Okay, I talked about having a system to my original Akumi animations. Systems are why as one animator I could create art and animation for the series in a relatively short time. I haven't been using a system the past year which is why each time I go to make an animation, the time needed varies...

NO MORE! System building time! It's time to build an updated system starting with the character models. It doesn't mean these won't change over time like my art style always does. But having a foundation means I have a starting point everytime I have an new idea. After the character models, I'll work on systems for: FX, background and even scene setups

Drawing my hyper lanky, thin character style is fun for pinups but makes animating more difficult. It's harder to animate quickly with art pieces you can barely select with your pointer. :P  So I tried to find a happy medium which created almost a "Frozen-esk" looking character model. 5.5 heads tall so it'll be easy to fit full body animations in to a frame and still see recognize facial expressions.

I want to go back to my simple 2-3 shades of color. Hair will be solid flat shapes but that doesn't mean extra details can't be implemented for some shots. If you remember "Ren & Stimpy" painted cells.

Akumi Male Model Base coming tomorrow. After that maybe some models other body types: heavy, muscular, tall, short.

Onwards and Upwards!

A yeah shorter than your standard hero, but so much more sass xD glad to see a turnaround!

Is there anything you've done differently on this body that is new in approach? Also I notice the eyes are different, I like them. Quite alien though this also leads me to believe this isn't akumi.

Hmmm... I'd say I spent more time contemplating how long it would take me to freehand draw this. Because I want the animation to have a more keyframe animation feel, it needs to be practical to draw without assets. What does that mean? Simplified shapes. Head is for the most part oval, torso a rectangle, feet triangles. Even the hands are geometric with slight curves. But again things can always change. The real test is when I actually make animations with this model. I'll find out what works and what doesn't quickly. Yeah it's not Akumi. I like Asian-esk eyes. I really like it when the pupil takes up most of the eye with very eye little whites showing. To me it's really cute. Almost like button eyes. It also makes animating the eye simple. It's one style I'll use but I might vary up the eye styles for certain characters. Example, the Glory Gros would benefit more from the more disney-esk eyes for extreme expressions. The characters from the Playground fight are another example. The facial expressions are important. But it all has to be put into practice before I can make any real judgements on what direction I want to go concretely.

I'm actually really happy to see something like this. I think this is what you did for oversoul? With the human template and then going from there. This is cool! Love that you're doing it with Akumi as well. But yeah, would be nice to have different body types as well. Aka, curvy, muscular, etc. I know what I am about to ask you is probably a really tough question, but do you have any approximations regarding when Akumi Wars (game) would be complete? :o

Thanks! I actually spoke to Adam yesterday. He's been really busy over the holidays with AQW and AQ3D but said he's going to make a plan to finish up the Akumi Wars coding after Christmas. We're gonna talk soon after that to figure out a plan of attack. So we're getting close. He said the programming is ready, it just needs to be implemented. I told Adam, the game has to be quality, I don't care how long it takes. I'm not willing to release something half baked so when it's ready, it'll be the best work we can put into it.

Damn! Hey that's nice man. I don't know how I'm able to help, but if you need someone for testing purposes I'm always there for ya. I'm glad to see that you prefer quality work over rushed things. I'll continue to support you, I think that's a good way of helping out

Much appreciated! :) The first step will be getting a game demo together. So everyone who's been supporting me here also supports the game and will be the first to play all versions of the game. I can at least promise some sort of playable version happening next year.

Thanks! Gonna start doing this with all my current and new characters again. It looks cool and is actually really useful. 😆
