Initiative Extended Cut

This video is about Initiative Extended Cut

I recently came across a group initiative system I liked. All players and the DM roll dice. Those that roll higher than the DM go before the monsters and those that roll lower go after. The players sort out individual PC order within that framework depending on the tactical situation of that moment. Players re-roll on ties.

⦁ Party of 4 or less - roll Simultaneous Initiative. ⦁ DM & PC's will roll for Initiative/Attack at the beginning of every combat round. ⦁ PC's have 1 minute to decide their plan before rolling. ⦁ Players & DM must Declare actions before roll. ⦁ A 1D20 roll will determine both initiative & attack results. ⦁ Player 1 has AC 15. DM has AC 12. Player 1 rolls 17 & DM rolls 14. Player 1 wins Initiative as well as Hitting DM. DM goes second but fails to HIT. After working out the kinks and play testing this way, I find it faster and more engaging. Players do work as a team to plan out their moves. Nobody is waiting for their turn. That being said, I do use Party Initiative for 5 or more players. Thanks for all your ideas PDM.
