SM did have particular images/concepts that they wanted each of the members to be portrayed as initially, which you'll see melts away more especially from SWC III onward I'd say. Minho has been the most vocal about it in recent years, where they wanted him to be portrayed as this almost like shy, mysterious type and didn't want him to talk much (which was hard for him because he's SO loud and energetic lol). I think Onew was always meant to be known as the gentle leader of SHINee, but because he's the leader, I think he had a lot more pressure to present as being more outgoing than he actually is, rather than the introvert that we know him as. That's also something that switches up over the years, as Jonghyun's aura on stage grew even larger (you've really hardly seen anything yet) and he also took on a lot of the talking, to a degree that I remember people mistook him as the leader. I'm excited to see more of your reactions, especially SWC III - IV - V are all just legendary.

I've watched this concert twice before, when SM screened it during the lead up to SW VII and SW VIII this year. But watching it with you a 3rd time made it even more special. Thank you PD for bringing us along on your Shawol journey.

Also I believe they posted it in your request but Ofra has all the concerts that are all subbed including the songs too so those I can totally recommend for pretty much every shinee concert reaction.

I went to SWVII in korea last year and can confirm, shinee concerts are still magical. they never lost their touch despite everything they’ve been thru!!

I just laugh with your Onew's marshmallow comment lol. yeah, in their early years SM kinda have a image for them to keep. but the reason that Onew become a leader of the group just because he's the oldest one though (and the only legally adult one with korean age at that time), not about any group image. if I remember correctly, in their early years Onew tried to adapt with his leader duty so he's kinda tried to keep his professional leader looks? that's why he's look so forced mature here. but after the members are all more confident and more actively participate with group activity, he's more relaxed and become him that's we know nowadays. and I need to object something, actually Onew looking good when he has long hair too😭 his hair just thick so it's need some trimming/styling. but he's beautiful with long hair too!!😭😭 some TMI about their position, Onew is a leader / lead vocal, Jonghyun is a Center / main vocal, Minho is a visual / main rapper, Taemin is a Maknae / main dancer, Key is a sub-vocal / lead rapper / lead dancer so yeah, he's an all-rounder. (more TMI for Key, he's afraid of heights. so when they're on a moving cart or a hydraulic lift etc. you can notice that he won't moving too much) The song that you aren't recognise is Bodyguard, it's their OST so of course it wouldn't be on any albums you've listened so far. Oh, and lastly, about the-too-much-VCRs in this concert. they don't have any lores LOL. it's just that in their early years SHINee is just a bunch of shy babies🤣. well, we have Minho and Key but SM told them to keep their image (aka not talk too much). so they use VCRs when they gonna change their outfits/sections instead of talking with fans. I think they're more comfortably talking in between around SWC4 onward.

This is only SWC1 and it was so impressive and special already, especially Jonghyun had such big stage presence so early on, and it all only gets better and better!!

PD have you been to an nct dream concert? I got to go to their NY date for their TDS3 in 2024 , while it was my first kpop concert i did feel like the set listing had some of the dreamy feel you spoke about :) Also i have ALWAYS thought key was the all rounder of the group too, i feel like its not talked about enoughh

This was so much fun! I was also not there when it all started so I get emotional too! I regret that I was late to the table but, I’ve been feasting ever since I got here! Of course everyone feels like this about their ults but, I truly believe there is no bond stronger than the bond between SHINee and Shawol! It’s palpable and it just keeps spreading and encompassing anyone who approaches!

Yeah, re: live singing, I think they lip-synced all the title tracks? No idea why, but I guess it was a thing. Everything else and yes wherever you see hand mics is live. But yeah in these earlier shows when they have to lip sync I always thought they looked angry, like they want to be singing but they can't. Except for the ending, LOTS of serious looks in this concert haha. It only gets better from here if you can believe it!

Gosh I loved that! I was waiting for it! Yes SHINee always structures their sections so amazingly! It gets better and better too. 😉 also SHINee is always very theatrical. Every concert. I can not wait for you to especially see SHINee World 3 to 8! And all Japanese ones too! 😅 when is the next one coming? I disagree with you on one thing only: Onew with long hair will always be my favorite Onew🥰 Actually to me long hair Onew, Minho and Key are it! I would want them always to have longer hair. I am weak for it. With Taemin and Jjjong I prefer them medium to short haired. But hey, I thing they could be bold for all i care and still look like flipping gods🫠 But I laughed so much when you said Onew seemed serious and overly masculine😅 I don't see it per se, but I think I know his humour and everything he did back then too well. I think this was also around the time he was in a rock musical. As you watch you'll see they all had very different levels of existing on stage. Some shocking and surprising. 😂 but always remember they are SHINee, nothing is impossible! Enjoy!

There are so many other concerts to watch and I really REALLY hope you don't skip the japanese ones because those are the BEST in my opinion, the quality for their japanese stages are on another level! About live singing, yeah, I think they're lip syncing whenever their ear mics(?) were on and doing live singing when the hand mics came up (and yes, SHINee DID sing so stable LIVE even when they're running around, it's crazy. Those part were live, I'm sure of that, dunno why they decided on lip syncing for some songs when the boys could literally jumping around and singing, but if it's for they boys' health sake, I don't mind it at all). It would happen until SWC II I guess? SWC III to V they were older, more experienced, and will blown your mind more. I was baptized into Shawol by the sheer amazing theatrical stages and whatever they did in SWC III, so I can't wait to see you watch that. Watching this concert with you really made me remembering my baby shawol era where I would binge their live stages for days with my mouth hung open. Excited to reliving that journey with you! Edit : About Key, though. You are right. There's a reason he's nicknamed "all mighty key/master key" on SHINee World's rap because he indeed took A LOT of support work on stage. He's a lead vocalist, lead dancer, and lead rapper all in one package. One of my favorite thing when watching/rewatching SWC was seeing Key as a rapper and SHINee's hype man on stage. He rarely hype the stage nowadays since he took over more vocal work on SHINee, but dang if I'm not missing rapper and hype man Kibum and rewatching these concerts were my only salvation.

the funny thing about shinee is they're so good at everything BUT lipsyncing (esp jonghyun and onew) so it's really REALLY noticeable when they do it lol
