Comic #978: Coming Home (Patreon)

This is a reference to the newest housing cinematic. As soon as I saw the video I thought of a DLC version where everyone was screaming at each other in a raid. I was originally going to have a bunch of guild characters yelling at each other in a failed raid, until finally one of them was home drinking tea.

I liked the basic idea of that, but I felt like the transition from fighting in a raid to being home didn’t really connect as well as I would like. I thought about doing a more straightforward parody of the comic but with Keydar dying to the mobs at the start, but again, it just didn’t really work for me.

I then thought about someone teleporting home to escape from the raid, and that reminded me of comic #859. As soon as I reread it I realized I wanted Krom still yelling at him outside his window at home.

At first I was a little hesitant to straight rip off my own work, but it fit so nicely I couldn't help it. So I just made sure to make each panel unique and just use the original as a guide. Also, I was always disappointed in that original comic, because the premise ended up being so much better than the punchline. The punchline itself about Zidormi, a Keepers of Time representative, and Keydar using her services to get out of being yelled at turned out to be just a bit too much to land well in a joke. It was also a reference that was a little too obscure for a lot of readers.

So in some ways this was my own selfish way of retrying an old comic.

Also, at the last minute I saw an opportunity to include the ornate soap dispenser from #976. Just a nice subtle reminder that Keydar too is a genocidal maniac.
