Comic #158: Alts (Patreon)

Clearly we were still in the pre-expansion lulls if I'm doing a comic about alts. I don't do a lot of comics with alt's because it's hard to communicate that a character is on an alt without wasting too many panels on needless exposition. Luckily in these early comics I had no qualms about using 11+ panels if necessary (hence the entirety of the first 3 panels).

Obviously Keydar is a warlock and Narya is a rogue, but I have zero recollection about what class Krom was supposed to be. Was I copying a class starter set, or did I just randomly draw something? Quick! Someone go on classic and tell me what starter set that is. He has legs so maybe a warrior? Hunter? No idea.

Man, that voidwalker joke is good. It's better than the actual punchline. I'm tempted to reuse it as a throwaway joke in some future comic. Too bad none of the main players are warlocks.

In hindsight the punchline seems oddly specific, like there's some additional joke in there you're not getting, but really I was just being random. The reason the manual is in portuguese out of all languages was really just that my mom is from Brazil and I could call her to get an accurate translation for "soulstone manual". Keep in mind this was before any kind of reliable translation software. I know enough spanish to have picked that too, but for some reason the manual being in portuguese sounded funnier to me.

I feel like the instruction manual was such a lost opportunity to put in easter eggs, like in all my newspaper comics. I zoomed in on the actual comic file to see what else I might have put in there, but on closer inspection, all I see is numbers and an additional word, "aviso" on the manual, which appears to mean, "Notice".

If I had written this comic today, I would have 100% put in something in portuguese that translated to "Notice: throwing soulstone can result in injury or death". Maybe once bonus panels eventually get to #158 I can finally make this dream come true. With one a week that won't be until 2029. Oof.
