I'm still dealing with the sewer situation, and boy howdy is *that* getting much simpler and easier to handle by the day (this is my thickest possible sarcasm) but I managed to get Quick Start #5 out the door. I'll figure out a proper name tomorrow, hopefully.

This one was a real pain to put together because the Qosmio itself has a bunch of Quirks And Features I really wanted to cover, but I tried to shoot my original script (12,000+ words) and it was such a slog, I had to go back and cut out a fifth of it just to make it work. I thought about coming up with some 10 minute super fast video format to take care of what was left, but later I decided to just post a short with the two dumbest features and that's probably good enough.

One common BIOS vendor I’ve seen these days is something called InsydeH2O - HP uses it quite a lot going back many years. Not sure if it’s a fault of Insyde or not but they usually have bugger all options to play with.

Still watching through the video, excellent so far! I did want to throw in a theory that since it's a Toshiba and I believe Minidisc was still used heavily in Japan at the time, the SPIF digital audio out let you digitally copy audio CD to MD. You could just let the CD play and the MD recorder would break up the songs automatically during the silence between tracks. I'm not entirely sure if this is the right timeframe though.

2:50 "Have you ever found yourself needing a monitor in a pinch." There was this one time while at FPC Geiger (Spokane) in about 1992-ish where another resident was getting interviewed for a documentary about her crime, and the video crew's monitor died. The guards knew I had some electronic chops so I brought down my Commodore SX-64 and unplugged it's 5" JVC monitor and directly fed in their composite video so they could keep taping. FPC Geiger wasn't your normal Federal Prison Camp back then.

Leaving your job was the right move. You seem a lot better.

Hey so I know this isn't actually relevant to the Qosmio but... that Terminator 2 DVD you talked about - I did some searching and apparently the WMV files on it were encrypted with DRM. As far as I know it's not possible to decrypt WMV DRM anymore (if you can even play it at all!) Do you happen to have decrypted copies of those files? I assure you I own multiple copies of Terminator 2, like how you own multiple copies of Riven ;) I think I even have that exact DVD you have, just had never tried to view the files on my PC.

Regarding the not advertising the 'pause live TV' feature, I can only assume that was the doing, or fear of, the MPAA's wrath. Oh sure, TiVo and its competitors could do that, but they were Appliances; the video was never gonna leave them. This is a Computer, which supports arbitrary file copies, which means it is a Piracy Machine. (This is a fascinating series and I'm astonished it has as many episodes as it does!)

Just came here to say - absolutely loving this series :)
