Katseye and the whole “survival show” (rather than a show it was a bunch of many videos uploaded on many channels which were connected with x amount of social media posts, which all was really hard and annoying to keep on track with…) is really weirdly presented to the world and it feels like some kind of “social experiment”, because there is apparently a Netflix show coming up later on, which will cover the whole process 😅😅 As someone who is fully open to have non-Asians in Kpop and as someone who is interested in theye groups/projects, I highly recommend checking out VCHA (or if you are interested their survival show A2K). It is a girl group under JYP and J.Y. Park was involved in it 100% and he paid a big attention to the important aspects of Kpop. Although JYP is not a Korean American, he truly understood the differences in mindset of someone wanting to be an artist in the US and in the Kpop realm. A2K was really short, with a good pace and in general it had sort of “healing vibe” rather than the usual stressful nature. Which leads to VCHA themselves… It is really a group with refreshing style/concept. By that I don’t want to be a hater of Katseye, just these two projects were happening at the same time and Dream Academy and the vision for Katseye somehow got lost, whereas A2K was surprisingly good

Idk if it's true BUT I heard that this was just a pre-release single kinda deal? Album in August or something - HONESTLY the first vibe I got was they could do really well in the west, like little mix but tbh with their skill and going through the kpop training, they could really be very very good

laura

100% agree with this. I went into A2K expecting to only check out one episode and never return but it had me hooked! It was really nice to see the girls improve each episode. The whole Dream Academy concept on the other hand was just weird and not engaging at all. I'm still rooting for Katseye but their "Debut" also left me wondering what HYBE's plan for these girls is. While VCHA's music often gets called "kids bop" I can tell there's clearly a vision there plus it simply suits the girls especially given their young ages. I really look forward to more VHCA music, its truly refreshing.

Aine

Agree, VCHA and the show A2K was soooooo good. I adore JYP's Nizi Project style shows

Aurayaya

I'm really not a fan of the idea of this entire group :/

WiseSmellyLegs

@laura JYP definitely has a long run plan for them, so although I get why people who are unfamiliar with VCHA may say it is “kids bop”, it is only a beginning (+ I can enjoy music regardless this fact). The only question now is… Is the World Ready for the Girls of the Year? 😎😎

WiseSmellyLegs

@Aine from what I heard Nizi Projects are great too, but JYP’s attitude in the shows is a bit different. In the way that contestants in Nizi Projects are way familiar with the idol life and training behind that, whereas in A2K he was mainly looking for girls with a potential to be able to go through that + to make it clear what they are going into

I'm very excited to see what HYBE X Geffen have in store for KATSEYE! I don't think Debut was the best song to showcase their abilities, but some of these girls have some AMAZING vocals and you should definitely check out at least the performance videos from Dream Academy to get to know them a little better! Members are - Lara (Indian-american, 18) - Daniela (Venezuelan-Cuban, but born in the US, 20) - Sophia (Filipina, 21) - Megan (born in Hawaii, but family is chinese/singaporean, 18) - Yoonchae (Korean, 16) - Manon (Swiss-Ghanaian, 22) They'll have a Netflix documentary coming out 'this summer', showcasing their Dream Academy journey, and their Debut EP will be out on August 16th!

Jae

especially as a2k is all available on youtube its so much easier to follow

WiseSmellyLegs

@Jae True! Also the aspect of episodes having around 30 minutes, so it is really easy to watch + it being fully in English makes it easier to watch during having a meal for example 😅

Jae

i haven’t actually watched dream academy but some of the performances were really good i recommend them

Amanda Bernström

you should def check out their perfomances from the survival, and if you want you should check out VCHA, an global group from JYP

ashley

yes, they'll also release another single from the album this month

I wish their music video matched the aesthetic of the members a bit better - I know it’s decent but I think the group gives off such cool girl vibes, almost grunge/baddie energy and the music video felt a bit underwhelming to me. I think they should have emphasised on that personal vibe angle of the girls because everyone loved the aesthetics they have anyway. I think all the girls are so talented though and im excited for their future!!

Jules

I like the song. I could not figure out why the songs sounded familiar. I think the song kind of sounds like I love my body by Hwasa in some parts.
