Discord - New Patreon supporter perk! (Patreon)

Hey guys!

We've finally setup an InRangeTV Discord server and associated a role with the $5 and above Patreon level supporters.

This means that people in "The Muscle" and "The Starchamber" (or above) now should receive an invite via Discord to join the InRangeTV server.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, I'm new to Discord so this is a learning experience for me.    It's our goal that this perk will afford fans of InRangeTV a more valuable collaboration space to discuss our content, or anything else (within reason, of course!).

Please let me know how this works for you guys and I'm all ears in regards to suggestions on how to improve, or what else to do, with this Discord integration.

Seriously, I'm always thinking about ways to reward you guys...and hopefully between the giveaways, the audio podcasts, meetups (when possible) and Discord, (along with the videos, of course), you're enjoying being a part of this project with us!

I use discord quite a bit, its a very nice program. Be sure to create several different chat and voice channels for various topics. I would suggest for chat to have ones for C&R guns, modern guns, music, TV shows, videos, history, etc just so there are specific places to categorize most of the content you think will be posted. Also, have a few various voice channels so people can have a discussion about politics, guns, and some other people teaming up in a video game. You can hit me up if you need help.

Is there perhaps another way to gain access to the Discord than using the Patreon integration? I'm keen on neither letting Patreon access my full server list, as I don't see why they'd _need_ that, nor letting them accept instant invites blindly on my behalf. I can see well meaning ideas behind these, but in this age of rapidly diminishing privacy and self governance, I think these kinds of things should be more thoroughly considered. I'm pretty confident Karl can see my point here.

Nice! Can't wait to get invited. Do we need to send in our discord details? I am somewhat familiar with the admin side so I can help with that if needed. Highly recommend disabling the "@everyone" thing except for admins/trusted mods.

How are we getting invited through discord? I don't know of any way to connect patreon and discord.

I'm a big discord user so this sounds great. Except that patreon's discord integration is a little... Intrusive for my taste. If there isn't another option I guess I could suck it up and use it, or use my bot account.

Oh and I'm not wanting to skirt the pledge level requirement. In my view that's completely fair and I immediately raised my pledge to $5 when I found the rewards beneficial. I can also see how a regular invitation link would be a problem with it rather unavoidably getting misplaced at some point and thus negating the prerequisite conditions. Then again personal one-time invitation per request of an eligible patreon would be an undue burden with checking for the prerequisites and even just for generating and distributing all the links. Unfotunately I do not know of a(nother) way to reliably automate this. That said, I'm not ready to give the Patreon Discord integration the permissions it desires and will for now remain OotL, but I'll keep my pledge up in hopes this gets resolved later. Discord behaves like a community chat room. it also allows for voice communication.

If you guys are wondering how to get on, in patreon go to Settings>Account then you will see the discord integration button. You might want to download the discord program first btw.

Will the invites be e-mailed, or sent directly through discord? Some patrons (myself included) used a different email address for discord than they did for patreon, or have their privacy settings such that they cannot receive invites or messages from strangers.

Am I correct in thinking that we are going to get another message telling us how this works. I got the app and set it up, but not sure how to reach iRangeTV's server.......or if reaching iRangeTV's server is even what I should be trying doing.
