I love the idea. Back in my AD&D DM days I asked my grandpa to make me about a hundred 5x5x2 cm wood blocks that I would rearrange in whatever way I wanted to simulate a terrain. I think your plates are really a step up, I´d only make them a little bigger to make maneuvering easier.

Scott Spears

Love it. When can we see the bowels of Piggly Wiggly.? ;)

MrGunn

Great video! As usual I loved your Bonus Material more than the main video itself. In fact, I think your next video should be based on this one's Bonus Material: Using your new UDT and Theater of the Mind. DB you are witty indeed; build my own case... pfft..LOL

Masterhit

I agree. Show a a sample encounter for the plebs who don’t subscribe. I guess you do cover this in some old vids but it’d be interesting with the new small udt

Jay

Makes much more sense to explain the center of the circle is where the spotlight is on the party or at least the light source in a dark area. Especially to those who haven't seen your UDT videos or know how it is used.

Andrew

Fantastic---I've started using my own versions of UDT in my own game, with Hirst Arts flag stone and cobblestone tiles for the floors. And then a general wilderness one for outdoors. It's amazing how convenient this idea is, and how much it adds to the table top experience without taking up space where character sheets, books, drinks and chips all go. Also, in my own crafting journey, it helps gives me limitations on what I decide to build. If it can't fit on a UDT spotlight circle, I don't need it for my game. So no need to develop plans for and cast then build Castle Ravenloft to 28 mm scale. My players really love this new aspect to our games. Thanks ,much for this idea. Best and cheers!

Lee Caddick

You know, it makes so much more sense now that you used the spotlight descriptor!

robert fransgaard

Super episode. Maybe worth mentioning the UDT version you made with foam core board for people who came get XPS - it just gives more flexibility on size

Stephen Kotowych

Great video. Like the mini UDT! I found the black text for the instructions hard to read, however. The how-to popped better when it was yellow. Not sure if there's time to change before it goes live on YouTube

MrGunn

What a sweet story, your grandfather sounds like a cool dude.

Craig Sutherland

I really love the UDT focused videos and this one was no different - I want to try to make one of the big UDT's and if successful I will certainly make a number of smaller Ikea ones for modular purposes. PDM makes it look so easy, but I don't think Ill be able to make it look nearly as good, but at least I will give it my best shot! Thanks for doing these kind of videos PDM!

Spencer Wright

This is super. I look forward to a few more in the rotation. Well done.

Adrian Webster

This is cool. I would love a bit more explanation of how you handle larger combats where the party may spread out to face separate enemies. Effectively separate spotlights as you put it.

Joseph Blondino

Those small ones would excel with 15mm minis.

Daniel Defazio

If the enemies are melee, they both go in the circle. But I might use two circles--with the understanding the characters in in separate locations and cannot interfere with one another--even if someone dies.

Skyhammer

You make me want to retire so I can do stuff like this all day! Nice.

Ruben Benes

Nice to see a crafting video again :) Think I'll try this when my next payment day rolls around!

Bill Carroll

This video would benefit from voice over of your written instructions.

Is anyone else disappointed that this is not a rules-light game where the players are lost inside the labyrinthine Castle Ikea from which they must find the means of escape while apparitions of treasures and useful items try to distract them? I've often thought that cork should be a more useful crafting medium, but usually when I've seen it it has looked flat and cheesy. I guess it just needed more layers of paint, because this looks great!

Kevin

I'd run that for Halloween. You could use "Horrorstor" as the basis for the plot.

knghtbrd

That sounds freakin' hilarious, will definitely look into that!

Dave Ciappio

I absolutely love these. I knocked out 3 of them in around 2 hours and honestly they were perfect for a 4 hour convention slot that I ran. EVERYTHING took up minimum space in my back pack and I was able to set and reset each scene within a few seconds.
