Chapter 30: The Beginning and the End
“Hah, nothing beats the air of a new island~” I let out with a huge grin on my face as we had just managed to make land on Loguetown.
“Hm, this town looks big enough. I should be able to find some good swords here.” Zoro muttered to himself to my side with a thoughtful look.
“Leave the food gathering to me! I’ll make sure to find something nice, Nami-swan, Tiche-chwan~” Sanji declared happily as he tried to suck up to said girls.
Tiche ignored him while Nami just waved him away with practiced ease before focusing on Zoro and letting a catlike grin grow on her face.
“Hey Zoro! I heard what you said. The question is, how do you expect to pay for that?” she asked with a teasing smile as she walked up to him while rubbing her hands happily, causing Zoro to break into a sweat.
“This is a good place to stock up on some gadgets.” Usopp said with a grin.
“Off to the Execution Platform I go! See you later, everyone!” I declared happily with my hands thrown in the air, but just as I took the first step, a hand came down and grabbed the back of my cardigan in a tight grip.
“And just where do you think you’re going?” Nami’s sweet voice greeted my ears, causing me to freeze at the tone of her voice. I slowly turned to look at her, ignoring the way Zoro breathed a sigh of relief, nodded at me in thanks, and then went on his way without another word.
“Umm,” I muttered a bit nervously, definitely not liking the look Nami was giving me. “To the platform?” I repeated again, this time phrasing it like a question as I pointed off to the center of town.
“Not without first accompanying me and Tiche shopping first you aren’t!” Nami declared with a stern look on her face and narrowed eyes.
Looking toward Tiche, I saw that she appeared as surprised as I was and turned to Nami again with a blink, only to stop whatever I wanted to say at her narrowed eyes that were practically challenging me to contradict her.
“Nami-swan! Pick me! I would be delighted to accompany you ladies!” Sanji yelled in the background, but we both ignored him at the same time.
“…I guess I’m going with you and Tiche then.” I said instead, getting her expression to do a 180 and smile happily at me.
“Perfect~ Let’s go, Tiche! Luffy will be carrying our clothes today!” Nami declared as she grabbed Tiche by the arm and started leading her along while I followed along behind them.
‘What’s the point of giving her an Inventory ability if I’m still going to be used as a pack mule?’ I thought in despair once more, ignoring the scathing glare Sanji was shooting at me.
“Damn you, Luffy!”
‘I’ll never understand women.’ I thought while giving Tiche a small twitching smile when I saw her look back at me with a regretful look on her face.
=====
A Few Hours Later
‘Kill me now…’ Buried under a pile of women’s clothes of all types, that was the only thought that kept repeating in my head as the clothes I was forced to carry kept increasing.
With our money problems mostly handled now thanks to Jewel the goose, the first thing that we had done upon hitting the town was finding a place to trade the golden eggs that had accumulated over time.
Luckily, with us being in the golden pirate era, there was never a shortage of places where one might trade their goods, ill-begotten or gotten fairly, on most towns.
At least it had been amusing seeing the guy tending us giving us weird looks when Nami showed him all the eggs made out of pure gold.
‘Well that, and getting to see both Nami and Tiche in different clothes as they modeled for me.’ I thought with a bit of a perverted smile.
Several million Berry richer, we left the place in a happy mood before that mood was all but drained out of my soul as Nami began taking me store to store, and buying mountains of clothes and even picking out some for Tiche herself.
Since we obviously couldn’t use our Inventory ability in a public setting, both because we wanted to keep it a secret to only those among the crew and because showing off such an ability might be dangerous in a town run by the Marines, that obviously left me as the only man to carry their clothes.
We couldn’t even stop for a moment to go to some alley so I could deposit their clothes and continue either, as Nami just pulled me along to the next store when we were done with one.
Letting out a despairing sigh as I trailed behind the girls, I became confused when instead of leading me into the next store, I was instead led to an alleyway and blinked.
“Alright, I think that’s enough forcing you to accompany us.” Nami said while letting out an amused smile, causing me to slump my shoulders in relief.
“Thank goodness.” I couldn’t help but let out with an explosive sigh before depositing everything in my arms in my Inventory, causing it to disappear.
“Hihihi, thanks for being such a good sport, Luffy.” Nami said suddenly in my personal space, and surprising me a bit, she leaned up and gave me a kiss on the cheek in front of Tiche.
She wasn’t done though as she pulled me even closer before whispering in my ear. “Meet me up when you’re done and we can spend some quality time alone as a reward~” she purred, her voice now coming out sensually and extremely sexy, causing my shorts to immediately tighten.
My eyes immediately traveled to Tiche, who with her profession had really sharp hearing, so she must have obviously heard that. She caught my gaze and then turned away with a slight flush on her cheeks, proving my point.
Looking down at Nami, I found myself nodding unconsciously, and the minx only made things worse for me by smiling sultrily and giving a cute wink before walking away with a sway of her magnificent hips.
Tiche managed to raise her head long enough to give me a small nod before going after Nami, leaving me alone in the alley.
“…Damn, I’m one lucky son of a bitch.” I muttered to myself with a silly grin before shaking it off and turning the opposite direction.
“Well, as they say, work first and then pleasure.” With those words I finally made my way where Roger had died with a skip in my step and a whistle on my lips.
Or at least I tried to anyways.
It only took me a few minutes for the real size of this place to settle, and another few for me to completely lose track of where I was and end up completely lost.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” I muttered to myself incredulously as no matter where I looked I didn’t see any recognizable landmark.
“Don’t tell me I’m turning into Zoro now.” I despaired, not liking the comparison at all.
Having no other choice, I let my feet drag me in a random direction before blinking as I saw a bar named Gold Roger Bar up ahead.
“Wait, isn’t that only from the anime?” I wondered to myself quietly as I found my feet already walking toward it. “Does this mean that anime-only events will happen too?”
If I was being completely honest, while some part of me wanted that to happen, a major part said no, with that idiot that held the Slow-Slow Fruit that liked to challenge others to Davy Back Fights being one of the main examples.
‘What the hell was his name again?’
“Oh well, if that happens I just have to punch his face in before he gets a word in.” I shrugged casually as I entered the bar, where I enjoyed a pleasant drink with the man running it.
Before leaving, I made sure to ask proper directions to the execution platform and said farewell to the old man, who while grouchy, I had taken a liking to.
Knowing where to go now, my trip to my destination only took a couple of minutes before a huge platform greeted my eyes in the middle of a plaza and I came to a stop before it.
“Whew, you could at least say that Roger had a nice view before he died.” I whistled with an impressed tone.
Wanting to have a better view, I stretched my hand to the edge before ricocheting myself up it and took in the view myself.
“Yep, I say as far as last places to die goes, this one is not bad at all.” I grinned, already picturing how many people must have been present for the event as Gol D. Roger set off the Golden Age of Piracy with just a few words.
My enjoyment was suddenly cut short by a shout coming from below.
“Hey! Get down from there! Nobody is allowed to be up there!”
Looking down, I saw a normal Marine-looking guy as the one responsible while looking at me with an expression half angry and half resigned. As if he had to deal with these kinds of things on a regular basis.
Unfortunately for the Marine, that was all he managed to say before his face was smashed by a huge and very familiar mace belonging to a beautiful woman with long black hair, dark-green eyes, and fair skin.
“Hey there, handsome~ Long time no see.” The woman smiled up at me in a flirty way while cocking her hip to the side, emphasizing her figure and huge breasts.
“…Alvida?” I asked with a raised eyebrow, honestly not having expected this at all, as there was no way of knowing if Alvida would still go on to find the same Devil Fruit this time around since I had launched her in a random direction.
“Huhuhu, I’m glad you recognize me. You are after all the only man that has ever laid his hands on me~” Alvida said with a smirk as she used her free hand not holding the mace and ran it slowly down her body.
“I honestly didn’t expect to ever see you again if I’m being completely honest.” I muttered with a shake of my head, ridding myself of the mental image of Alvida that popped up with a small shudder.
“I must say, I like the changes.” I complimented while giving her a thumbs up and a grin, as anything was better than the mini whale she looked like before.
“Why thank you~ Thanks to the Smooth-Smooth Fruit that I found after our last encounter, all the freckles I had are now gone.” She said with a haughty expression as she grabbed her face, looking flattered.
“…Yeah, let’s go with that.” I muttered with a sweat drop at the ego of this woman to either ignore or completely block how she used to look.
As we were talking, the previously mostly empty plaza slowly filled up with people and Marines alike that I ignored in favor of seeing what Alvida had to say.
“Ahem, anyway. Is there something you wanted from me?” I asked with a raised eyebrow before narrowing my eyes a bit as I felt the presences that had been following her get even closer.
‘Tsk, so he didn’t learn his lesson.’ I thought silently in annoyance.
“I like strong men like you. I wanted to see how you handle adversity and whether you’re really worthy for me to follow.” She said with a mysterious smile.
As soon as she said that, Cabaji, one of Buggy’s officers, dropped down from above with a set of stocks intending to obviously trap me.
Rolling my eyes at the predictable ambush, I casually took a step back, causing Cabaji to land in front of me with a confused look on his face before my foot met his face the next second and he was sent flying into the plaza below.
“Cabaji!” Came a very familiar and annoying voice as one of the people slowly crowding into the plaza took off their hood, revealing themselves to be none other than Buggy the Clown.
“Strawhat, you bastard!” Buggy was quick to turn his anger toward me, causing most of the civilians to run away screaming once they realized who it was.
“Do you have any idea how much I’ve been through since you sent me flying last time!?” Buggy asked with an angry tone.
“Don’t know, don’t care.” I gave a careless shrug, only making the clown angrier.
“Why you!” Almost frothing at the mouth now at my casual dismissal, Buggy gritted his teeth so hard I heard them grind from my position before he pointed at me. “Stop and listen to what I have to say, you rubber bastard!”
“Don’t want to.” I once more casually dismissed him while picking my nose, worsening his mood.
Already dismissing him though, I let my gaze travel toward another direction where a tall Marine with white hair and smoking several cigars slowly made his way into the plaza as well.
“So you’re ‘Strawhat’ Monkey D. Luffy.” What could only be Smoker, the Captain in charge of Loguetown, asked me in a relaxed manner before blowing out some smoke. “You’re under arrest.”
“It’s a Marine Captain!” one of Buggy’s henchmen yelled in fright, causing the others to panic as well.
The plaza was now crowded with people, including civilians, pirates, and Marines alike, who were all looking up at me being the center of attention. From a bit of a distance I even felt Zoro and Sanji’s presences slowly approaching.
Grinning at all the chaos around me, I couldn’t help but start laughing happily as I held my straw hat.
‘Well, while it is not as impactful as the original of laughing in the face of death before being miraculously saved by lightning, this will do.’
Taking a huge breath in, I made a pose before yelling for everyone to hear.
“My name is Monkey D. Luffy! And I’m going to become King of the Pirates! Shishishi!”
As soon as I finished saying that, a huge bolt of lightning descended on top of me, causing an explosion as silence descended over the packed plaza.
Pulling myself out of the wreckage moments later, unharmed of course due to my skin being made of rubber, I was a bit surprised that something remained intact even after the changes I had made.
‘Also, that lightning was definitely not normal.’ The lightning had come way too fast for me to properly react and it caught me off guard since I couldn’t sense it.
When it hit me though, there was something strange about the lightning I could sense, as if it was not natural, and I immediately made the guess that it must come from someone’s Devil Fruit.
“Well, guess I must say thanks for giving my speech some proper lightshow, Father. If that was really you.” I muttered under my breath.
A moment later the noise resumed and I looked up to see Zoro and Sanji making quick work of both pirate and Marine alike as they headed in a straight line toward me. The former now holding two new swords at his sides, letting me know he had been successful in getting new blades.
“Time to leave, it seems.” I grinned again, and giving the plaza one last glance, my eyes catching a head of green hair in specific who was looking at me with a dumbfounded look, I let out a laugh and yelled again.
“To the Grand Line!”
