Comic #712: Detour (Patreon)

This was originally going to be in Vale, but I really didn't want to have to draw a new background. So I made it Uldum and reused the background from the last comic. As usual, 70% of my changes are motivated by laziness.

I struggled a bit at first trying to figure out how to show that he had killed a rare in a single panel without any dialogue. The idea of drawing three separate rare corpses was a bit terrifying, so I considered having loot windows or loot popups. In the end I think the silhouettes work pretty well. They stand out clearly from Keydar and the background and they demonstrate a corpse well enough (I hope).

I also originally had a panel right before the final panel where Keydar arrived at the quest NPC, and told him " Sorry, I got a bit side-tracked, what’s the task for the day?" This wasn't my favorite idea, as it felt readers would anticipate the punchline. In the end, just having a daily marker on the minimap and having Keydar make his detour comment communicates the idea well enough.

There's quite a lot of text to read through in the final panel, so hopefully the joke lands for readers.
