Hey everyone, in part two of the new utility shaders tutorial I will be covering the powerful and very flexible new procedural Tiles shader. This shader is able to generate over 20+ different types of patterns. These all have a few universal parameters which can be used to adjust the pattern, ranging from the colors to the UVs. Here is where the fun begins, as these inputs can be leveraged with textures, and Maxon Noises to create all sorts of variations and manipulations of the baseline patterns.

Using these patterns I will show you how to create your own procedural ground shaders for wood parquets of interiors. I also discuss how you can leverage these patterns to make procedural light textures to breakup your area lights without using actual textures. Near the end I discuss how we can use the tiles shader to breakup the tiling of textures using a psuedo-hex tiling trick. I wrap up the tutorial with a plastic bubble wrap packaging shader on the rubber toy model.

This is one of my new favorite shader nodes in Redshift, and I see myself using it often, and with it I plan on expanding my preset material pack for new materials using these awesome new patterns. Thanks again everyone for all the support on Patreon, if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments below. Have a great day!

really cool! This will be very helpful!

Mick Graas

will you do a new car paint tutorial as soon as the flakes Utility comes out?

Drewzee

that displacement min/max tip is great

Saul Espinosa

It is a small but often forgotten feature that is really necessary for managing the the displacement ranges relative to the surface and how you want it to displace.

Saul Espinosa

Hey Mick, indeed I plan on covering a new paint/car paint tutorial. As my last one is pretty old now and uses the RS Material. Since then the new Standard Surface has opened up more possibilities for exotic paints and the new Flakes Utility shader is very powerful and opens up more options with exotic paints for many different surfaces.

Ruliorama

Hi, is that doable on a Dome light ? and how ? like in C4D

Ruliorama

I don't understand why Tile don't reflect. Maxon Noises reflects..
