Would recommend the Beginning of a New Era movie if you guys get a movie slot open sometime…stand alone story and some of the best animation I’ve seen in the past 2 years, it’s basically Dicata’s bullet animation popping off every 10 mins, also one of the characters Agnes Tachyon is somehow beating Reze as best female character of the year so shows the hype around it Also a little darker and trash talk oriented/competitive compared to pretty derby and cin gray

Love them using the final episode setting up the next rival, I also love how Inari One’s starting point is so similar to Oguri’s. She’s a regional racer from a rural area, she’s even racing in Kasamatsu where Oguri started and against girls trained by March’s trainer. She has a lot of little connections to Oguri, despite not being directly tied to her. It makes her potentially rise to the top feel similar in a good way. Oguri is no longer the regional challenger aiming for the peak, she IS the peak and we have to see who rises to face her now. So we find a new regional racer starting her climb. Also, they were definitely trying to convey that Inari briefly tapped into the zone. Not to the same degree, but enough to start recognizing it. Which is CRAZY when you consider she’s racing at a drastically lower competition level than Oguri, yet still hit the zone. Finally, I’ve got to repeat the many, many requests of Uma Musume fans to check out the two movies. The full original series is a heavier commitment (plus season one is a bit mediocre), but Road to the Top and Beginning of a New Era are both rather short watches. They’re absolutely some of the best content the entire franchise has to offer. Beginning of a New Era was literally my second favorite movie I watched in 2025, right behind Chainsaw Man. It needed the perfection of the Reze Arc for ANYTHING to dethrone it. That movie is nothing but pure hype and unreal animation.

The main series just kinda starts a little too weak for me to ever recommend it to people. Season 1 is just kinda mediocre, at best, even though 2 and 3 are really solid. But the Road to the Top and Beginning of a New Era are insanely easy recommendations.

I honestly can't wait for Inari One to meet Oguri in S3 cause they are so different and Oguri is gonna be so confused a😄t first as to why this little umamusume is in her face and I bet it happens when she is eating! Inari is a fox god if I remember correctly so I wonder if that is part of her personality with the fire sparks and all.🤔

Also S3 is confirmed I think and Inari is a big part…these two arcs are basically only half of the Cin Gray manga story that just ended this month

It was nice watching this along with you guys and seeing you appreciate Uma Musume as a series. Hopefully you guys jump into the main one, ONA and movie while waiting for the next cin grey installment. Im gonna leave ya'll with my final facts for this episode: 1. C.B or Mr CB makes her speaking role appearance in this episode. CB is the 1983 Triple Crown winner prior to rudolf making her the 3rd to hold the title. 2. As mentioned by another patron andrew, the heisei big three are Oguri, Inari and Creek. Since Tamamo cross officially retired and the year 1989 was the start of the heisei era, these 3 horses were at the pinnacle of racing during this time. 3. Inari does appear in the main series (not a spoiler) but is more of a background character just like the rest. She has her main spotlight though in Cin grey. 4. To answer sherm's question: An average horse era is usually 2-5 years depending on a lot of factors. Since horses only live till about 30ish, they retire at the age of 4-5 years old and begin their breeding stud/mare duties hoping to carry over their conditioning from their racing days to their next offspring.

20:40 Belno is actually not a real horse per-se. She's based on a horse named "Twin Bee" (hence the two Bs in her hair), but she's also the embodiment of the staff on Oguri's team. Similar to how the trainers are the embodiment of real life trainers, jockeys, and staff. That is a good shout though, as they do have some scenes in the other seasons where two horses that mated IRL interact a lot. You can actually see a horse at 20:44 (white haired one) from New Zealand that Oguri fell in love with when they raced together. He could not stop looking at her before and during the race IRL. They never had a chance to mate though. But we'll get to see Oguri act awkward around her when they meet.

To add to other comments, yes the movie is very hype, but it's a sequel to the 4-episode OVA: Road to the Top. There are some re-occurring characters and I would highly suggest watching that before jumping into the movie.

It's like having to jump through a 6-6.5/10 anime at best to get to peak. At least its only a single cour season though. I can only ever recommend it if it's the first thing people are seeing from the series. After cingray it's kinda a hard sell.
