Hey guys! In part one of this two part series I will be covering the new procedural Bricks utility shader. In the first half I will be going over all the parameters and illustrating how they work. Some of these options are a bit trickier as they require multiple parameters to be enabled for it to actually do anything. It is a bit tricky to use in my opinion due to how many options there are but it is very flexible due to this.

I will show you how we can mix some maxon noises to breakup the patterns and how we can leverage them to add imperfections to the generated outputs. Currently the Bricks shader comes with a few built-in noise controls to help add some grime but it is still too "clean" and needs the user to break up the shapes further. The end result being a procedural brick shader for outdoor pillars or structures.

You can find the example scenes in the 7zip file attached below. Head on over to part 2 for the next utility shader, the awesome tiles procedural shader.

I’d love to see a utility shader dedicated to blurring techniques like the “rain” option you demoed here. I often find myself wanting an intuitive way to add some blurring or softening to layered procedural noises after I dial in the noise look I want. (Though I’m still enough of a novice in Redshift that maybe I’ve just overlooked this tool!)

Also, VERY excited to see photography-based settings for DoF and motion blur! I’ve upgraded to the latest but I’ve been in an old project file that was still displaying the old camera settings, so I totally missed this! Dialing in DoF with circle of confusion settings was hilariously awkward. :D

Hey Joe, sorry for the late reply. In fact there is a "somewhat" texture and maxon noise blurring node made with OSL on the Redshift Github Repo that you plugin to the offset input. There will also be a "distortion node" coming out in 3.5.15 first for C4D then the other DCC which will let you warp entire shader chains. https://github.com/redshift3d/RedshiftOSLShaders

Thanks. For some reason OSL’s hard crash Houdini on Mac in the current version (with my hardware at least). I’ve reported it, so hopefully that gets resolved soon so I can try these. Cheers.

Ah bummer, there do seem to be some OSL weirdness on METAL. For some people it runs fine, and others it doesn't. Thank you for reporting it either way.
