Chapter 10: Solo No More

A Month Later

“I can’t believe it took me this long to do this.” I muttered to myself while perched on a roof, using the scope of my sniper rifle to look down into the Biotechnica R&D facility.

After weeks of building up a good reputation, meeting most of the Fixers in NC I had known in the game, saving up a bunch of eddies, being the typical hoarder, and of course killing a bunch of scumbag corpos.

At the moment I was planning to sneak into the facility in the distance after hearing some interesting rumors from various sources.

If I was lucky, I might be able to find some animals they had been cloning there and see if I could get some abilities.

Some part of me toyed with the idea of messing with a bit of cloning of my own since I had the knowledge, but that was honestly too much work.

I was the type of guy that preferred to leave such things for others, preferably some minions of my own once I got some at least.

Without wasting any more time, I shot the cameras into the building before quickly storing my sniper in my Inventory and rushing my way inside.

Wanting to lean into the whole demon/devil thing, I had modified a helmet that covered my whole face and added some horns into it.

Thanks to the speed I had, I was a literal blur as I made my way inside while either snapping the neck of anyone in my way or shooting them in the face.

It took until my fifth kill before the alarms started blaring everywhere, but I paid them no heed and continued my bloody path.

“It’s the demon! Kill him!”

Once they realized who I was, security started appearing in high numbers and armed to the teeth in the best guns and chrome money could buy.

Knowing my stamina wasn’t unlimited no matter how much I wished it was, I only killed those in my way before eventually reaching a room with a bunch of animals held inside some glass.

Wedging the door behind me so I could have a little time to do my thing, I immediately started looking around at the animals gathered.

There was a cow, even if it was misshapen and looked almost begging to be killed. Next there was a chicken, a pig, a cat, and finally an iguana of all things.

Deciding to put them out of their misery, I didn’t waste any time and shot every single one, killing them. Unfortunately only one of them netted me any kind of reward.

[Usurper Activated!]

[Only one ability to Usurp]

·      Slight regeneration – Can regenerate small wounds and grow back a lost finger or toe.

“That’s what I’m talking about!” I cheered quietly to myself before hearing the door behind me break open and more security burst in.

“You’re surrounded! Tell us who you’re working for!?” The one that seemed to be in charge demanded as he and the other guards pointed their rifles at me.

“Yorinobu sends his regards.” I muttered with a hidden smirk behind my mask before throwing a few grenades their way and then hightailing it out of there as explosions were heard behind me.

Now that I was wholly concentrating on escaping, it didn’t take me long until I escaped the facility and successfully lost their trail.

With my task done, I made my way home, pleased at the results. Along with the regeneration ability, I had also gotten more knowledge of various fields of study, making me that much more competent of a scientist.

Just as I was about to reach home, I got a call from Gloria, making me confused since I had just seen her several hours ago.

“Hey, Gloria. Did you—”

I couldn’t finish my greeting as Gloria’s clearly distraught voice met my ears.

“Lucius! Please help! I-It’s David!” Gloria spoke in a rush, her voice filled with worry.

‘Did he kick the bucket or something?’ I thought silently to myself, obviously not asking her that.

“Please calm down and explain properly. What about David?” I asked with a calm voice as I finally made it to my apartment and went inside.

I heard Gloria take a couple of deep breaths before speaking again.

“David got into a fight in school with the son of an important corpo and they beat up my baby so bad he needs medical attention asap, but I don’t have nearly enough saved up. They’re telling me he will need extensive surgery.” Gloria explained, still in a worried tone and letting out a few sniffles.

‘Tsk. That little shit is still giving her problems, huh?’ I thought in annoyance with a roll of my eyes.

A big part of me was kind of hoping for the kid to have actually died and finally let the woman live her own life, but alas.

Pulling out my Agent, I transferred 30k eddies to Gloria before speaking to her again.

“Will that be enough?” I asked, showing none of my annoyance at having to spend my money for someone other than Gloria.

There was a pause for a second before I heard Gloria again, this time sounding extremely relieved and thankful.

“Y-Yes. This should be more than enough. T-Thank you, Lucius. You don’t know how much this means to me. I’ll forever be in your debt.” Gloria thanked me in a teary and emotional voice.

‘Heh. Now that’s what I like to hear. I thought happily as I lay down on my couch and popped open a beer. Now I don’t feel so bad for helping that little shit, since it seems I just earned Gloria’s complete trust. Nothing more powerful than a woman’s love for their child and all.’

“Don’t worry about it.” I dismissed her worries casually. “You are my woman, after all.” I repeated for her and smirked when I heard her breath hitch a bit.

“Y-Yeah. Anyways, thanks again. I have to go, I’ll call you later.” Gloria said with a bit of an embarrassed voice before she hung up, leaving me chuckling freely.

“Hehe. That woman sure does have her cute sides. I wonder how this will change our relationship going forward?”

With those final thoughts I was about to head to bed before my Agent rang again, and I blinked as I saw that it was Rebecca this time.

“Tsk. She better not need money too.” I muttered in annoyance before I picked up the call.

“Hey, Becca—”

Once more I was interrupted from finishing by a panicking Rebecca.

“Lucius! We need your help! Maine went cyberpsycho, killed Dorio and hurt Kiwi! We’re chasing him right now!” Rebecca exclaimed, sounding a bit out of breath as gunfire was heard in the background.

Blinking at the news, I pulled my glasses off and wiped them before putting them on again to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

‘What the hell? Is this call-Lucius-for-help day or something?’ I thought incredulously for a moment at having had similar calls within minutes of each other.

‘And that idiot finally went off the deep end, huh? He honestly lasted longer than I expected.’ I shrugged a moment later, not really caring one way or another, before finally answering Rebecca.

“Alright, what’s the location?” I asked, inwardly letting out a groan as I got back up from my seat again and headed out.

Rebecca quickly shouted me the location before hanging up as she screamed the name of her brother Pilar in distress.

“Hah. Well, it seems it’s finally time to put the big guy down, as the only way this stops is with his death. I wonder if I can get back the Sandevistan if I’m sneaky? Could use some more eddies. I almost have enough to move into that sweet Glen apartment in Heywood.”

Closing the door behind me, I didn’t bother getting my car and instead started traveling my way since it was much faster.

=====

Several Minutes Later

“You bastard! You killed my brother! I trusted you!”

The enraged shouts of Rebecca greeted me as I finally caught up with what was left of their team as they chased after a berserk Maine who was causing mayhem.

From the looks of things, only Rebecca, Lucy, and Kiwi were all that remained from the group. Not that I knew for sure if that was all their team.

Of the remaining three, only the former two were in fighting shape, with Kiwi bleeding from several places and clearly in rough shape.

Seeing Maine about to kill Lucy with a shot to the back of the head by catching her off guard with the Sandevistan, I jumped in and tackled her to the ground, just reaching her in time.

“Are you alright?” I asked as I quickly got us back to our feet and scanned Lucy for injuries, but saw none.

Lucy looked up at me in complete surprise as she slowly nodded. “…You actually came.” Lucy whispered in disbelief.

“What can I say? I took a small liking to you guys.” I said with a shrug before spotting Rebecca unloading her shotgun at Maine a distance away.

“It’s as bad as it looks, huh?” I asked, adopting a serious expression, causing Lucy to do the same.

“Yeah. After taking out Dorio and injuring Kiwi, Pilar tried to stop him before he was flatlined.” Lucy explained with a bit of a grimace.

“The question now is, can I take him out of his misery?” I asked as I pulled out my trusty modified revolver while Lucy fiddled with her monowire.

“Be my guest. That’s what we’re trying to do right now.” Lucy said with a grunt before looking at me. “So, are we doing this or not?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Heh. You’re not so bad after all, Lucy. I seriously thought you didn’t like me at first with how you always ignored me. Let’s do this.” I muttered with a grin.

“You’re not wrong about that, but it seems you’re not so bad either.” Lucy said with a similar grin. “Now I say we help Rebecca before she gets herself killed. Also, Kiwi needs some medical attention.”

“Right.”

Working in tandem, we quickly caught up with a Rebecca who was still unloading her shotgun like crazy. Lucy used her monowire to wrap up Maine for a bit while I appeared behind him and took out his legs with a couple of shots.

“No hard feelings, Maine.” I shouted, getting Rebecca’s attention as she finally noticed I was here.

“Lucius! You’re finally here! Now help me kill this fucking gonk!” Rebecca shouted before once more unloading her shotgun.

Though this time, with Maine somewhat immobilized, they actually landed.

With most of Maine’s body replaced by cyberware, though, the damage was superficial. So before he could get up again I used a combination of my strength along with my katana to cut off his limbs.

“Graaahh!”

Maine could only scream in rage as he flopped on the ground like a fish while bleeding from his limbs.

“I feel that one of you should do the honors.” I said, turning to Rebecca and Lucy, with the former glaring murderously at Maine and the latter looking at me in surprise.

“…You’re fast.” Lucy muttered in disbelief before she shook it off and turned to Rebecca. “You should do it, Rebecca.”

“With pleasure!” Rebecca declared with a glare as she leveled her shotgun at Maine’s maddened face before hesitating for a moment.

“I really liked the way my life was, you know? Now it’s all ruined.” Rebecca said softly before finally pulling the trigger and ending Maine’s life.

Maine finally stopped flapping helplessly before going still, but just before he died his eyes seemed to clear up of any madness, showing a profound amount of self-loathing.

I stayed silent for a moment before silently letting my hand rest on Rebecca’s shoulder, causing her to silently lean in and hug my side.

“Let’s get Kiwi to a hospital and get out of here.” Lucy said from my other side after a moment.

“…Yeah.” Rebecca answered quietly as her hold on me tightened.

‘Seems their team is all but over going forward, with only three members left.’ I thought silently as we left the area, picking up an injured Kiwi on the way.

=====

A Few Days Later

It took a few days to get Kiwi patched up and to give the others a proper funeral, or as proper as it could get in Night City. But with that done came the aftermath.

Namely that Kiwi, Rebecca, and Lucy had nothing left to do, with Kiwi soon leaving off on her own and leaving just the latter two by themselves.

I was currently out drinking with Lucy and Rebecca at Lizzie’s Bar, but the atmosphere felt somewhat somber, with Rebecca being much quieter than usual as she downed shot after shot.

“This blows!” Rebecca exclaimed as she slammed her 12th empty beer on the table and looked at me with somewhat red cheeks. “What am I supposed to do now? That bitch Kiwi just up and left too.”

“Can you really blame her? We lost all our heavy hitters.” Lucy said calmly while smoking a cigarette on my other side.

“Well, if you’re willing…” I started off, getting their attention as I downed my own shot. “I could definitely use the help of a competent netrunner and a second gun.” I said somewhat leadingly.

Rebecca blinked in confusion before widening her eyes in understanding, then grinned at me and hugged me tightly around the waist with a squeal.

“Really!? You’re the best, choom! I knew there was a reason I liked you other than your amazing cock!” Rebecca yelled happily while breaking out into a laugh.

Patting her head with a smile, I turned to Lucy, who took another drag of her cigarette before letting it out. “I would have normally rejected this on principle since I don’t really know you that much.”

“And regardless of what Rebecca personally thinks of you, I’m not really much of a team player.” Lucy explained calmly while still maintaining her gaze forward.

That is until Rebecca unceremoniously reached over with her hand and slapped her back in a friendly manner, causing her to stumble and drop her cigarette. I hid a smile.

“Stop being such a downer, Lucy! You expect me to believe that a complete loner like you will search for a new team like Kiwi did? Fat chance! So just admit that you are just playing hard to get!” Rebecca exclaimed with a big grin on her face, not caring for the slightly twitching eyebrow of said girl.

“…Haah, whatever.” Lucy, seeing that she wasn’t going to win a conversation with her, just rolled her eyes and took a drink of her own bottle.

“That’s the spirit. Now, enough of this downer mood and let’s party!” Rebecca declared with a laugh as she started chugging even more shots without a care.

“Seems my solo run is finally over.” I muttered with a smile, definitely not minding being in a team with two hot girls, and raised a cup at them.

“To the future!”

“The future!”

=====

Next Morning

Groaning, I slowly opened my eyes, feeling the mother of all headaches despite my slight healing factor, and found myself back at my apartment.

I honestly had no idea how I even got back here. My last memory was of Rebecca, Lucy, and myself drinking enough to kill a regular person before nothing.

Feeling nature’s call, I tried to get up only to find that I couldn’t move both of my arms, and blinked before looking down.

As I did, I met a familiar pair of turquoise and white hair on either side of me.

More important than that was the fact that both of them were completely naked, with their breasts in full display to my greedy eyes and the feeling of the bed sheets being somewhat sticky.

‘Damn it! Did I seriously not remember my first threesome in this world due to being too drunk?’ I thought in genuine despair.

Sooooo..... anyone else not believe the mc giving up the kill and a chance to get a new power? I don't think Maine would have nothing as a borderline borg more so with the sand.
