Going a bit fast and loose, but we cover some good ground in this one! Putting together a digital matte painting of a city from (nearly) scratch. If anyone wants the buildings I made in the video for anything, here's a project file with them and the geonodes setup here. I didn't clean things too much, but it should be fairly self explanatory.  Here's the asset download page for the harbor video texture from a few years back. And here's the new city shimmer video texture I've been using. And a scaled down version (the other one's a bit big.) Although be warned! The lights are exceptionally shimmery in this one. It's not subtle. I thought the more shimmery the better, but this is... perhaps too shimmery for a lot of uses. Also this video's sort of a sequel to this old video! (lots of sillhouettes and video textures).

Modeling a Distant City

Going a bit fast and loose, but we cover some good ground in this one! Putting together a digital matte painting of a city from (nearly) scratch. I've got some assets and links over on the patreon post!

Thanks @Ian! Great result! Looking forward to learning... Love from London! 👊🏻

Brilliant thank you, that was an experience, I love the floating robot, but disappointed that it does not have a "how's my hovering" sticker with a Int Phone Number

You had me at fast and loose!

hey Ian! great video:) i don't know if it can interest you but now with loops in geometry nodes it's possible to instance collections while avoiding intersections and overall have even distance between the points! i can see to make a prototype in the afternoon and show it !

Although this is a great new asset, I think this tutorial just may be the next Ian Hubert masterpiece. It has a "in the room where it happened vibe" that inspires the viewer to do better.

Thanks Ian, for again giving us some awesome, sometimes 'lazy' but very, very effective techniques, like the emission ground-plane for that city 'underlighting' and many others.

One Aspiring Artist

I made something similar a few months back to make a small slum/fishing town. Making cities with Geometry nodes is fun when you figured out how scattering works

Tardsmat

Using geometry nodes to instantiate objects like that is so smart, I've been doing it with particles still

Hi, Ian! Can you do tutorial about cloth simulation? And probably software like "Marvelous Designer" in combination with blender and animations on characters from your pack or from Mixamo. Thanks!

As an architect the phrase "there is really only so many ways you can make a square look interesting", really resonated with me haha

Render Revolution

Thats crazy Ian, some of the things you do and the way you go about certain things blows my mind. It opens my mind up to think outside the box too. Keep up the awesome work bro 🤜🤛💯

Late to the party here (just joined the Patreon!), but those black levels are TOTALLY different, I'm with you, Ian! That would drive me nuts if I couldn't fix that. :D
