*Watch in 1080p and with headphones and subtitles!**It's supposed to be in 1440p but after 36 hours YouTube still haven't fully rendered to that setting! (apparently a fairly widespread issue at the moment)Here it is, the eagerly anticipated mission across Norway, my chance to put the ghosts of Wales behind me and finally succeed in crossing a country in a straight line. The vast majority of this 17 mile journey would be devoid of the farmers, hedges, brambles and fences that littered the Welsh countryside, but where it lacked in those things it would more than make up for in vast lakes, rugged mountains, mystical forests and slimy swamps. Join me on a logistically challenging, nerve rattling adventure through the wilderness of northern Norway and let's see if I'd be flying home completed, or defeated.Big thanks to all of you guys for helping to make this happen. There's no way I could have afford those pricey flights / rental car without the Patreon money, so thank you all!

I attempted to cross NORWAY in a completely straight line. (PART 1)

Edmo

yes

ZackC__

3 minutes in, and I'm already loving it haha

Conor

You being able to do adventures like this is exactly why I am a patron. I can’t wait to watch this later on with a cold can of Guinness after my wife goes to bed!

Sam Grandon

Stoked on this and thrilled to be a new patron!

Adam Latimer

Amazing! Just need to wait for my gf to get home so we can watch it together. Thanks!

Tyler Wrage

Amazing! Going to watch it now.

Niki Worrall

I've been looking forward to this more than I did the chrimbo day film on BBC 1 in 1993. Amazing.

Striderw124

Alright, a new #straightline series!! Why is your video format 4:3 instead of 16:9? Is it a thing you do or technology limitations? Keep up the awesome work!

William

GeoWizard discord server?

Thomas Albion

Brilliant first part, looking forward to the next. Nice to have something to brighten my day in 2020! :)

Vitalis Spiridis

Amazing editing with this one, loving it already. Keep it up Tom!!!!!!!!!

Tyler Wrage

Just finished watching, absolutely fantastic! Instant classic. Huge props to Verity for being such a trooper through this as well.

Russell Parker

You have such a flair for story telling my dude. This was a thrill!

Ian Tomlinson

Well, you've done it again Tom. Cant wait for more. Those boggy lake beds are horrible!

Henrik Duemke

This is great! Thanks Santa Tom. Early Christmas present! Cheers from Duesseldorf. I’m pretty sure you’ll know where it is. Cause you’re the geoguesser!

Eilon EJL

Tom what an adventure, thank you for bringing us along! And huge kudos to Verity for being such a trooper, her job didn't seem easy at all. Will share with everyone I know once it's public!

Daniel Bohrer

OHhh that cliffhanger! Can't wait for part 2! :D

Nikolaj

Can't wait to watch it!! Thank you for making this content, it's honestly some of the best in YouTube, and it makes me proud to be a supporter on here! :)

Niko

So this time instead of almost being hit by a car, you decide to reverse it by almost hitting someone yourself. Smart thinking :D

Sarah McLaughlin

This is awesome so far! Props to Verity too for all the kayak-dragging!

Simon Moos

Holy shit, you brought gloves this time! Looking forward to this series :)

Louis Gardner

I audibly gasped when I saw the email for this video! It's amazing, so happy to watch you adventure again <3

Jens Hegland

5:44 "That is epic." That is ten minutes or so from where I grew up. That brought a smile to my face. Eagerly awaiting next weeks episode.

François Sreeves

This is brilliant! Both of you are so resilient to even attempt something most would consider mad or foolish! I cant wait for the next parts in the series! Well done Man!

Erik W

Such a good start - I'm so glad I have something to look forward to every week now!

Alex

Yes! i love this series so much, thank you for the amazing content Tom :)

Joe Marsh

Verity is an absolute trooper! Got a keeper there Tom!

Jack

Great video. Can’t wait to see next weeks

Jack

Verity is a trooper

Viniter

I always figured it's an artistic choice. I'm pretty sure most action cams these days do 16:9 by default. I think it's delightfully retro, just like the music.

Viniter

Verity saving the day as always. I really enjoy the off-the-line shots, it adds a bit of perspective. I'm on the edge of my seat for the next episode, I hope you didn't drown!

Jake Stohr

Verity must really love him

Leyaro .

Tom, you're an absolute legend. This stuff's amazing!

James Stewart

Absolutely love it big man, can't wait till next week

Stacky

I am SO fucking excited to watch this.

Daniel Forssten

Great start! Having hiked through plenty of northern Sweden and Norway, that terrain alternating between boulders, arctic birch tree patches, bogs and dried-up rivers is fairly representative. The only part missing is a trove of cloudberries.

Ryan Seliger

Tom you're a mad man. I was nervous for you the entire episode, and I'm going to be nervous until it's all well and over!!! Can't wait to se e the rest, and well done mate

Adam Forziati

Wait, was there a separate “survival video with Ben” which was uploaded somewhere?

Luke

Wife up Verity Tom

stijn van bemmel

Amazing!! I already loved the start of this adventure, also because you show that you can still have an amazing adventure during Covid.

Leo Niemi

Quick question to Tom and everyone interested in the topic: In general, what should - in your opinion - be the distribution of land mass on either side of a line on "Straight Line Mission Across 'Any Country'"? I've been scouting lines across Finland (as a Finn myself), and the only realistically doable lines are to be found on the very northern part of the country, where you find these thins slabs of land. I feel though, that since 99% of the country's land mass would be to the south of these lines, this wouldn't count as going "across" a country. So I'm proposing and unofficial rule for "Straight Line Missions Across A Country": the line should go through a country at a point, where the distribution of a the country's total (mainland) land mass should be 75/25% at the most. What do you think about this? Very inspiring work again as always!

M Muno

GET IN!

Marte Kjelsberg

Oh, this is soooo good, absolutely brilliant! Also, very proud of myself for having guessed approx. where your line would be 😁. Roll on next Friday!

Captain Lightning

Glad to see you doing another straight line mission. Was waiting for this for so long. I have one question: isnt it kinda cheating to have ur gf carry stuff when it cant be carried on the straight line. Anyway, i cant wait for part 2

Luca

Did you die 👀👀

Stephen Scofield

Man, been looking forward to this for ages and it hasn't disappointed! Shame I cannot binge them all in one go like I did with the original two!

Johan Roos

You should have teamed up with some local character for better intel. I'm sure it's not the first time the lakes dry up in summer! Good job though, looking forward to episode 2!

Dominic Massarotti

This stuff is what Patreon is for, no doubt about it. Damn brilliant.

Matthew Noyes

Love this content! Brings me back to the golden age of YouTube when small creators just made GREAT STUFF. Keep up the awesome work and shout out to the G.O.A.T Verity!

geowizard

Hmm yeah I think it depends. It should be down to discretion really, I don't think a set percentage is the key, there are so many different shapes and sizes, but i totally agree, lopping off the edge of something is not ideal, such as the southern tip of sweden, which ive been considering..

geowizard

cheers mate! haha no I don't think so at all! I am always on the line, besides, wouldn't be possible otherwise!

enmariushansen

Great stuff. We were talking at home about how we'd do a mission like this here in Norway, and here you are! I'm anxious to see your solution. I've hiked quite a bit in the area, and its not at all flat! Hit me up next time if you need anything from Trondheim to Tromsø.

George

Shout out to Tom George and Michael watching over a putanesca, banging vid, tunes slap differently...will play at the club when they open!

Joe Hetherington

Are the patreon videos in this only available in the £5.50 tier?

Christopher Macdonald

Brilliant stuff as always Tom. You've definitely got a keeper their in Verity! Great effort from the pair of you!

Scandigal

So so good. Amazing production values, music, voiceover, camera angles aarghhh I hope one day you can do an actual TV programme for channel 4

Dwayne Rowley

Nice work, loved it. Can't wait for the next one :D

Michal Hazucha

Different countries have different challenges for "completely" straight line mission. Me as Slovak found Slovakia's narrow part doable thinking about forests and other nature. But I stepped out considering man-build infrastructure to be unavoidable. "Straight Line Mission Across a County" might help :)

Michal Hazucha

This was worth waiting. In many ways (camera, music, comments, crossing unexpected obstacles, supporting staff...). Norway is stunning - says a fan of mushrooms and mystical forests. Side comment: You're into the most expensive countries in Europe, aren't you? ;)

MusFuzZ

The best content there is out of all 267channels i follow.

satysa

Any news about release time/ date for episode 2?

Benjamin McCann

Nah, I mean is it cheating when Edmund Hillary took sherpas with him up Everest? Long distance trials of endurance can't just be done with a backpack containing sandwiches. You have to be realistic and consider the magnitude of the task at hand, and sometimes assistance is about as necessary as wearing shoes, which also isn't cheating.

geowizard

The bonus footage will be $1 Joe, all the others featured are $6 such as the foraging trips with Ben etc
