I’m so excited!!! Yaaay! I’m looking forward to get home from work and enjoy this!

Great tutorial Ian! I was wondering if it would be possible for you to turn on statistics as I'm curious as to what kind of polycounts are in your scenes

Diego Nossa

Great tutorial Ian! I can't believe it's an entire shot from scratch in 40mins! Love these!

hot_stuff

how are the feet reacting to the rocks so perfectly by the way set your res to 100%

Da5id

Maaaan - you make this all look so easy. Love watching your content.

aviphyr

those beginning establishing shots are so good! love the sense of scale they convey.

Dang! I'm planning a movie with a big cave sequence (and also dynamite) and this came at a great time. I've made some of my own caves in blender, but man the photoscan that you just did looks so much better to me. Might need to take a little roadtrip to search for a good scan...or just peruse sketchfab if i'm feeling lazy.

Hey Ian! Question for you. Is there any reason you append your Rust bot rather than Link? I'm trying to figure out best options for pipeline for assets. Not sure how much you mess around with Linking and Library Overrides or if you have any tips there.

bpype

I love the freedom you have there Ian 🤓

Sebas

Years of experience in action! Fantastic!

Zeke Faust

I love that creamsicle shirt!

And the box gets a label... D Y N A M O [ahh! backspace] I T E D R E A M 😂

Hey Ian, did you render the streak in an Eevee scene then comp it back into Cycles?

IanHubert

HAHA! I only noticed that in the edit and was like YUP that's some muscle memory hahaha

IanHubert

Hey David! I did it in Cycles, which occasionally gives some bonkers render times (ESPECIALLY compared to eevee), but I have an unhealthy avoidance of doing multiple render passes, so I bit the bullet :P

IanHubert

OH! Yeah there's definitely a more organized way to do it, but getting it optimized usually means a healthy bit of setup (getting a nice flexible rig), and since he's just going to be in a few one-off shots, I figured appending was fine. Also, 90% of the time when I try to get clever with linking I end up jumping back and forth between the two projects that I end up appending it anyways :P ALTHOUGH- you mention Library Overrides. I haven't messed around with that, and it sounds like it could be a huge help!! I'll look into that, thanks! :D

Michael

Hey Ian, you mentioned Polycam in the video. Is Polycam your preferred 3d scanning app at the moment?

chriskon

Love these kind of videos where you build stuff!

Jed

Love the start to finish videos I think I speak for a lot of people when I say it really helps. Also would you ever consider releasing ship assets like the phaeton or a start to finish making it

Ryan game

this is my favorite series. you da best

I Like it Hardcore Tv

Guy turns into a light streak wielding a guitar, flips into the air, runs up a building to smash another guy, breaks the floor inside some building the camera flys down with them breaking each floor... then Ian says: "the only thing to really note are the light trails"? Very modest lol Give the Pateons some spoil :) I like spoils

Ian, I'm just getting ready to do a bunch of scanning of 3 to 5 story city buildings for a short I'm working on. I know you've probably said this a thousand times but what would you suggest I use for capturing them?

Manuel Grewer

Every time I get fed up with my very sluggish Blender learning process, another Ian Hubert video comes along to reignite the fire. Your teaching style is so awesome. Please enlighten us some more!

Zachary Porlier

Do you ever use an Empty as a Focus point or to direct camera movement? I started to use it as the cameras focus so I can do rack focusing, but then I realized o can use it as a track too so I can duplicate a motion then offset it with noise to give the camera that “reacting to the movement look”

Sai

Hey @Ian so for years I have been trying to understand your workflow from Blender to a grading software. I know you did a video talking about gamma curves and other stuff but can you do a video where you talk about your grading and colouring techniques? I know that some of them are not a free softwares but with Blender filmic colour space I really struggle to get nice colours. I know ACES has some ways of working with DaVinci Resolve... but anyways I hope you do put a video out talking about this one day :)

Ian a little trick from games stuff for those patches (like the gravel and the rocks) - using a big soft proportional editing hand, grab the middle and pull it into a little mound shape; then you can more easily have detail poking out of places and clipping through rocks and so on without the edge seam showing, cause it drops off to underneath the thing you're clipping it through. Can save needing to pull in trim bits.

Nice

stepping in as a new patreon and getting to watch all your "old" tuts is like listening to jimi hendrix for the first time again! Legend, Bro! Inspiring AF!

Hey, Ian. That was so sick I had to wipe my monitor for fear of infection. Any chance of a tutorial for any part of the spoiler?
