The Goonies - WATCH ALONG!!

Hey you guys! This is another of my go-to movies when I’m sick. All the baby 80s heartthrobs! Pinchers of Peril! Truffle Shuffle! Michael Jackson’s sister coming to Chunk’s house to use the bathroom!

Darcie Turner

I still remember the original one with the octopus and it was so friggen scary when I was little xo

DABSLABOG

The fact a lot of people grew up with it adds something extra to people's love of it, but it is just genuinely a good movie in its own right - it has flaws, but what movie doesn't, and if you carry some of the logic through it makes no sense at all, but as a primarily "kid's movie" that the whole family can watch it is top tier. Stranger Things is definitely targeted at people who grew up watching stuff like this, though still of fairly a wide age range, rather than people growing up (present tense) who this would be aimed at. On the chaotic nature and "loudness" - it's quite well known that the cast drove Spielberg absolutely crazy. Stranger Things is definitely much more relaxed. On the peril thing, it definitely is aimed at a younger audience in the 80s and I definitely seemed back then that it was enough - I think it's partly that as an adult it isn't there and partly because people are much more desensitised these days than back then. I'm not sure I would agree this made Sean Astin a star by the way, his career arguably kind of stalled then I'm informed he was in LoTR, but even after that it feels like his career didn't really pick up until he did 24, then it really took off and then, obviously, his role in Stranger Things (you'll never convince me that Stranger Things didn't intentionally reference his 24 character by the way). Same with Josh Brolin - his career tanked so hard that he became a day trader, it's only that 2010-2015 period where he does True Grit, Sicario, gets cast in MCU etc where it really takes off again. If anything, my sense is this movie actually damaged their acting careers rather than helped them.

Ok your intro... I'm like Greg.. you both are messing with us right? How can you have NOT seen The Goonies??? I'm still not sure if you're just messing with us or not..I'll watch along to see.. I've seen this probably for real a hundred times and it doesn't get old. One of the best adventure movies ever. And no CGI or green screens were used everything was practical and real. The ship was built and they didn't let the cast see it till the scene was filmed where they discover it so they're reactions could be real. The rocks on the coast are real etc. They built props to fit the locations instead of CGI'ing locations to fit the props etc. Most of this film was filmed in and around Astoria Oregon and the coast line of Northern California. The kid that played Chunk runs a law firm now, he also negotiated Ke Huy Quans deal for Everything, everywhere all at once. Ke gave him a shout out when he won his oscar. Sheesh Greg. what kind of childhood did you have? Tara is right you sound 75. I was 12 when this came out and it was so me and my friends. We were always told "Take it outside" cause we were loud, obnoxious, always getting into things, always looking for some adventure to go on. So I guess for me this movie wasn't loud, it was realistic in that sense. As for you reviews. I guess there is a major generational gap as there weren't a lot of movies like this yet for kids and families not on this level. So, I guess our imaginations during this time as a kid were more heightened than kids of the 90s and 2000's. And Tara.. You never rode a bike off the side of a hill before? :) I don't think it would have killed him, sucked for sure but doubtful. But then again back then if you didn't come home at the end of a Saturday, scratched, bruised with some blood on your shirt and a muddy bike, you weren't being a kid right.

Sean was a star. This, Like Father Like Son, Memphis Belle, Toy Soldiers, Encino Man, Rudy...all good movies that a lot of people watched when they came out. It never really stalled in the 90's he just did other projects and smaller parts and directed an Academy Award winning short in the 90's as well.

Oh this is going to be a fun rewatch. I can't wait. Tara the Terrific from the House of the Bellringers and Greg the Gregarious from the House of Alba - thank you for this treasure of an upload.

This was so much fun, thank you so much for watching this as far as the octopus goes if you watch the Cyndi Lauper music video for the song The Goonies R Good Enough you can see the octopus 😁

Miss Freaky

Yes!! The Goonies! Definitely a fav growing up! Indeed, if you did not watch as a child, you did not have the same experience as watching it as an older adult. Miss Tara, fyi - the blond character is played by Martha Plimpton. Another 80s movie to suggest: Parenthood. Have a great day you two! :)

Ferdinand Martinez

I grew up just waiting till Christmas, so I could watch this with my cousins and grandma lol great times
