Excited to watch!

Harmen

Great video, I noticed an error you may be able to correct or anotate on youtube. At 3:31 you say 50k instead of 50 mil.

MrGunn

Dear PDM, I hope you and your family are hale and well and had a great vacation! Ahhh corporate NewSpeak, in the words of Eminem “Blah-badi-boo-blah, blah-blah-badi-bloo-blah!” I ain't hear a word you said: “Hippity hoopla!”. Sadly your dystopian vision of Hasbro not needing people to play D&D, just buy the merch, is on the money. I also agree that tabletop RPGs will probably return to its niche nerd status once the GenXers die out. I feel that the younger generation lacks imagination and wants to be spoon fed electronic media and stories developed by someone else. You are a teacher, do you think kids today lack imagination and flexible thinking? Thanks for bringing us the news that is. Best regards, MrGunn

MrGunn

@BagelMan Ahhh snap, hear the Gunn go off, first out of the stocks! LOL

Terra Jones

I wish my condo was bigger so that I could have one of those GM tables.

Richard W Maxwell

I love the information and the opinions you have. I really enjoy all of your content.

Jon Rennick

Love the James Bond content! I'm also a big fan of the books and movies. What do you think would be a great system for Bond/Jason Bourne?

Terra Jones

Don't feel even remotely bad about doing clickbait. It's awesome it's fine. It's great. I love it all. I did see one YouTuber I think his handle was we love TableTop RPGs make a second channel so that one channel is "we love TableTop RPGs" and the other channel is "you love drama." The faces he makes on the cover of the "you love drama channel" are absolutely hilarious. It's my understanding that partitioning the channel between the drama and the everything else has some effect where the audience for one is recommended that without the algorithm getting confused and thinking you just make some of your videos bad when drama people don't immediately click on the campaign diary. I have literally no idea if that's true or not.

Jon Rennick

Can't say I've tried it. I remember making characters and reading "Top Secret S.I", but never had anyone else who wanted to play it.

steven bray

You're absolutely right about why the D&D movie under performed. I don't go to movies but i would have jumped out of my seat to see a Dragonlance movie.

Lee Dunning

Hmm, I'm on the fence about Theo James. In some pictures he looks like a thin-faced soy boy, but in other shots he looks pretty masculine. I know so little about actors... I just can't say. But I do want a return to a more classic James Bond. I'm tired of them trying to feminize him for a "modern audience". We need fun cool gadgets, imaginative bad guys, tons of action, and zero crying.

Timothy S Wattigny

There was a James Bond ttrpg in one of the few non-luxury brands

Pete Doroshenko

Huzzah to a "bunch of old weirdos with dice" !! Sign me up 😂

Eric Mason

D&D was pretty dead in the mid to late 90's in my area. Lots of other games were played and popular, so a return to that sort of era doesn't bother me.

GregKun

I agree. You can not win a race by community. That is what I think is wrong with DND 5e. Everyone wants to put their grubby paws on it to get brown nose points. Some of it was good. The rest was god-awful. I think Henry Cavill would be an okay Bond. Instead of making him Bond. I think he would make a great recurring Bond villain instead. I would make Henry Cavill play a combination of Gerard Butler from the movie Law Abiding Citizen and Raymond Redington from a TV show that I can not remember the name of but see a lot of clips on YT Shorts. His character would torment Bond by killing his closest contacts in the most unexpected and creative ways. When his character talks shit he backs it up with pile body bags.

Drago Russo

Theo James is a great idea. I personally really enjoyed The Gentlemen. I thought his character was super cool and it was one of my favorite shows of 2024 for sure.

MelodicMethod

ugh, you HAD to mention Poison for the example hair band. The only band I despise more than them is Warrant. *puke emoji*

Walter

This still doesn't look like good news for Hasbro/WotC. It's been said that WotC is the most profitable unit of Hasbro. Following that logic it seems that what, Hasbro's biggest product is now Magic the Gathering?

Bagel-Man

Great video as always Professor

baldrage

One of the best-written RPGs I've ever read. Really captured the atmosphere and vibe of classic bond.

Jeff Love

I disagree that you can't be funny Prof. That story about your son falling in love with the demon girl with the French accent was hilarious. I'd love more stories like those weaved into your videos!

Stu Keller

7:00 ... and I'm a rain D&Dog, too! And I'm all for TTRPGs being the weird sub-culture it always has been. It is a niche interest, and it shouldn't be forced into a culture that doesn't really want it. D&D and other TTRPGs in the '70s and '80s survived and even flourished during times thin and flush because those who loved them DID love them. That made all the difference. It doesn't need to be ultra popular with everyone; never did.

Anthony Johnston

PDM, great video, as we've all come to expect. I think you (and many others in the gaming community) overestimated the amount of gaming "oxygen" that would be sucked out of the community during late 2024 and most of 2025 by the new edition of DnD. I know you were delaying the new expanded Deathbringer until 2026, but I think a variety of factors, including many questionable business and creative decisions by WOTC, have left the market ripe for the picking by new DnD alternatives, especially OSR types like Deathbringer. Many gamers, including more than a few 5e players, are forgoing investing in the new edition, and that leaves plenty of room for new games, especially well-made ones that bring back some of that danger flavor that has been lost since 5e made characters into somewhat unkillable superheroes. Never underestimate WOTC's ability to kill their own momentum. Just my $.02.

Don Bakke

I think Cavill is underrated and would make a good Bond. His performance in The Man from UNCLE (a decent Guy Ritchie film) showed what he can do in that kind of role. That said, I agree he is probably too old to carry Bond for several films. Theo James is one of my top choices. He completely surprised me in The Gentlemen (a spin-off from an excellent Guy Ritchie film). People have also been talking about Aaron Taylor-Johnson. I like the actor in the roles he has been in, but I'm not yet convinced he can play Bond.

Elvis Ramone

Like you suggested, it's a wait and see. I personally might buy the books at fire sale prices, but that's neither here nor there. What was more interesting to me was about the Bond franchise. Personally I do/did like Daniel Craig as Bond, and No Time To Die was weak. Henry Cavil could be better used elsewhere, and Amazon his impressively hit or miss with it's franchise handling.

Terra Jones

My current ttrpg game isn't DND at all it's not even a fantasy RPG. I'm presently running Vampire the Masquerade. We're trying to get to the end game of the storyline. After this game I don't even know if I'm going to run DND. I might do cyberpunk red or something else like that. Or I might help one of my players run Shadowdark. I'm sure I'll come back to d&d eventually but it's not an urgent matter.

John Aitken

Great video, love the bonus content!

Scott

Deathbringer has great ideas, you should listen to him more often lol

Jay

@MrGunn, I have contemplated some of the same thoughts you express here. I'm skeptical of younger generations when it comes to tabletop games as it's so difficult to see them unattached from their electronic devices. I also, certainly hope you are wrong. However, such things have been known to revive themselves in cycles. Perhaps even in an altered or evolved manner such as more electronics used. In cinema both western and superhero movies have faded out only to be revived again at a later time. Such may be the same with tabletop games provided people do not become even more reclusive and antisocial in face to face settings. Sadly, I see a lot of that now days.

Jay

Nicely stated Lee. I loved those movies for exactly the same reasons you express here. Yet, I still here the echo of Critical Drinker when I read "modern audience". So funny! Almost spit out my soda. :D

Jay

Yep! I still laugh at his Angry Dwarf videos. :)

Jay

PDM has mentioned a funny story about playing Vampire the Masquerade in the past. So if you got questions he may have insight there but really you should ask him about what his character did. It was hilarious.

Jay

PDM, I dunno who keeps complaining about your videos but you have mentioned it quite a bit lately. As far as I'm concerned they can go kick rocks. If they don't like you channel there are many others to choose from. Obviously these folks aren't paying attention anyway so I wouldn't let it bother you. Anyway, I don't always have time to catch the video's the day they post but I eventually get around to them and still review some old stuff on YouTube too so keep up the great work. Also, curious about the new Deathbringer. Hope it's going well.

Jay

Oh yeah! I haven't been to a movie theater in a few years but a Dragonlance movie would get a LOT of people out to the movies. I'd bet on it.

Brian Peters

There was a James Bond Jr cartoon in the 90s

Littlestump

I will not spend money on D&D until Hasbro is out of the picture

Firstspear

Great vid & insights. I agree with you on the planned Hasbro path forward - licensing and digital subscription. Licenses are terrific for bean counters since it's basically a paper transaction for money. Recurring subscriptions are never going away - imagine how much more Microsoft made from their shift to subscription vs a new edition every 5 years. In retrospect - the D&D movie probably would have been better as a series in a streaming platform. To your point - better opportunity for character development. Lastly - did you see Cubicle 7 is planning a new system for Warhammer Old World?

Justin Watson

They are missing so many bets not getting a DragonLance series done. Chronicles and Legends are six ripe seasons of TV just dying to be made.

Walter Barr

The challenge of anyone who makes anything is that there is always someone who thinks they know how to do it better. I get it. You are clearly someone to whom the source material matters and who works to create good content. It’s certainly why I subscribe. I can’t tell you how to deal with the “arm chair quarterbacks”. I can tell you I appreciate you mate. Frequently, you are the voice of reason in the sea of sensationalism. The considered content. A great many people go online to be inflamed not informed. That’s not me and I suspect, that’s not your people sir. You’re going through a traumatic period PDM, cancer, the loss of your friend and the perceived “decline” in popularity. Your integrity is your commerce. It is what attracted me to your content. I’m sorry this comment has become an essay but I cannot afford to lose one more man to the mire of the mediocre. You are truely appreciated for both what you do and how you do it. I know it may be seen that I’m being overly dramatic. I don’t feel this is a small thing. Remember: print it and put it on your wall: Better to write for yourself and have no fans than to write for your fans and have no self. Thank you for your work mate. ✔️May all your rolls be twenties.🤣

Joel Allard

Love the hot take on Bond. What a monumental cultural icon. Thanks PDM. I often RP with Sean Connery, "I mustache you a question".

Jim Baird

John Wick 4 came out the week before Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Super Mario Bros. came out the week after.

MrGunn

@Brian Peters Sounds like great fodder for a Venture Brothers episode.
