Great film. If you like this film I also recommend another film starring Rob Brown as well. I highly recommend Finding Forrester. Great cast: Rob Brown in his first film role, Sean Connery, F. Murray Abraham, and Anna Paquin.

I disagree with the son not fitting the narrative, just cause they didn't have dialogue doesn't mean story wasn't told, that's why we pay attention, something yall very clearly weren't doing. there was a lot going on in those basketball scenes that were too slo mo or not strong enough for yall, that really helped that narrative to me at least and were some of the greatest basketball scenes too, they got a good sense of realism and how the game is actually played, which is even more reason why its beloved, message was great but the basketball helped it just as much.
