I really like your approach to characters. I don’t like the power gamer type build where people focus solely on the game mechanics to try to buff up their stats. I much prefer designing a character that makes sense, that has some things they are good and some things they aren’t, and actually doing the role play part of RPGs. I feel like the stories that come from that make for a much better story.

Love it when you spout lore, Prof. I came from playing AD&D myself but we tired of it because of the bookkeeping. As a result Im all the way to the right. So are new players, none of them have opened any rulebooks. Im wary of scaring them away with the accounting.

Im in a law firm so if I wanted rules/system mastery, Id just go to the office on a weekday. Not the gaming table.

My players often have a wide range of character ideas and I need to figure out how to get them together. It isn’t that their character concepts aren’t interesting to me, or that they don’t fit into my campaign, but they don’t feel like they come from the same town, and certainly don’t seem like they would be related. How do you make it that your characters have these types of connections?

Great information and I will put it to good use. I can also see that Players may have condensed Character Sheets yet the GM will need to keep copious notes regarding character backgrounds. Such items as best friends, love interests, flaws, transgressions, and former adversaries can come up from time to time.
