Chapter 7: First Day as an Adventurer
Following behind the redhead, we entered a private room with two couches in the middle with the redhead sitting on one before turning to look at me.
“Please take a seat so we can begin.” Her tone and expression were a lot softer than yesterdays with her eyes not having the same aloof expression as before.
“I got the papers signed like you asked.” I took a seat and handed the werewolf the signed documents while giving her a bright smile in greeting.
Rose only nodded with the same expression before taking the documents and looking them over with an experienced eye. A minute later she seemed satisfied and put them away before picking up the bag and dagger by her and handing them out to me.
“Here is the starter kit like requested. It comes with 5 low tier health potions, a decent dagger and a map of the first five floors. If you’re planning on heading to the dungeon today, I recommend you stick with the first floor and no higher until you get more experience. Many an adventurer has met their end by not listening and heading deeper and getting overrun.”
“Now, will you be needing a detailed explanation on what to expect down there?” Even though her expression remained the same I noticed her eyes seemed to soften with worry as she all but pleaded with her eyes to agree to her lessons.
With a smile I took the bag and dagger off her hands and handed her the 2000 valis required for them. “I would be very grateful if I could take some of your time to learn what you have to teach me about the dungeon Rose.” I saw Rose make the tiniest of smiles before it disappeared and she nodded silently.
Rose began her lecture about the dungeon and all the monsters I would be encountering in each floor, telling me their weak spots and what to watch out for. When she finally finished her lecture, she looked at me and seemed pleased to see me paying attention to her.
“Do you have any questions for me before you leave?”
“No, I believe you went over everything. Thank you Rose! I’ll be counting on you from now on!” I shook my head and smiled happily at the werewolf.
“I’m only doing my job. You don’t have anything to be thankful for. If you really want to thank me don’t die.” The last words were said in a quiet whisper and with more emotion than I had seen from her throughout our conversation.
“Of course, I won’t die! I want to continue our lessons after all!” I saw as her face softened and a small smile broke across her face.
“Good, make sure to come back as I have much more to teach you.”
“Thanks again! I’ll make sure to stop by after my trip to the dungeon.” I stood up and offered my hand to Rose for a handshake.
The werewolf took my hand before shaking it slowly as a small blush grew on cheeks.
“Make sure you do! I’ll see you later… Take care of yourself!” With some reluctance she let go of my hand and looked at me with a little worry.
“I’ll see you later Rose!” I grabbed the starter kit before stepping out of the room with a last wave and smile.
‘Alright, next stop. The dungeon.’
Before too long we came upon the doors to the underground room that held the real entrance to the dungeon. The room was circular with descending stairs that spiraled down to a hole at the center that served as the entrance to the dungeon. My eyes couldn’t help but be drawn to the ceiling as we descended, appreciating the beautiful azure painting that resembled the sky.
Finally reaching the doors to the proper dungeon I stopped for a moment with my hand coming to rest on Est’s pommel.
“Are you ready Est?”
“I’m with you Reinhard. Always!”
With our spirits high, I took the first step into the dungeon with Est giving off a soft hum in my hand.
=====
(Freya POV)
She found him.
She had finally found him.
The one she had spent countless years looking for. The reason she had descended to the mortal realm. The one who was destined to stand forever by her side.
Her Odr.
Their meeting had been one of pure chance and at a time when she was thinking about going on a trip outside Orario to continue her search. Truly it seemed as if the very stars and planets had aligned just for that moment when she met his beautiful blue eyes and felt her soul and heart become intertwined with his own.
He was beautiful beyond compare with his vibrant red hair and fierce blue eyes. Just remembering his features caused her to shudder in pleasure and a need arose inside her that became impossible to quench.
A feeling that rose to a roaring flame when she finally caught sight of his soul.
The word beautiful was not enough to describe it. In fact, no word would ever be able to fully grasp the majesty of the soul she had witnessed.
Usually, souls were one color and Freya had seen them all in her long life. While someone’s soul may change over the course of their life due to many different circumstances, the fact remained that everyone was supposed to only have one color.
Reinhard’s soul however, broke that rule.
His soul was in fact made out of 3 colors! Arranged in such a way that they portrayed seven different colors in total. The closest she could describe it was taking 3 circles, colored blue, red and green, and having them all interlap with each other.
When blue met red you got magenta. Red and green made yellow and blue and greed cyan. And in the middle where the three colors interacted was the color white.
Continuing on with the beauty of his soul, Freya could feel that it was strong, much stronger than many in her own Familia and would only continue to grow in the future.
It was as if the world itself loved her Odr and gifted him anything he wanted.
All in all, Freya had become instantly enamored with Reinhard’s soul, never before seeing such a beautiful sight before and knowing she would never encounter it in anyone else again.
That’s why Freya had to have him.
There was not a doubt in her heart and mind that Reinhard was truly the one she was searching for and she would do everything in her power to make sure that Reinhard fell in love with her.
‘Maybe I could make a bento for him? He didn’t deny being an adventurer last time and I’m sure he would appreciate having something to eat while he’s down at the dungeon. I wonder what kind of foods he likes?’
=====
(Regular POV)
The sounds of battle and monsters dying could be heard throughout a long green corridor illuminated by the phosphorescence coming from the ceiling. If any adventurer came along, they would see a pack of war shadows and killer ants surrounding a red-haired teen dressed in white in the middle of the corridor.
The teen was rather tall with an athletic build holding a beautiful silver and gold sword with a blue handle in one hand and a black spear with a blue ribbon in the other.
“Hmhmhm this is rather exciting~ Maybe I was a battle junkie without even knowing it in my first life?” I felt exhilarated to be down here and fighting monsters.
Even if they were all weak and died in droves with a single swing of my blade or throw of my ‘spear’, I was actually having a good time and was enjoying myself.
‘Maybe because there’s no one I know in danger of dying?’
Dismissing such thoughts, my smile grew in size and I launched myself forward with my hands becoming blurs as I dealt with all the monsters that had me surrounded.
I was already on the 7th floor having made quick work of every floor before me with ease using that time to try out all my different weapons. On the way here I had discovered that Yuuya´s insane luck also translated into loot as I had found a bunch of dropped items from a bunch of monsters but the biggest catch had been the Jack Bird I had found and killed.
Thanks to my first purchase of Information Defense, I had remained undetected to the bird until it was too late. Actually, that worked for every monster that didn´t have me in their line of sight so it had been somewhat easy to ambush enemies.
Not that I actually needed to of course, the monsters being so weak so far.
´I´m glad I have an inventory. It would have been a pain to be carrying all these from floor to floor.’ I thought in relief as I picked up all the dropped magic stones and dropped items and threw them in my Item Box.
Storing the Arrow of Orion into my inventory I held up my left hand and concentrated feeling the magical pathways running through my body that I had gotten thanks to Yuuya’s template.
A moment later a ball of fire appeared on my hand bringing a smile to my face before willing it away and a ball of water to replace it seconds later.
“Good, seems my magic is working as intended.” With a satisfied nod, I continued forward making my way deeper into the dungeon.
‘I think floor 12 will be my target for today before heading back.’
=====
(Third POV)
Making their way down the street drawing the eyes of many an adventurer were the forms of two beautiful girls that could be nothing other than goddesses from the slight aura of divinity that they unconsciously released.
The girls were none other than Hestia and Artemis and they were currently making their way towards Hephaistos’s workplace all the while ignoring everything around them.
Curiously enough though to those who knew said goddesses, there was something different about them today. Hestia was wearing a pair of white and blue hair ties with bells attached to them and her hair was now done up in twin-tails. Artemis on the other hand was now wearing a silver crescent moon necklace with a green jewel in the middle.
A few minutes later they finally reached their destination and were now standing in front of the goddess of smithing’s door with Hestia barging in unannounced after making sure that their friend was alone.
“Hephaistos! I need your help!”
“I will not lend you even a single vali! If that’s what you’re here for then you’re wasting your time Hestia.” Hephaistos didn’t even look up from reading some papers as she immediately responded to Hestia.
“Hihihi hello Hephaistos, it’s good to see you. Sorry for just barging in like this.” The voice of Artemis spoke next with a small smile on her face grabbing the redhead’s attention and causing her to look up in surprise.
“Artemis. What a pleasant surprise.” The redhead put down the papers she was going over in her desk and greeted the goddess before a concerned look appeared on her face. “Not to sound like I don’t want to see you, but what are you doing here in Orario? Did something happen to the seal?”
At the mention of the seal a brief look of despair could be seen on the bluenette’s face before she shook it off and took a seat in front of Hephaistos’s desk with Hestia joining her a moment later.
“The seal is fine, or to be more precise, the seal no longer matters since the monster Antares has been taken care of but it came at a price.” The moon goddess revealed with a solemn look on her face thinking about her dead Familia members.
“I see. I’m sorry for your loss.” Looking slightly uncomfortable now at bringing up sore topics, Hephaistos turned to the until now silent Hestia and coughed into her hand deciding it was best to change the conversation. “So, Hestia, what did you need? Be aware that my previous words still stand unless its Artemis asking for money since I know she will pay me back.”
Looking offended at such a remark but also relieved at the change in topic, Hestia gave her friend an annoyed look.
“How rude! I don’t want any money! What do you take me for? I’ll have you know that I’m not the same Goddess from before. I have my own Familia now and my Rein-kun said he’ll provide for me from now on.”
“Huhuhu my Rein-kun is so amazing that before you know it, we’ll have a house as big as yours!” Hestia proudly puffed up her chest at finally getting the chance to brag to Hephaistos now that she had her own Familia not aware of the twitching eyebrow from the goddess beside her when she claimed Reinhard as hers.
“I see, sounds like you might have found a rare gem in that child of yours. I have never seen you this happy before, back in Tenkai you were a loner that spent most of her time in that temple of yours. Nevertheless, congratulations are in order then! But if you’re not here to mooch money off me, what can I do for you?” Hephaistos congratulated her looking truly happy for her friend.
“We had a question for you! Can you please teach us how to lock the Falna? Rein-kun got a rare skill and I don’t want some nosy goddess to take an interest in him. Especially that flat chest Loki!” Normally Hestia wouldn’t even mention the fact that Reinhard had a rare skill but she and Artemis knew they could trust Hephaistos as they had known her for a very long time.
The goddess in question raised an eyebrow in slight interest before turning to Artemis as if asking if that was true.
“Hestia is correct. I myself never learned how to do it and since we hadn’t seen each other in a while I decided to accompany her.”
“Very well then. Though Hestia, weren’t you paying attention when I explained this to you months ago? Honestly you can be such a klutz sometimes. Fine, I’ll teach you but pay attention this time. Now regarding your child, I won’t ask but be careful, I have known some gods and goddesses that like plucking interesting children from weak Familias.” In the end the redhead relented silently pleased that her friend was finally taking things seriously.
Hestia stood up from her seat and threw her hands up in the air in a cheer. “I will! Thanks Hephaistos, I love you!”
“Yeah yeah, consider this my gift for finally getting a Familia. How did you find this Rein of yours anyway? Did you finally get desperate enough to corner someone that he took pity on you and agreed to join?”
Looking as if someone had punched her in the gut, Hestia fell back down on her chair while looking at her friend with a teary-eyed face. A moment later Hestia pulled herself together and stood up again while pointing at Hephaistos with a haughty look on her face.
“Ha! For your information, my Rein-kun pledged himself to me. Just like those knights in the stories that the children in the lower world write about where the hero pledges his sword to their goddess huhuhu! My Rein-kun even promised to take care of me and all my needs including cooking delicious meals for me!” The petite goddess boasted passionately about her child still not aware of the now pouting goddess beside her.
“Hmph! I found him first.” Unable to help herself, Artemis found herself muttering those words to the surprise of the redhead who heard her.
Deciding to keep her mouth shut for now, Hephaistos congratulated her friend again before finally beginning her lesson.
During the explanation Hephaistos couldn’t help but notice that while Hestia and Artemis were paying attention, they couldn’t help but look at her eyepatch from time to time with thoughtful looks on their faces.
“I hope you two got all that because I’m not explaining again if you’re not going to bother to pay attention. I somewhat expected this from Hestia but what has you so distracted Artemis?” In the end Hephaistos decided she might as well ask what was going through their minds instead of guessing.
At the redhead’s question, Hestia and Artemis turned to look at one another and seemingly had a silent conversation for a minute before turning back to the redhead with determined looks on their faces.
“Hephaistos, what if we told you there was a way to completely heal your eye with no negative consequences and the only requirement was for you to keep silent on how it was done?” Artemis watched as one of her oldest friends froze in shock for a moment before looking at them seriously and with a little anger in her eye.
“She’s telling the truth. I promise.” Hestia jumped in defense making the redhead blink and for a frown to grow on her face.
“Explain.”
“You have to promise first to not reveal what we are about to tell you to anyone else, at least for a while.” Artemis shook her head with a serious look on her face.
“Haah, fine. Since you two are being so secretive and with your request about hiding a Falna, I’m going to assume that this person with the miracle cure or skill is none other than your new child Hestia? And you somehow also know him Artemis?” The redhead seeing their serious looks relented and took a guess looking a little bewildered at how protective Artemis was being towards a male knowing her reputation.
“That’s correct. You see, I was the one who actually met Reinhard first and he’s the reason I’m even speaking to you right now instead of being back in Tenkai.” Artemis revealed to the shock of the redhead.
“What? I’m going to need some details, please?”
“You see…”
And so, another Goddess was brought into the fold about the teen known as Reinhard and his extraordinary abilities. Of course, not everything was shared and only his ability to heal and some of his skills were told to the redhead.
“So let me get this straight. This child has the ability to restore and heal any wound ranging from medical conditions, unwanted body hair, disease, missing limbs and genetic irregularities?” Hephaistos asked in an incredulous tone and letting out an unladylike snort when she was met with nods from the both of them.
“As if that was not already impossible enough, this child was also the one who singlehandedly killed Antares and saved Artemis from certain death.”
“Yes / Yep.”
Shaking her head at their simple response, Hephaistos let out a tired sigh and leaned back in her chair. “Haah, if I didn’t know you two personally and trusted your judgement, I would have called you liars.”
“I see the need for secrecy now, if any other god or goddess ever learns of this, they would stop at nothing to take him from you. Even I’m slightly tempted.”
“Umm” Hestia only let out a somewhat awkward smile appear on her face at the last comment and Artemis only nodded her head in agreement already knowing this.
“Relax, if this actually works and I’m healed, then I would have nothing but gratitude towards your Rein-kun. Unfortunately, however our meeting will have to wait as my kids are going on an expedition soon and I’ll be busy for the next week.” Hephaistos shook her head sadly, as if lamenting at having to wait so long.
“Okay I’ll let Rein-kun know so he can take a day off the dungeon. See you in a week Hephaistos and thanks again for everything!” Hestia happily thanked her friend with a smile on her face.
“Thank you for agreeing to our request Hephaistos. It was also fun catching up with an old friend.” Artemis followed standing up from her seat and bowing in thanks to the redhead.
With nothing more to say Hestia and Artemis left the Hephaistos’s workshop with the knowledge that by helping their dear friend, they would also be helping Reinhard gather more points so he could better protect himself.
