Steven Rodriguez

Came to look for this and you uploaded right this second haha, THANK YOU PD❤️

SO many good albums coming up. i absolutely cannot wait for misconceptions of us. also if u thought this one was long… that one is what. 20 tracks? also mildly surprised this was your least favorite album so far, this album is one of their best for me but then again i feel that way abt most of their albums so i guess im biased. but shinee songs just don’t age for me idk. they’re so timeless obsession guitar solo is like the best thing to have ever happened in music #tbh very much disagree abt the songs being too long thing, for me i think they all feel so full and complete in ways we don’t really see in kpop anymore. mmmm yes gimme a 4-5 min song. love

The ballads on the album are SOO beautiful to me.. One, Life, Your Name, and Quasimodo especially… the vocals… the theming… I’m glad you felt that too (even tho they put Shout Out right after lol btw it’s Onew making the moaning noise). like ahh they just sound so nice. I’ve always enjoyed how unique all their voices sound on their own and together and their ballads really showcase it so well.. Some people don’t like ballads in Kpop albums but man idk… they haven’t heard shinee’s I guess. Electric Heart is also an underrated banger and I’m so glad you like it lol!

A.R.R

Also you're very correct about the emotional whiplash. I'm picking up pieces of my heart off the floor after Quasimodo and then BOOM monkey goofy sounds lol. I had forgotten cause I just listen to the shinee songs I like, not necessarily in the full album especially for their older discog.

SpacedOut Vy

This was my first comeback with shinee when I first got into them!!! This is so nostalgic to me

juls

Thank you for this listening party PD! Its been a while since Ive listened to some of these tracks :) i absolutely love shinee’s r&b ballad too. I was wondering if you’ll also be listening to their Japanese albums in chronological order? I belive the next one would be The First, which was their japanese debut album

Sunny

ok question PD : are u just THIS immersed in the music that ur body locks in and u are in a trance, or are you just so in tranced that u are nodding off for milliseconds? LOL it's always kinda funny seeing you go still one second and ur body goes lax, and the next u wriggle around to kinda show u are still there and bobbing to the music.

Mari

Thank you for your reaction! Lucifer was the first physical SHINee album I owned, and Hello was the first comeback I followed in real time, so it’s really nostalgic..! My favorite tracks are Up & Down, A-Yo, and Ready or Not, I can totally picture the live stages while listening to them, they’re so much fun!! Obsession and Quasimodo are literal perfection. And One and Life… I’m not usually a fan of ballads in general, but SHINee ballads definitely hit different :')

Fluffy_Chick

This album really an emotion roller-coaster LOL. A-yo is my personal comfort song. Love Still Goes On is a sequal from Love Should Go On and they even have a match-up version of these two songs in their concert, really can't wait untill you start react to their concerts! if I remember correctly, they have a non-autotune version of WOWOWOW too. but I'm not really sure if it's fom their concert or from them singing live in any other events. As for SHINee new release, you already know that Onew have a Tough Love EP comeback. but I'm not sure if you're gonna react to their japanese discrography too? because before Tough Love, Onew have an Saku EP comeback from japanese side first and you still missed out his other two japanese EPs too. you've react to Key's Tongue Tied before (that's one also a japanese song), so I think you really should dig up to their japanese side more! and not only Onew's Tough Love, but Minho also has a comeback EP named Tempo! and two more japanese release named 'Sunkissed' and 'Flawless'. and I think you still missed out most of Minho releases because most of them is just a single (and missed out some of other's single too, I really recommend you to check it out sometime. like Jjong's cockroach song lol, it's named 'Where are you' in english) , you still didn't react to Minho's first mini-album 'Chase' too lol. Funfact about SHINee's solo first mini-album, it's a set, not only just by name but they also copied album cover format too LOL. the one who started this plagiarism game is Jonghyun who released Base album after Taemin's Ace album. Minho is the last one who complete this set. so it's sorted in order as Ace > Base > Face (it's Key's, later repackaged as 'I wanna be' album) > Voice > Chase

Blue_Twist

This album is such a good reminder that SHINee was the “experimental” group. They have so much range and can pull off so many styles! But of course experimenting is a risk, right? Still, there’s so much in this album to love. ❤️

Felicia

First album I bought after I like them.

Callista

I think you really should react to the first SHINee World concert. It came right after this album, so you will not be spoiled for the later songs. Shawols are saying SHINee are a bunch of theater kids cosplaying as idols. Their concerts are very theatrical and sometimes silly. Especially the first two. But so fun! And the silly songs like wowowow really shine on the stage.

Looks like I joined the Patreon at the right time! Sorry PD, Lucifer is a certified banger forever. Hello has been my ringtone for like 10 years :D Losing my mind because I've been a Shinee fan since 2013 and I've never heard Get It in my life. Tbh not my favorite haha. But Up & Down and Ayo are my tunes to this day. Electric Heart has JT energy. Obsession is one of those songs that is never going to sound the same live without Jonghyun (along with Symptoms, imo), but isn't it amazing that we got it at all. And a guitar solo outro?? Insane. May I also just say the number of 4+ minute songs on this album, bless. You gotta see them do Quasimodo live, it's a religious experience. I think I've heard Shout Out maybe once and lol that's Onew with the ow~ in the back. Otherwise no comment hahaha. Actually I like the bridge a lot. Wowowow is classic "musical" Shinee, this is a song meant to have a silly performance, and indeed it does. Have I not heard Life either??? Wow I guess I reallly neglected certain songs on this album. But it isn't one of the ballads they usually perform. It really is whiplash going into Ready or Not isn't it. Also never heard Love Pain in my life, wtf. Ok I'm a fake fan apparently. Love Still Goes On has that banger chorus but the verses are eh. Lol. Overall a rollercoaster of an album, not my favorite by far but still awesome. I don't think you've done the 1 of 1 album yet? I can't wait, that's my favorite. (1 and 1 is the repackage.)

Form of Therapy

Based on what others describe, I think I feel music pretty differently than most people. I feel music on a pretty neurological level so there are a lot of moments where a song will either choke me and take a hold of me and lock my system in pure shock—or sometimes I’m just thinking real hard to hear the lyrics or hear a specific instrument.

Form of Therapy

So I looked—isn’t it just MOST their Korean songs in Japanese? Seems not worth the LP

Fluffy_Chick

omg, PD please don't skip their japanese discographyyy😭😭 I know half of "the first" are just their title tracks in another language because this is their japanese debut so most of it is just a wrap up of their previous releases but at least replay in japanese version, Taemin gots more lines👉👈 he took some of Jjong's part so maybe you will got a different feeling from this? if you really think it's not worth for LP at least please give some of your freetime listening to their original japanese tracks in this album offscreen🥹🥹 because their later on japanese albums will have mostly original new japanese songs with one or two korean title tracks japanese version(because, once again, most of it already wrap up in "The first"😂) The first have twelve tracks with seven korean title tracks in japanese and five new original japanese songs, or you can count it as six new songs if we count replay that Taemin got more part for singing... if you listen to only five new songs in the album, at least it'll have number of songs equal as one EP so I don't think it's too bad to have a LP though🥲

EnzioAkira

I was distracted by an exam BUT I CAN FINALLY WATCH THIS IVE BEEB WAITING

juls

I wouldn’t mind if you didn’t listen to the japanese ver. of their already released songs! I understand that it could get repetitive 😅 though 6 out of 13 tracks of The First japanese album are still new japanese songs! Also SHINee does have a pretty significant japanese discography (some quite iconic) as the years went down so I definitely think they are worth checking out :) If you want, you could keep a little system or check the tracklist beforehand if you don’t want any repeats 👍🏻

EnzioAkira

You should definitely check out the live stages for Ayo and Ready or Not, even if it’s only on your own time, they’re amazing

WiseSmellyLegs

1:11:30 - BIGBANG’s 8th studio album? They released only 3 Korean studio albums 😅😅 Remember is their second one

Lawol

The repeats are mostly on the debut Japanese album and even then ''The First'' has 6 original/new Japanese songs so imo it's definitely worth a LP it would essentially make for an EP length-wise instead of a full album. You're probably doing Onew's Tough Love as well next month? So both would be appreciated hehe. And overall, skipping SHINee's Japanese albums would be a significant loss, it makes up a big chunk of their discography, like there's literally years where they only had Japanese comebacks and no Korean ones, such as in 2011, 2014 and 2017. It would also make for an interesting comparison between the two discographies, because they differ quite a bit.

Lawol

Yeah I was like damn is A-Yo so boring PD Is dozing off to it!? LMAO 😭😭😭

Lawol

Exactly. This album, or at least some songs on it, might not be for everyone, but that’s also one of the reasons I respect it so much. There’s no way anyone can say this is objectively uninteresting or not a unique album. It takes a lot of risks. Personally, I prefer it over the debut studio album. While that one stays consistent in what it offers, it also becomes a bit of a blur, with many of the songs starting to sound kind of the same. That’s definitely not the case with this one, every song is different and memorable. So while, admittedly, this one has lower lows for me, it also has significantly higher highs. I’d take even 6-7 songs I really love over 10 mid ones.

Lawol

How have you never heard Get It, Life and Love Pain before? 😭 It seems like I'm in the minority but I like Get It... haha. Ngl, at first I didn't really 'get it' either but it's a grower type of song, I like all the added parts and layers as it goes on, now I totally 'get It' lmao. Also, agreed on Obsession and Symptoms. Interesting how Jonghyun wrote both of them, it almost feels like his solo songs. Especially Obsession - idk if it's just me or most of it is sung by him alone, like in the chorus I can pretty much only hear his voice with maybe others somewhere far in the back.

Lawol

One word: MOANEW 😩

Aamal Samal

That was my thought too i was like is he ok and just rushed to the comments

Aamal Samal

This album is the only old gen kpop album that i listen to alot of people might think the sound sound outdages but this album has so many hidden bangers wowowow is really a one of kind silly song but i get the apeal this album is amazing especially for an old gen sound ready or not and its chorus is just so mesmerizing ayo too cant wait for you to react the story of light too also an amazing album might be top 2 with hello

Oro The Nymph

Wow, I forgot all about Get It. Reminds me that Key once said SHINee were supposed to be a hip hop group because they were "such terrible singers" (SM gaslighting, I SWEAR). Hello was my very first SHINee album...Ayo saved me when I was going through some pretty rough times.

Lee

This is one of my favorite SHINee albums ever!!!
