McKenna

excited for your reaction to this one!!

Clarissa

Thank you so much for the content, I hope you had a great day too!! I guess that will be my first time watching a movie that‘s new for me with you 🥰

McKenna

james marsden (corny collins) is so good in everything he does! he’s also in enchanted which is one of my all time fave movie musicals! i also of course completely adore zac efron in this & i’m so glad he took this role because it’s the reason he learned to sing between hsm 1 & 2 :)

Myrelène

Thank you for this reaction. If you want new musicals to explore I really loved tick tick boom (on netflix) based on the life of Jonathan Larson :) its directed by Lin Manuel Miranda 😊

heather

i love this movie sm!! excited for the lemonade mouth reaction! and i’m so glad you appreciate zac lol he’s had me in a chokehold since HSM😭

Storm

I love this movie! So many bops, and it came out at the perfect time for chubby middle school me. Certain parts always get me - Inez singing about people in her neighborhood scraping by, of course all of I Know Where I’ve Been… So glad you reacted to it!

Dayana Estrada

The whole time while watching your reaction and you saying you recognized the guy who played Corny Collins I kept yelling at my screen that he’s from the notebook (I know you’ve mentioned that that movie is one of your favorites) and I was like “you know him”!!! LOL he plays allie’s fiancé in the notebook.

Susan Deans

Omg I was so happy watching this! This is one of my favourites! You should definitely check out the live version if you enjoyed it too!

Aubrey Mayes

Loved this! Thanks for reacting to Hairspray! It is one of my favorites!

I’m going to try to answer some of your questions while watching, so sorry if this gets long. The original Hairspray movie isn’t a musical, but the plot is the same. Years after it came out it was adapted for Broadway as a musical, then this movie got made a few years later. There’s also a live version of the stage show that aired on TV called Hairspray Live. Most musicals are pretty much like this one where the music is broken up with actual scenes of dialogue. The amount of songs differs form one show to the next. Somewhere between 15-20 songs is the average that I’ve noticed for movie musicals that were adapted from Broadway shows, but then there are some that are sung all the way through, like Les Miserbles or Hamilton. There are two traditions for Hairspray: Tracy is always played by an unknown actress, and Edna is always played by a man—this started because the role was originated by the drag queen Divine in the movie from the 80s. I love this cast, even the small roles are perfectly cast. Obviously Zac is great, and one of my favorite actors, but I think Queen Latifah kind of steals the show in this one. She’s also great in the movie version of the musical Chicago.

Musical Dinosaur

Loved this reaction & now I'm kinda desperate to see your reaction to Tick Tick Boom

Destiny Samuel

Love this reaction! Can’t wait for lemonade mouth now! I always find it so fun to watch people who know nothing about hairspray, watch it for the first time. They’re always immediately thrown off with the fact that it deals with race

Susana

for me Elijah Kelley who plays Seaweed was the one who stole the show for me

Rosie ♥︎

This makes me so happy!! Random film popped into my head. Watch the “lion, witch and the wardrobe”

Ashley Summerfield

Ariana Grande played the Amanda Bynes role "Penny" in a Hairspray Live tv version. I think it is available on Prime from time to time. So exited to see you dive deeper into the musical world. There is soooo much more to come.

florence

finally!! so glad to finally get your reaction to this musical, honestly this has been one of my faves since I watched it for the first time when I was a kid

Emma

this absolutely MADE my day!!! i watched at 5:30am after being woken up by an awful storm before going to work and it really lightened my mood, thank you Michael!!! ❤️

Mikayla

Come From Away next!! You’ll love the story behind the musical, it’s about the kindness of a Canadian town that took in diverted passengers during 9/11, it’s very heartfelt. Idk I just get the vibe that you share a lot of the morals that the show does. 💓 Thank you for this reaction, it’s nice watching musicals with someone even if it’s through a screen :)

Vivian Betancourt

YEEEES I LOVE THIS!!! you should react to Tick, tick...boom! its based on the life of Jonathan Larsson who's the creator of RENT, Andrew Garfield start it and its just mind blowing!!!

Miks

I agree! I think he would love Come From Away and the messages in it! I hope one day he will check it out

Emmy Lou

I feel like this movie and Bob Dylan’s song “The Times They Are A-Changin’ ” have the same message.

Sandra Svensson

The Notebook!! Can't you hear me screaming The Notebook?! Haha! This is such a good one. Haven't seen it since it came out. Loving it! Really happy vibes!

evie w

the girl who played little inez is actually one of ariana grandes best friends! her name is tayla parx and she wrote the whole thank u next album + has a music career of her own shes so fantastic !! she performs thank u next on ellen with ariana

Fern Silverman

I’ve watched both the 1988 and 2007 versions of Hairspray multiple times but it was a true joy to watch the movie with you. Your reactions always bring a fresh perspective to works I already love. Thank you.

Ursula

She also had a credit on 'Sweet Melody' by Little Mix

Caitlin Goerlich

I'm so glad you reacted to this. I actually haven't watched it in sooo long. I'm not a Nikki Blonsky (who played Tracy) fan. There was a lot of like drama with her or something. Also, she like became sorta obsessed with Zac afterwards (us Zanessa fans didn't like her lol). So, I think that held me back from watching it more often but I wanted to check out your reaction to it. But anyways, everyone else in the movie I love. Zac (obviously), James Marsden (Corny Collins who was also in 27 Dresses, Enchanted, The Notebook, and so many others), Brittany Snow (Amber), Michelle Pfieffer (Amber's mom [she's another big star along with Travolta and Walken]), John Travolta (are you seriously telling me you never seen Grease???? You need to watch that), Elijah (Seaweed [he was my favorite character]), Queen Latifah, and Christopher Walken. I was obssessed with Amanda Bynes back in the day. With All That, The Amanda Show, What A Girl Wants, What I Like About You. Obsessed. So she sorta had a public breakdown a couple years ago. She retired from acting after she did Easy A and hasn't been the same since. The last I heard, though, was she was doing well and she's going to fashion school and might do some acting again. I hope she does. I miss her on the screen. Great reaction! But seriously, you need to watch Grease (especially before you watch Grease: LIVE [if you do that one]). High School Musical was considered our generation's Grease. Basically the same storyline. Two people meet on vacation and then run into each other at school. Great music. John Travolta kills it as Danny. Definitely recommend.

Richard

One of my favorite musicals. You should watch Chicago with Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Or if you to see Travolta younger he was in Grease too.

labyrinthpeaches

I love this movie so much, glad you enjoyed it too! :D

Kerryn Simmons

Bummed you didn’t watch the original which in my opinion is far superior. Then you could have watched Cry Baby. John Waters is a genius.

Alexander

i know it didn’t win the polls, but if you ever plan on watching dear evan hansen PLEASE find a bootleg of it to watch first before the movie adaptation!!! it is a really good movie but they DEFINITELY changed a Lot of it to be more palatable for hollywood typical larger audiences. the way the musical depicts severe mental illness is harsh but is absolutely 100% realistic, and in the movie they dropped the severity of it by like at least half (because hollywood is always scared of being “too realistic” or “too harsh” or “too much” of anything), which upsets me a lot as someone that really could relate to the severity of the choices they make due to their struggles. in the movie evan is honestly a MUCH easier character to hate because of how much they dropped the severity of his own mental illnesses and childhood and past experiences, and in turn they made connor much easier to like by changing his childhood and past life experiences, which is what is most upsetting to me. if you need a good bootleg (the ones on youtube aren’t super great) i have an entire google drive folder full of them and can totally offer some links!! most big deh fans probably have the same links from the folder, it’s pretty widespread among the right groups of fans. this was a phenomenal video, i can’t wait to see what musical you choose to do next !!!

Prem Parekh

Woah! Mind sharing this google drive lmao? I have been trying to find so many bootlegs

Carrie Schwent

If you enjoyed seeing John Travolta as a woman, than you ABSOLUTELY must see "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar" it starts Patrick Swayze, John Leguizamo and Wesley Snipes as 3 drag queens who go on a road trip to a drag competition and get stranded in a very small town. All 3 actors look AMAZING in drag!! It's one of my favorite movies.

Bangtan is life

I’m surprised no one mentioned Grease , like come on guys😂 it’s John Travolta’s most iconic movies and it’s the most iconic musical!

Bangtan is life

And Michelle Pfeiffer, gosh I love her! I know Stardust isn’t popular, but I think it’s really good!

Bangtan is life

I think you might’ve confused James Marsden with Brandon Ruth 😅 James did play in that Superman movie but he didn’t play Superman
