Re: the Origin of the Orcs, Tolkien wavered on it (or different elements of it) over the years, but the most “canon” explanation is that Melkor (the Valar who would become Morgoth, Sauron’s old boss to vastly oversimplify it) got wind of the creation of the Elves and began sending dark spirits among them before they could be fully formed. That combined with physical and magical torture corrupted these proto-Elves into the first Orcs

The Hobbit movies definitely give you more world building, id say they are worth checking out. Also LOVE this movie, never seen my dad get emotional but when that line happened "you bow to no one" we were a wreck. Glad yall watched these

Wesley McPherson

I think we need to buy Jackie a bib for the hobbit movies 😏

Sorry to double comment, but (for anyone interested) in Frodo’s defense, Tolkien essentially said no one would be able to resist the Ring at its most potent, and singlehandedly destroy it—since that’s when it would be exercising all its power. BUT a big part of Tolkien’s philosophy was that—while evil always contained more power than good by virtue of being willing to do the horrible stuff that good people never will to achieve something—evil contains the seeds of its own undoing. So, like if a despot is more likely to be able to take the throne by unethical scheming, that same scheming he nurtures among his followers may be his demise. In the case of the Ring, while it was two powerful for any one to resist when it came time to destroy it, that same mindless fanaticism and devotion is what leads Frodo and Gollum to fight over it on the lip of the volcano (or, in the book, Gollum to zealously dance off the edge in celebration of regaining the Ring).

this was nice surprise to wake up to and good way to spend my morning :)

i believe there was a issue with syncing the video to the reaction and since they have been taking little more time to get them up (doesn't normally take them much longer though)

Fun fact: Peter Jackson actually directed Sean Austin’s (Sam) father, John Austin, in his previous film before the Lord of the Rings franchise, The Frighteners. It’s a fun horror film starring Michael J. Fox. If any of you ever react to The Frighteners make sure to react to the Director’s Cut. The Director’s Cut is the better film than the theatrical version.

Cody Price

Yes, react to the extended versions of The Hobbit.

I can relate to Jackie with having a fear of Spiders. The Spider scene gets me every time. One film that is really fun, but it does constantly gives me nightmares because of Spiders is Arachnophobia. I have to watch it during Halloween season once a year. John Goodman gives too much of fun performance in that film not to watch it. I’ll suffer through the nightmares for that. Lol. :)

With the Lord of the Rings, the size of the video has been prohibitive in processing it? We tried a second one last night and it threw an error again. We're going to be trying in the next few hours with a few more tweaks. Fingers crossed. - PLD

Jennifer Dixon

So, the actors that play the hobbits in scenes where they look small aren't done by children. They are actually little people.

Jennifer Dixon

Also, please do The Hobbit trilogy!!!

Katherine Rausch

Paige and Jackie, you guys did a great job with this series! As a long time lover of the franchise, I really appreciated your attention to detail and commitment to understanding details on a first time watch of a pretty complex world with a very passionate fandom. So excited to see both of you react to more!
