I definitely think the beating is not a good punishment cause he can just go back to society and continue his life and continue being a menace to society, I would prefer he is removed from society and has to reflect on why he's there. However, I think I get why Yohan did the flogging instead. I think it was entirely to prove a point and get the people riled up and scare people that end up under his scrutiny. It's a media play as well as a power play, which makes sense, even if the person he's punishing gets away free afterwards. Who knows maybe it will at least scar this asshole for life.

The fact is that Yohan doesn't care about society. He despises almost all people. Does it matter to him that this little bitc* receives a fair punishment ? Of course not! Regarding the punishment itself. If we look at the minister's son as a character, then the flogging will clearly break him menthaly, and Yohan knows it. But, at the same time, Yohan's main goal is the minister herself, he wants to break her and hurt her. So the public flogging is a punishment that better serves Yohan's purposes.

In case you missed it, there’s one more scene after the title has shown at the end that is quite necessary(?). It will make you more confused and doubtful, I think so. After that scene I kinda feel like I’m going to watch it all along without trying to make more assumptions cause it might messed me up before the end of the series.😂

I agree with the fact that the punishment he got was easy compared to 100 or 200 years in prison, but I feel like the punishment he got was suitable for him. now he might have the trauma of getting flogged and might stop being a bitch. For me, I think, taking his freedom FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE is a bit too much idk....

Okay, you need to watch the last scene. Maybe start with that next week before you watch ep5? I feel like that would have influenced your discussion quite a lot, especially about how Yohan is an unreliable narrator. Also, I so agree that the flogging wasn't an appropriate sentence. But I understand why Yohan picks it, as he isn't interested in justice - that's what Gaon is interested in. Yohan wants to break Cha Kyunghee, and in this episode he is not only making her betray her own family, he is also pushing the foundation away from her. I also think that Yohan doesn't want to give the same punishment for every trial. Hundreds of years in prison was shocking enough for the first case, but he can't only hand out prison sentences all the time - that would make a boring, predictable show. I don't know if you remember the man Yohan hunted and made fall from a roof in the earlier episodes? I think that was the firefighter, as Yohan takes back a watch and leaves him to die. Just like the firefighter left him to die.

I think flogging was a better punishment, because it has that idea of torture, more if it is public. Being in prison is something so common these days, is like the universal punishment; so it wouldn’t be that thing. But the idea of bringing a form of punishment that is ancient and that in 21st century no longer exists because it is considered so cruel that it is disrespectful of humans rights, gives that feeling of excitement, of the forbidden and even makes it seem like a worse punishment; more so if you combine it with the humiliation of doing it in public. That punishment just completely demoralizes the character and teaches him a life lesson, that even a person of privilege can be whipped like a scumbag. Personally I think that a life in prison would not have generated that impact, besides that by terms of the series is more exciting for the audience to see that punishment (because it’s unexpected) than simply a confinement in prison. Also you missed the final scene, it is soooo god. That I didn’t see that coming

I think more than the pain of flogging, the punishment is more about the humiliation he and his family have to live with forever. Especially for someone who’s “untouchable”, he will always be that asshat who got flogged in public lol. If he went to prison, chances are his mother would’ve been able to get him out anyway, or his mother would’ve afforded him preferential treatment. Honestly the thing that would’ve made that flogging better is if they got his victims to flog him 😂

ahhh to reiterate others, there was one more small scene after the ending title card that is kind of an important one! start the next episode off with that bc it might change your viewpoint.

this ep explains the reason why yohan hates both the rich AND the poor (as what he has previously said). during the fire, the rich are busy treating themselves who were actually fine and didn't think about the people who are obviously way more injured than them, no one's glancing or even offered to help the injured elijah whom he was carrying (even you can see how the president and his wife were sitting in the ambulance alr making the injured person in front of the ambulance couldn't get inside). and the poor, the firefighter couldn't careless about saving isaac he only cared about stealing the expensive watch that isaac is wearing. about the flogging vs jail time, i think he was trying to make it more about the public humiliation by beating him up in front of the whole nation and not about the flogging itself. like the guy will now get known by an abuser who gets punished that way. when he's in jail, he won't get embarrassed bc he's surrounded with people with the same crime as him anyway. but when he's out there, he won't get the respect he always gets from people anymore. and this might be a bigger punishment for him who is always used to other people bowing down to him and letting him do whatever he likes with them.

I think flogging in public serves Yohan's intentions better than sending the guy to a prison where he, with his wealth and power, could continue what he's been doing in his daily life. I'm not even sure he would've stayed there for a long time with his mother as a minister. On the other hand, publicly humiliating him the same way he humiliated other people could break him more. Will he be able to even face anyone aside from, maybe, his father? Not too sure. With that being said it's still obvious that justice wasn't Yohan's first intention, but breaking the Minister and making people doubt her was.

Jinyoung throughout this whole ep felt one emotion and that was disgust, his face just sends honestly. But i agree that the flogging seems a bit too weak as a punishment compared to prison but when i thought about it some more i realized that his mom can easily get him out of there with her money and power but i think they should’ve at least given him more flogs like 70 or smth like that
