I agree with your comments on ikon being like college roommates. I feel like they have a similar relationship to me and my roommates/friend group at uni and I find it really refreshing and relatable.

B

I've always thought that iKON had a different dynamic than most groups. They are close like some other groups are, but its a different type of closeness. I think it really does stem from their personalities.

Q

PD~ during your reaction to the last episode of iKON TV, I'm curious to know (1) which episode did you like best, and (2) who has been your favorite iKON TV member.

h

Yup I think other than Bobby, BI and Donghyuck are both fluent in English. Donghyuck recently did an interview with Eric nam for the dive podcast and I was surprised at how fluent his English was & his diction. Really proud of them cause I know English is a hard language to learn let alone to become borderline fluent.

I think the fact that ikon went through two survival shows is the reason why their bond is more friend like than family. Especially Chanwoo, since he was an addition from the second survival show they did, mix and match. During mix and match a lot of the members were pinned against each other.

K

yes i was surprised too, i didn't even know he lived in atlanta as an exchange student.

I love Ikon's group dynamic. They do seem like college friends who definitely like each other but will also give each other hell if they get on their nerves. And I feel it's the same whether they're in front of the camera or not (tbh they might censor themselves just a little bit on camera but not a lot). It's definitely refreshing. They've also admitted how some of them used to be pretty awkward around each other when it's just the two of them (e.g Junhoe and Chanwoo).

You really should watch their Videostar Episode. I think you would laugh your so much 😉

it’s so interesting that you picked up on chanwoo seeming like he’s a bit of an outsider to the group! everyone aside from him was on the same team (team b) when they competed as a group against the other trainee group that ended up winning (team a - i.e. the members of winner), while chanwoo only joined for the second survival show, which was a lot more everyone against one another rather than team a vs team b. i think the only members that have really known one another for as long as groups like bts and seventeen would be bi/bobby/jay - they all joined yg at the same time, and i think bi (the youngest of them) was only 14 at the time

Ikon is a group that doesn't look close with one another, but is actually really close with each other. I agree that they do have a different type of closeness and I do think it stems from their different personalities. They know each other so well and how one member would react in which is probably why some hold back their actions. As for Chanwoo, he does seem reserved but he did mention in another show that he likes to tease the hyungs and just suffer the consequences later lol. true maknae on top

I feel the same way as you PD. Their relationship and their group dynamic is different and i find it charming. It's relatable how their personalities clash so they end up doing things on their own or restricting themselves so as not to hurt others. But they know each other so well and accept each other's traits and are comfortable enough to mock each other about it. And the best part is that they show all of that exactly as it is on the camera.

i really love their group dynamic its really refreshing to see and i agree that they don't look like family or treat each other like it they're much more like just a group of close friends where everyone has different personalities and they like to irritate each other but also care very much for each other and i think that's a really special type of relationship within a kpop group that you don't normally see

i eel like ikon seem the most like actual brothers. They dont constantly hang out, they almost feel required to be around each other (not really, but its like if they weren't in ikon i feel like most of them wouldn't be friends), and they admit they get annoyed of each other and have a lot of ups and downs and sometimes are awkward haha.

Pd i relate to you about relying on lip reading to understand & hear people. while i’m not deaf in any way, i do have issues concentrating & focusing on sound. so it was not until the pandemic did i realise how much i relied on lip reading not just to hear & understand people but also to be able to focus on them & their words. that’s why face masks have also made me feel like a fool & have made it hard to be able to have conversations with people so much that i can’t even understand people who are standing right in front of me. i never heard much people talk about this struggle & again while i’m not deaf, i heavily rely on lip reading to be able to understand people :/

I've only known Ikon through Kingdom and I couldn't really grasp who they were (or that they were this funny). They do seem very close, but they also bicker and tease each other in ways I haven't seen other idol groups do which shows how different of a relationship they have. It's been so fun getting to know them through this show! I actually started watching this only recently after Yunhyeong's Songchelin Guide popped up on my YT homepage and I watched one of his videos :)

Their relationship is quit interesting in my perspective. I'd say they are close friends, but at the same time they are not like "you can always lean on others" kind of vibe. I'd say since their debut, maybe because the elders are more introvert or because they had went through too much cruel things or some reasons that were not aware by the public. They seem less likely to convey their emotions or share feelings with each others, which is not a bad thing I guess. Just as we usually see so many k-pop groups emphasizing they are "families", it's just not that common to see a group like iKON.

Anonymous

Selling a family image is not something I have seen with YG groups (which is ironic since they fall under the umbrella of YG family). But the members of Ikon get along well, and some are closer to one another than others (i.e. DK and Bobby are like brothers and treat each other as such/ Song and Chan annoy the heck out of each other but are quite close as well and seem to understand each other; Jay and Junhoe are actual friend...they spend a lot of time together even outside of group activities. They just don't broadcast their friendship/bond.

The problem is on Vimeo's end. A lot of older content is unavailable. PD already contacted Vimeo about it.
