Hi PDM and Adhesive Tom, Apologies, this is a complicated one! I've been asked to DM a game for a group of my son's friends. The group will most likely be around seven players with little-to-no experience of RPG's. My regular groups are 3-4 players so I will most likely use Deathbringer rules for their ease and simplicity. What type of adventure do you think would be most suitable for this sort of game? I was thinking a simple 5 room dungeon crawl or perhaps a tavern being attacked by werewolves/zombies/bandits or whatever. Also would pregenerated characters be better in this case? PS - I have both your Macdeath and Frankenstein modules. Would either of those be suitable for new players? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hey PDM, and Adhesive Tom, I hope your day is going well! I got some more questions for both of you! Keep up the great work! 1). Pepsi or Coke? 2). PDM, and Adhesive Tom, what are your thoughts on the old D&D cartoon? 3). I know you both disliked the sequel trilogy of Star Wars, (I do as well) but what did you think of episode 7 when it came out?

Jimminee Krunkle

After seeing the trailer for the up and coming dnd movie did it change you opinion of the movie ?

MrGunn

Egad man, do you even watch PDM's videos! Clearly PDM is a briefs man who prefers Diet Coke. <8oD :D

Yellahammer Tabletop Crafts

PDM which sci-fi rpg do you prefer? I am interested in Traveller, because I missed out on playing it back in the 80s. I like the feel of reading the setting. It reminds me of Firefly or the Outer Rim in Star Wars.

1) What is your business analysis of OneBookShelf's acquisition of Roll20? I think it was a very astute business move by them. OBS owns DriveThruRPG and along with DMs Guild has access to a ton of legacy D&D and other content. I assume DTRPG will also want to fold its own also ran VTT, Astral, into Roll 20, with a short learning curve, it should be easy for the Astral Devs to start work on Roll20 content. 2) Following in the same vein, now that Wizards of the Coast (WoTC) and Hasbro (aka WHaTC) have purchased D&D Beyond and Virtual Table Tops are very clearly a thing now: how do you think WHaTC is going to acquire their own VTT and build synergies with D&D Beyond? They could make their own investment, but IT and IT expertise is not cheap; I know, I work in that industry, plus building your own platform takes time and if it sucks WHaTC could blow up two products, the VTT and the D&D Beyond product (via losses of investment revenue in the VTT, pissed of D&D Beyond customers who drop the product, and impact to their reputation.) Will WHaTC acquire a VTT, possible, but the only remaining VTT really worth having being 'turn key ready' is Foundry VTT. The other option open to WHaTC is to lease the capability via an exclusive deal with an existing provider. I can foresee WHatC investing in Roll20, offering high quality current D&D 5e content via an exclusive subscription with tie ins to D&D Beyond and Adventurers League. Roll20 could be a very good fit for WHaTC, it gives them access to a popular and established VTT, an existing audience base, and an existing business relationship i.e. OBS/DTRPG/DMs Guild. The downside is Roll 20's support of competing RPG products, WHaTC traditionally wants to have all eyes on herself. Although any lease could make the WHaTC board and accountants happy b/c they could invest minimal capital to start seeing early ROI from a potentially large an on-going revenue stream, with no labour and only OpEx costs on the books. Note there is a very outside chance that OBS acquired Roll20 as a speculative land grab, and could turn around and re-sell Roll20/Astral to WHaTC for big money, but I only see this as a remote possibility. What prognostications do you have for us PDM? 3) Finally, after having watched the recent 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' trailer, (No, there is not enough Chris Pine scent to cover the stench of that turd), Do you see the D&D movie being a success with what appears to be the 10-14 crowd and what WHaTC marketing tie-ins do you foresee with this product: miniatures, books, adventure modules, a new canon thieves guild group a la 'Acquisitions Incorporated'? Personally I see the movie being a flop, but no one has ever lost money underestimating the taste of the public. What does your Palantir show you PDM? PS. Bonus question: What is Deathbringer's take on the D&D movie trailer? I would LOVE to hear his thoughts on the matter! :D

Professor, if you could go back in time to when you were just a wee teaching assistant and give yourself one piece of gaming advice, what would it be?

Josh Hemmersbach

Professor, you've described how your D&D games and Deathbringer are very WFRP inspired, and you used to play WFRP. Have you every ran a RPG adventure set in Mordheim? I never got the chance to play the Mordheim game and my group doesn't like skirmish games much, so I'm considering writing an adventure set in Mordheim. Any advice or recommendations?

Matt Thompson

What bands did you and your gaming friends like to listen to back in the day, and have you ever had any characters or adventures that were influenced by the musicians/albums/songs you liked?

MrGunn

Hey PDM & Tom: Thanks for your responses, I especially appreciated Tom's response, about Marvel movies: They are like westerns from the 60's. Well said! I have a lessons learned, obvious when I thought about it: Keep questions short and succinct, and no multi-part questions. D'Oh!
