determine who among them deserves the title of "Top Star," earning them the right to play one of the lead roles in "Starlight." Emboldened by the promise she made with Hikari to someday be stars together, Karen enters these mysterious battles in the hopes of making their dream a reality.
