Just got back from NTRPG con which ran me just under $1000 all-in. Blowing the cash on something like GDF would only be something I'd do if I got a terminal cancer diagnosis. Not to mention that only playing fantasy RPGs is boring. I need my sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, and cosmic horror fixes as well. That said, No shade on anyone that prefers the "higher quality" experience of the GDF type of experience.
