This comic is a reference to the Shadowlands Afterlives: Maldraxxus cinematic. I like dragging moments from cinematics into the comics. The heavy melodrama is really fun to parody. I've done a similar thing with Illidan and Velen. In fact, the punchline from this comic is partly a callback to one of my favorites, #597.

When I first drew Draka in the first couple panels, I had made her look to realistic, and I needed to make her over-the-top. So I had to add a bit of crazy with the eyes and the mouth to make her fit better into the comic.

I also liked that this comic was a partial continuation of  #733. It has the same theme too, that our meta analysis of the game must be really frustrating from the hypothetical point of view of an NPC. I also had different dialogue for Keydar in the final panel. Originally he was just saying "Cuz bone spike is the new meta!" I liked this punchline, but I felt it could be interpreted as a negative commentary on upcoming game mechanics. Instead I wanted it to really just feel more positive and silly. So I opted for what you see now.

- Maldraxxus Afterlives short should star Garona Halforcen. - But she's alive! - Well... that's a problem. Who's dead? - How come? There are a lot of deceased characters in WoW canon! - I'm talking about someone who could fit in Garona's place. What about Drakka? - Well, she is a female orc, yes, but she's a proud warrior from Draenor, not a stealthy rogue assassin. In fact, she was murdered by one of those. - Close enough. We'll make it work.
