The journey is... over. Congratulations Universe League. You've raised the bar and my standards for any survival show, survival show MC, its judges, and the music... So good I need a break from survival shows just to really let it sit. Because for now... what show could even possibly compete?

Haha so forgive me for the length of this post, I've been holding this in drafts for weeks now, waiting for this episode. 😅 Here's some vote ranking stats and what-if scenarios if the show picked the final team with different criteria. (btw, before anyone jumps me, I ADORE the final lineup) FINALE RANKINGS: 1 JL 3,168,841 2 Cha Woongki 677,202 3 Park Han 504,261 4 Steven 313,965 5 Zhang Shuaibo 245,615 6 Park Juwon 225,105 7 Seo Jeongwoo 173,779 8 Jang Kyungho 165,093 9 Kim Joohyoung 147,636 10 Chih En 146,731 11 Kwon Heejun 122,876 12 Kenta 119,316 13 Kairi 111,512 14 Daisuke 104,925 15 Koo Hanseo 103,821 16 Kim Gijoong 76,190 17 Sirin 57,198 18 Yuito 38,346 19 Keum Jinho 32,009 20 Kim Dongyun 25,080 21 Zen Zen 24,523 So JL and the pilipin vote hard carried, CLEARLY. If we look at the voting data as static (bc there's obv no way to predict how things would change in reality), whichever team JL was on would have won, no matter what. If you erased JL ENTIRELY from the competition, Team Rhythm would have likely still won based on points, depending on who they picked for their 7th member. (without JL, Team Groove was actually *just* slightly ahead by 29k points with the 7 members they had). Here are some fun (or painful 😭) what-if scenarios: IF they choose people purely on top9 ranking, it would be everyone currently in AHOF *except* Chihen and Daisuke, replaced by Kyungho and Joohyoung, respectively. IF they chose the number of winners based on the same tiered system as before (1st place 5 people, 2nd place 3 people, etc), AHOF would actually STILL be the same as the overall rankings version: TR - JL, Steven, Shuaibo, Juwon, Jeongwoo TG - Park Han, Kyungho, Joohyoung TB - Woongki Last one, lowkey my personal favorite scenario (albeit the least likely one) -- if they decided to make an even threeway split with the top3 rankers in each team, this is how AHOF would look: TR - JL, Steven, Shuaibo TG - Park Han, Kyungho, Joohyoung TB - Woongki, Kairi, Sirin

the only 2 that would've changed based on final votes being Chih En and Daisuke for Kyungho and Joohyoung means we got a lineup that is pretty close while still letting one full team win. My forever what if with Universe League will be what if Heejun was never traded to groove as i feel like there is a high chance he would've debuted Also Joohyoung will debuting in a new group called DAILY:DIRECTION along with Minjae from NCT Lastart on February 23 so you might want to keep an eye out for them

Imma call it, Groove would have won if it was an MNET type of show, they fit the MNET vibe, BEAT (like this final lineup) would have won something like LOUD for being the underdogs

Ngl, if Changsub held on to the Groove members, he could have made a decent first group for his label: Joohyung, Kyungho, Gijoong, Heejun, Kenta and Hanseo have a good chemistry, only Han would have needed to be replaced

Nah, Rhythm is a very MNet lineup, except for the fact there's too many foreigners for their liking 😂 but the style and energy they exude is what MNet typically wants

PDnim I hope the AHOF version of We Ready, Ignition, and Mamma Mia would be considered/included on the bonus drop. AHOF uploaded their live performances from their 1st fancon and they were really beautiful.

At first, I thought debuting a whole team through collective votes was a risk on the producers’ part, it was crazy. But maybe that’s just because I’m used to other survival shows’ ranking systems. Still, Universe League is the most fun and wholesome survival show out there. There’s no over-dramatized evil editing. It actually makes you root for everyone. Even the contestants still talk fondly about their experience there.

If it was done the MNET way. We would’ve had Kyungho over Chi en. Kyungho and Woongki redebut together was close… I am still very disappointed that Kairi and Woongki got separated…. You can tell they really got close. And they really compliment each others vibe, on and off stage, their vocals contrast so nicely with each other. But yeh I’m happy Kairi is debuting again too. El Capitxn had a lil crash out after beat lost pre-finale and said if Woongki doesn’t debuted here, he will somehow find a way to make TEAM BEAT permanent and debut them under him or atleast sign Woongki. Which was so father of him ngl.

The fact that any of these team could’ve won if they had JL on their team. I would honestly love a short documentary or interview from the directors on what they were looking for in the members they’ve chosen. Changsub had so many chances to steal JL but he never did. Ultimately, I think it’s kind of a silent pact between them to not take the key members of each team (JL, Han & Woongki)

I would suggest RUNEXT as the next survival show (but there is a bit of BS that will frustrate you! AnD A LOT of people ik feel disappointed with ILLIT after seeing the talent pool and ‘could’ve been’.” In my eyes ILLIT lineup was one of the most UNPREDICTABLE and messy finale lineups that got A LOT OF people outside of Korea mad mad. I have A LOT of negative opinions (towards the judges) and frustrated feelings towards certain results and eliminations… that I just know you will get angry on my behalf too… too many people sugar coat RUNEXT moments because ILLIT became successful…

To be fair watching RUNEXT real time and years later may be very different approaches and mindsets. But I would still love an MYTEENAGEGIRL reaction 🤣 it’s much more fun, a bit poorly made but the concept of the show was interesting + you get to see the Jiwoo and YooYeon newbie era that they want to bury and forget about. It’s cute and they were so memorable! Ehehehe

I agree that Team Rhythm doesn’t have the strongest song. I personally prefer the TG and TB songs, but performance-wise, TR is on a different level overall.

When i first watched this ep, i was voting for Woongki, but i knew that Rhythm was the best team to debut, i didnt know that Woongki and team Rhythm could debut together, i was so happy when i realized they could, i remember jumping out of happiness when Woongki name was called to debut with Rhythm, and then i thought that would be more perfect if Han was the Groove member to debut as well, i dont think i was ever happier with a survival show lineup, i really liked every member on this debut lineup (Jeongwoo was the only one that i wasnt sure of, but after seeing Ahof content i realized that Jeongwoo is so amazing and funny and has great chemistry with all Ahof members). Ahof is a gem of a group, i love them

Also, lately ive been watching a lot of Ahof funny moments, and their group chemistry and sense of humor reminds me so much of Seventeen (SVT is my favorite group), i fell more in love with Ahof members after watching their variety shows, they have perfect group chemistry

I think what you realized during the show is that it really is the spiritual successor to LOUD, AHOF is kinda Kickflip and TNX's dongsaeng. You experienced another ethical survival show.

if you love Going Seventeen, youre gonna love Ahof veriety content, is crazy how funny Ahof is, they are the best 5th gen group for me in terms of chemistry and entertainment

I'm glad you loved this show just as much as I did :) if you're looking for AHOF content to watch to get to know their personalities better, I'd recommend both their Idol Human Theater episodes (they did one for debut era and one for Pinocchio era), and their Silence of Idol episode. All of these literally had me cackling watching them, so funny!!

Rhythm to me had a spark that was missing from the other group. Maybe it's the way the editing portrayed them as a team center compared to the other teams. IMO, Groove was mentor centered and Beat was the struggling story. But Rhythm had a special spark and also star power in their members. But having Hani and WK in Rhythm as the final line up works so well. Their dynamics are hilarious and their synergy works so well. Honestly, I think having a team in Rhythm full of foreigners helped cuz they had to adapt and communicate better to get their points across cuz many did not speak the same language fluently. Plus cultures being more accepting and open.

What a fun and heartbreaking (Kairi, Joohyoung and Hanseo😭😭) journey this was watching my ahof babies become a group for a 3rd time. I think I also need a break from survival shows, you're not alone PD haha. But this finale was especially so much fun to watch with you because of the amount of times you were losing your shit and the funniest part that this show was a year ago but your reaction made it feel like we're watching it live rn lol. Usually finales are pretty boring because of how long they are but not this time haha. Your one last crash out over EL CAPITXN is definitely going down in history, even Yugyeom did this to you this time, my boy finally got some attention too lol. I mean they both looked like they are going to gala. Our expensive parents😌 I also don't know how you will be able to watch any other survival show after this because UL for sure set the bar very very high. Not saying that it was perfect, I think every survival show has its flaws but those flaws were almost non-existent here or they were not as big and important compared to other shows. Just hoping that future survival shows are taking notes from UL how to make a healthy but still very entertaining show. And that MAGIC, that MAGIC that we saw here in most of the performances it's not something you can copy but it's achievable if you have a very good music and very special idols like Joohyoung and Woongki.

finally i can scream at the top of my lungs I'm so proud of my bias line PPGz JL Woongki and Park Hannie!! (Powerpuffz - theyre called as so by the fandom because theyre the 3 leading in votes, and main vocalists of their team, and they coincidentally have the colors of the 3 powerpuff girls!): 😭 i rooted for them from the very beginning til the end and im just so glad theyre together. All three of them being in ONE group is such a cheat code. Imagine having THE Park Han, THE JL and THE Woongki in one group (we dont have to)

You know whats crazy that i realized In PD'sblind reaction to Rendezvous i remember him saying "This is so early 2010's coded" (which is around 2nd-3rd gen kpop). Then, in this episode he again mentioned missing the feeling of 2nd gen which he got in this show. THEN in the Pinocchio reaction, he ALSO mentioned AHOF was "bringing back the greatest music of 3rd gen" I dont think this was a coincidence, and i think it was pretty genius on the producers' part because they clearly had a good direction for what these boys will bring to the table from the start and honestly, i cant wait for what they cook up next One thing im kinda curious about is, now, AHOF are doing songs that have the team BEAT-ish sound. What if in the future, they have title tracks that are more RHYTHM? then maybe an album more team GROOVE-ish? they could do SO much with their concept

This survival show actually made me sad, no matter what team debuted there was talent we were loosing out on. Although I do like that they committed to the premise of whatever team wins gets to debut, because most survival shows would backtrack and go for the popular members. Also, I do wish all the directors could help throughout like Changsub did but I don’t think it was logically possible. Got7 had a comeback around the time and WayV was on tour. Also the first draft was lowkey a make or break. Team Beat got really unlucky. Their best players were on their OG Bench lineup who were either stolen or got cut because they weren’t popular with either the live audience or the online voters. They also didn’t get a chance to steal players since they kept placing third. I do think if Groove was more cutthroat with their swaps, they probably would’ve won. They had many chances to steal some of Rhythm’s stronger players that weren’t JL and just didn’t. Although Changsub’s criteria was most definitely vocal focused which I can respect, it sadly just doesn’t seem to be something modern kpop fans resonate with.
