Whole bunch of stuff. Ooofff this was a bigger video than I expected! I kept thinking of information I forgot to add! For example: A collision object can affect cloth sims and particles, but not rigid bodies-  and a force field can affect everything! But I really just need to post this video and move on to other things, so here we go!! Also realizing I should experiment more with using the "Connect - Point" type constraint instead of just relying on having everything just explode with the "Start Deactivated" maneuver. Oh well. I'm actually pretty excited- I feel like I should have been using rigid body stuff way more over the years; it's great for mechanical rigging!

Half 1 on the morning. Now I need strong coffee.

These shots are really coming along Ian! It's super helpful to see how you block out everything before you start adding the details. Can't wait to see the final product

Found And Explained

Oh man that was entertaining. It goes totally in a different direction halfway through and I was here for it! Kinda a metaphor for rigid body sims hey! You never know what your going to get

Will Tejeda

Seattle winter lol I've been out here for about a year and a half now

Lukas Sprehn

THE STICK MAN? FINALLY????? I can’t believe you’re doing one of those goofy guys in Dynamo finally?!?!?

Lukas Sprehn

Imagine if the cab went through there at first because it is old and so has old GPS road maps. But the , it just gets annoyed and doesn’t wanna correct itself lol.

Lukas Sprehn

Ohhh chiiimes. I thought you meant cymbals like the big saucers of brass you bang together in the orchestra haha.

IanHubert

No I did!!! I still want to do it, too, like a big gong/cymbal store hahaha- I just realized windchimes would be a better way of showing Rigid Body stuff

IanHubert

YES I KNOW! Always feels so weird to have an idea floating around for a decade and finally get to use it!

Travis Park

Hey Ian! Nice video, I have a recommendation for you for a future video. I've been wondering how I could approach a close-up/macro scene sort of like how scenes where Ant-Man is shrunk are. I would love to see your approach to the task!

Marc Diprose

Anyone else say ‘rubber ducks’ beforehand?😀

IanHubert

Ah thanks Travis! And oooo- Like, just any small scene in general, or specifically a Honey I Shrunk The Kids type deal with a tiny person running around?

conorsvfx

I think the key to this is detail in your textures and getting the camera settings right. Set the focus distance to your subject and reduce the F-stop in the camera so you get very blurry backgrounds. In my last job i worked a lot with microscopes and you'd be surprised how much dirt and hair there is at micro scale. Scratches are also quite big as well. Good luck!

Markus Schnugg

You should do a booth with pre-assembled houses of cards packaged in plastic shrinkwrap.

Travis Park

Hmm, really any scene where the camera gets too close for photoscan detail/resolution. Like either a really small dude running around or a scene where a rock or some other natural element gets really close to the camera.

Travis Park

Haha, i like this approach because it means i can hide some crimes with blur lol. But seriously, I'll see what i can do, thanks!

Willis

Awesome video, love this style

J McNulty

Absolutely loooove the chaos in this video, it was very enjoyable. It's nice to know I'm not alone in feeling super chaotic when facing burn out or writers block with things. Keep up the wild Ian!

Wolfers

WOOO! more awesome xmas presents! Thank you its just what i wanted too :D

Roman Kovalev

Minute 25 - I'm literally laughing loud :DDD ahahaha

Roman Kovalev

Ian, you're an amazing teacher! All in a most right order!

Clint Shelton

Holy shit... this is the best video EVER!!!!! 100% pure Ian! We found jokes in the back yard; made Port Orchard look even cooler that Ian already has (RIP South Sound Cinema); learned some things about making Roux; AND on top of all that we got some great lessons on Blender physics! AND THERE WERE SOUND EFFECTS!!! I will say that when you first mentioned Wind Chime Monger with a head piece I immediately thought of an Australian Cork Hat WITH WIND CHIMES!!! I don't know if links are allowed in the comments but here is the hat in all its glory on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cork_hat I know whatever you come up with will be monumentally more cooler. I am just glad to be adding to the creative process 8-)

yo ian would love to hear what you think about chairs for working & your opinions on standing while working setups.

That rendering segment was quite enjoyable
